Did an advanced Strength DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Kelly Coffee Meyer Shape Up DVD.
Have the Green Room today. In a few I need to go to Aldi especially to get the cheese for Monday and also to get some eggs. Then to PetSmart to get some Fancy Feast. Last time my coupons expired before we could use them. We’re going to use the FF anyway, why not get them when you can use a coupon. Then want to stop at AC Moore (they sold to Michaels but I want to see if they have a cookie cutter that I need), then if I have time will run to Target. Update: only made it to Aldi and PetSmart. Will go to Target another day
KJ – would you please repost your recipe for the fudge. After Barbara’s fantastic review of it, I’d like to give it a try. I, also, just can’t seem to make good fudge. Barbara – does it have the consistency (like can you leave it unrefrigerated?) of fudge like you buy in a store? I see, thanks so much for posting the link.
Barbara – the litter box cane doesn’t sound appetizing to you? It’s just cake and tootsie rolls. It’s more the presentation than anything else.
Had the Christmas cards written out. Don’t ask me to explain it, but wrapping for some reason I procrastinate of…sigh. Wish I could get Vince to move it and just let me know what presents we’re getting so I can get them for him. He hasn’t even sent me his list yet. Maybe the reason I procrastinate wrapping is because I want to have everything. Why I don’t wrap a little at a time I don’t know.
SuziQ – we’re not even calling Denise or anything. Actually, I’m trying to get gifts that if she doesn’t come I can return/use myself. Like I probably would get her an Amazon gift card, but if she doesn’t come, we can use it. Not sure what the third present for her would be. I really don’t want to get her a gift certificate to a restaurant. See, we don’t go out very much, she goes out all the time. I was going to get her a gc to Ruby Tuesday since she goes there lots, but we don’t so I’m hesitant to get one. Maybe what I should do is get a cookie jar and put money in it. So if she doesn’t show…more $$ for us.
After the Green Room we put out more decorations. I microwaved some tea and was it ever hot. I really burned my mouth. But in some ways, that’s good. I don’t want to eat. Maybe I should make the cookies…lol
Carol – congrats on the raise!
Breaded the catfish, now have it in the freezer, made an angelfood/pineapple cake for Vince then ginger cookies. That’s all I’ll do tonight.
Rebecca – gorgeous wreath.
Allie – my heart goes out to you and Tom and Elena. I know how difficult this is.

Wouldn't you have the Amazon gift card directly emailed to her? Or delivered to her house in a decorative box?
That's usually what they do.
My family (parents, brother & his family, me & my family) rarely spend Christmas together. The last time it happened was in 2012. And we're scattered all over the place, so these gift cards work very well. We don't even have to mail anything!
Despite our distance, we still all love each other. It's a comfortable sort of thing, knowing that we love, accept and support each other whatever's going on in our lives.

: Today I found out that one of my line dance students is going to stop coming to my class because of her husband's dementia. She is gradually cutting down the places she goes and the times she leaves him alone.
Allie, so sorry about Chester.
One of the kindest things I've done for myself is cut down on the number of places I shop for groceries, pet food, drugs, personal products, and household supplies. It has allowed me so much more time to do the things i really want to do. We buy clothing only to replace something that has worn out and we do that shopping online. We don't buy gifts for birthdays or holidays.

We've bought Amazon gift cards and printed them off ourselves.

That has been one of the things I love about ordering groceries online and having them delivered ... I don't have to go out and do it!!
And now that there's an Amazon in Australia, I might be doing more ordering that way as well. Before there was an Amazon in Australia, I was still able to use Amazon Canada and Amazon USA to order gift cards to be delivered to my family in North America directly. And occasionally I had something delivered to me in Australia, but shipping was a bit prohibitive.
I don't mind shopping, if I can fit it into my lunch hour ... gives me places to walk during my lunch hour ... but I don't like shopping in the evenings and I'm not overly keen on it on the weekends.

