bananasandoranges wrote: »@auntiebk awesome about cleaning and filing. I started with wordy flylady site. She says 15 min per day and changes rooms every week. I had a country house 13 years ago, where I spent all school vacations, that was hard to keep up with. The 15 minute timer sessions helped me loads. If I do it now, it's 15 minutes minium and then 4x 15 minutes in different rooms when I have more time, courage and energy. I then found out that researches often do 4x 25-30 minute timer sessions. I was on a researcher forum once and they were all talking about their timer sessions. They are sometimes called pomidoros after Italian name for tomatos, after old tomato-shaped timers!
Yesterday I did 4x15 in bath, bedroom, living, kitchen and it definitely helps make a dent.
I have major paperwork disaster. anyone have any tips?
It wasn't great before- comes and goes- but when I had those work issues in 2015-2017 I drowned in the papers involved in keeping documentation and never totally got my head out. I have boxes and piles and areas of papers spread out on the floor, and covering many surfaces.
For paperwork:
First do you have a system of how you want to organize them and files to match how you want them. Colored files work great because it can make it easier to find what you need. Can some of what you have be scanned and saved to a thumb drive?
Once you have your plan figure out a part of your day to sort your papers and file them to the system you decided works for you. I would have a shredder and bag to recycle handy to get rid of what you can. Shred anything that has your name and address and any sensitvie info.
Since our file cabinet is in our basement I do my fiing when I do the laundry. We have an old maytag and I like to be there when it goes through it cylces plus I like to add vinegar during the last rinse, so the time it takes to do a load is just about the right amount of time to do my paperwork. I also try to take that time to clean out a couple of old files and shred sensitive paperwork if needed.
I don't have as much paperwork as I used to because of computers.

I hate New Year's Eve. My sweet rescue dog, Bessie, is terrified of loud noises, and people were setting off fireworks from about 7 PM to 3 AM. I was awake with her, cuddling her, and playing music most of that time. Eventually we were both able to fall asleep and slept later than usual.8

@margaretturk thank you I do have a system. I have 2 3 drawer filing cabinets. 4 drawers are full and 2 are eating to be. I am just so behind in it. Scanning seems like it would take longer as I'd have to scan everything and have several backups. I've had external hard disks and flash drives go bad many many times. It seems very unsecure to put data on the cloud. maybe I need a faster scanner. I've got thousands of pages so the idea of scanning and filing them all seems enormous. I'm not on top of digital filing either but I usually find stuff by entering it's name or recalling the approximate date...3

I fell asleep before midnight. usually I would have been woken up with partying at midnight but I think with the transport strikes there are less parties this year.2

To anyone who wants to answer:
What is your daily calorie goal?
Do you aim for an average (weekly)? (how do you plan fluctuation? - occasional splurges- by putting lower goal or by averaging out over week...)
What is your macro ratio ?
My daily calorie goal is 1200.
I eat almost exactly the same thing every day and seek to be as active as possible;
Because I eat almost exactly the same thing every day, I know that I'll have lots of protein with many vegetables, and fairly low sodium. I don't pay attention to the other macros.
I'd set my calorie goal lower, but MFP won't let me so I work with the system. Because I exercise so much I need more calories than I would if I were sedentary.

@Machka9 I took your suggestion and stopped by a small supermarket that is open. got dijon mustard, small red endives (yummy), bubbly water, no-sugar iced tea, and veggie bullion cubes for low cal options. the endives are nice because I had never had or even heard of these mini red endives before. I had a salad with red mini endives red pepper, 1 tsp olive oil, 1 T vinaigrette, chopped garlic, salt pepper, curry powder (in vinaigrette), and then frozen pureed broccoli with 1/2 cube of veggie bouillon to change up the flavour. bouillon cube is meh, and gives it a generic overly salty covering flavour. I prefer my own flavourings. but it's interesting to try. I'll use an itsty bit next time.
moved my bed and some other stuff around.4 -
Started to get the decorations down and change the theme to 'Early Spring'. I have pastel multicolored ball lights and vases of artificial snowdrops and white helibores.
Still haven't dismantled the tree. But I'm getting there. Feels good.

Barbie: Thank you for the new thread!!!
Rori: “Stay well, friends. May every blessing you can envision for your family and yourselves rain down on you in 2020. I carry you in my heart and look forward to many more stories, photos, laughs and tears together.” Thank you for the encouraging thoughts. You are in my heart as well.
Machka: Your first bike ride of the year is a great way to celebrate New Year’s Day. WTG!!!
Bananas: DH was put on a gluten free fodmap diet and I have been eating mostly the same things he is eating. Some of the gluten free breads are much higher in calories so I leave them to him. I eat regular bread. I have noticed that my overall calorie load is higher than is good for me and I am up a bit. It is time to take care of my health and get the extra pounds back off.
Carol in GA: Congrats on your weight loss.
Michele: We have a lovely Christmas tree with wonderful photos of our grandchildren and our son’s new home under it. These are our favorite gifts and we're thrilled with this. We hope to get a few needed things during the end of year sales. I need some new clothes. I want the hot tap on my kitchen sink replaced. The lever for turning it on broke. In general we need to get rid of stuff, rather than add more to it.
I almost forgot—This is New Year's Day. I plan to spend it watching the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl. The Oregon Ducks are playing. Go Ducks! Happy New Year! I hope it will be a good year for each of us, and our countries as well.

happy new year to you all. I trust you had a great time or non-eventful one. I worked til 3, we closed early. because I don't chit chat the much on here, I don't think I've told you. I'M FINALLY off of the phones at work. I answer the emails that come in and disburse them to the departments that they should go to. I also do and monitor the auto deposit and auto withdrawal requests that we do and process all the Verification of Mortgage requests that come in (I had that, they took that away from me for a bit, now I got it back again). any who I am in heaven.. I can drown everyone out and put my headphones on and go to town. we'll c how long that lasts tho. they fired another boss and we have another new one.
AS OF TODAY, I HAVE 517 MORE DAYS TIL RETIREMENT!!!!!!!!! this will be our last full year living in Washington state b4 moving back to California.
I am off work today, Kirby is working. he cancelled his gym membership since he doesn't go nearly as often as I do. on his days off, he is taking yogi for a walk or run instead to start to get into a new habit for himself. we don't think we will be joining a gym club when we retire. we'll stay active on our own.
Yogi is doing amazingly good as a single pet in the home. he hasn't acted out by destroying anything. one awesome thing is that he didn't touch the Christmas tree or any of the decorations on it, whew! another amazing thing is that he didn't seem to care about the fireworks at all last night which was a relief.
we are starting to pay attention to getting rid of stuff slowly but surely. posted some stuff on let go and offer up, nothing big. when we get back to California Kirby wants to get an apartment, not move into the airstream :0( the way he had 1st talked about. the places we've looked at aren't nice enough for him, not luxurious enough. I had reached