Heather: Thank you for your kind words. We’ve invited our niece and her son to have dinner here and enjoy the Christmas Ships parade in our little town. The food is ready and waiting in refrigeration. It will be fine in the refrigerator for two more days. We’ve chosen a party tray with cheeses and veggies, and will also have a tray of chilled shrimp tails. The best part is that this is easy and we’re not stressing about it. We also have decorating to do. :ohwell:
(((Allie))) Having to make the decision to let a veterinarian help an animal out of pain and misery is a kindness, but also difficult & heart wrenching.
Barbie: My heart goes out to your line dance student who needs to care for her husband with dementia.
My daughter sent me a list of books that would be welcome Christmas gifts for her whole family. It was a great thing for her to do. Now I need to go out and buy them. She’s asked me to order from a Portland book store, Powell’s Books. I want to go in in person to choose the books but DH doesn’t want to go. I dread driving in Portland on my own. I have the option of ordering them by phone and having them shipped but I love books and want to see and feel what I’m giving as gifts. Wish me the courage to woman-up and get it done.

Barbara, thank you so much for missing me and asking about me. I’m ok, just incredibly busy with lay servant stuff. It has turned into a full-time job. I’m balancing too many self-help projects right now, too. I’m behind on my Christmas Bible study, my daily Bible Study, my Healthy Free U monthly habit, this thread, and my procrastination study. My parents are requiring a lot more attention as well. The good news is that I got the tree and inside decorations done today, and Daddy is well stocked with three cases of Ensure. I also have made it to the gym for my weight training on Monday and Wednesday and I went up and down 7 flights of stairs on Tuesday when I went to Open House at the Retirement Home where I volunteer. It’s really sad, though, when one procrastinates her procrastination study.
I’m caught up with reading and sending you all the best of wishes.9 -

One of the things we've done a few times is to Skype during a family gathering ... so my parents, aunt, uncle and 3 cousins live in the same general area. They get together some time around Christmas, and my brother and I have Skyped in. They set us up somewhere around the room, almost as though we were there, and we catch up on what's been going on.
I am hoping we'll be able to do something like that this year too. For one thing, I'd like to "meet" my cousin's wife ... they were married in September.

Tomorrow ... I just don't know how it's going to go. Dr appointment in the morning to get measles vax, shingles vax and have punch biopsy on mole. I didn't react to the first measles vax so I hope I don't react to the second. But the rest ... who knows.
I had only the measles vax. My Dr was ill today and wasn't able to do the rest ... but hopefully next Friday.
However, I am now immune to measles, mumps and rubella.

Happy Dewey Decimal System Day!
"December 10, 1851, is the birthday of Melvil Dewey (1851-1931) inventor of the Dewey Decimal system of library classification. As the most widely used library classification system, the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) or Dewey Decimal System has been in use since 1876 ... when American Librarian Melvil Dewey developed and established it. Divided into ten main categories, the numerical system arranges mostly non-fiction publications. ... Found in 135 countries around the world, the DDC has been translated into 30 different languages."
-Yvonne in TXspikeyhair wrote: »YVONNE as a librarian I loved classifying books, using DDC. All gone now the books come ready processed.

I classified my own personal library using the DDC ... as my father also has done. Plus my mother worked in a library for many years too back when they used the DDC.
I think I could, quite happily, be a librarian.I love Christmas music so now I'm looking forward to just enjoying the season a bit.

I enjoy Christmas music as well, and a couple months ago, we bought a stereo. Till then, we had been listening to music off our phones or laptops, but we stayed the weekend in a place that had a small stereo, and I played some music on it, and was surprised by the quality of the music!
So we tracked down that stereo, and then one slightly better but less money, and bought the better, less expensive one ... in fact, the place knocked $30 off the price.
It's very small and wasn't expensive but we've hooked it up to TV, laptops, phones and all, and now we can hear our music in a way we haven't been able to in years. Including our Christmas music now. It's wonderful!
In the evenings (like last evening when I came home late and tired) I turn down the lights so that there's one lamp and all the Christmas lights, and turn on the Christmas music through the new little stereo, and it's lovely.

Only did laundry, prepped veggies and snuck a few ornaments onto the tree yesterday. Darn that red wine! Today before T'ai Chi will try to make maple spiced pecans. After TC will peel and roast sweet potatoes for tonight's pot luck/line dance, and squeeze in some almond grinding and Tumble combing.
allie ((hugs))
Machka sending benign and non-reactive energy your way. While Joe was out with Shadow, I put Handel's Messiah on the turntable (yes!) and really enjoyed listening while trimming the tree.
SuziQ (and KJ and Carol) funny but this is the recipe I have for KJ's adult fudge, with my variationsKJ Kellie's Adult Fudges:SuziQ thanks for your fudge variations, will try next year, on the stove top too. No microwave here! Michele is the Energizer bunny, me I alternate activities with napping days
Here is the fudge recipe I use. I use a semi sweet chocolate chip with the Jack; but some times I make a dark chocolate chip recipe with a cherry whiskey. The cherry is my favorite. Remember to keep it away from kids, as the alcohol is NOT cooked out of it.
Ingredients
3 1/2 cups chocolate chips -KJ used milk chocolate chips, I used half Nestle's CARAMEL (not butterscotch) and half Hershey's Special Dark.
1 cup sweetened condensed milk (see note)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup Jack Daniel's whiskey -I used caramel flavored vodka
Instructions
Line an 8 by 8 inch baking dish with aluminum foil. -I used parchment paper
In a large bowl melt the chocolate chips in the microwave according to package instructions. -I melted chips and sweetened condensed milk together over double boiler
Stir in the sweetened condensed milk, the vanilla extract, and the whiskey. -I added 1/8 tsp salt
Pour the mixture into the baking dish. Cover with aluminum foil and let set completely (about four to eight hours). Refrigerate for 1 hour before slicing. -I didn't cover with foil.
Store in an airtight container for two weeks.
Recipe Notes
Make sure you measure this out. A can from the grocery store is 14 oz and more than you need. Also make sure you are buying sweetened condensed milk and not evaporated milk as they are on the shelf next to each other and that is an easy mistake to make.
My notes: KJ is absolutely right:
-must measure both the chips (for me ended up being 2 x 10 oz bags) and the sweetened condensed milk (about ¼ c left, now what can I do with that???)
-must let fudge set at room temperature for at least four hours, then refrigerate for at least an hour before cutting.
-after it set for an hour, I scattered a very few pieces of margarita salt crystals on the top.
Lanette haven't yet decided about Windows 10 or laptop replacement, but yes, yesterdays lenghty updates, please wait while windows configures, and 3 very slow reboots were scary and yes I updated my backup and disconnected it from the laptop. Forgive my paranoia but could Micro$oft have just installed something that will make our laptops stop working when support for Windows 7 ends? :noway: Your Christmas gift to your self sent chills. Thank you for the inspiration.
Amber around here that's not called “food hoarding”, it's called “disaster prep”
Katla “Raising children is not for the weak hearted “ Amen, sister. All you mothers have my deepest respect. Way outside my range. As for going in to Powells, can you drive to a TriMet station on the outskirts and so avoid the Portland traffic and parking? Win-win
Janetr prayers continue for your daughter and you.
Carol $20 raise ??per year??? :noway:
Lisa the “Thank you for not...” mug.
NYKaren is there a pic of the red-nosed cellists?
Heather hoping your DH feels well enough for Max and Edie's visit.
Beth and Rebecca I admire your Intermittent Fasting, but couldn't do it. Going that long between eating would give me shaky, grumpy, headaches.
Kay whew, you ARE busy! “procrastinating on her procrastination study” only makes sense to me
Gratitude day #28 what small thing happened today: Shadow was outside when her attack of the runs hit. As SuziQ said, not really a small thing...

Today I'm grateful for my friend I am meeting tomorrow for lunch in Portsmouth. I'm going on the train. We have booked a fishy lunch. My friend is one of those I have known since school. Precious.
I'm trying to get the tree finished today, the stairs cleaned and one of the guest beds made. I also want to hang up my big balls. Things have ground to a halt because DH is full of cold and has a bad back. I do not want to nag. I cannot reach the pole where I want to hang the balls.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxxx
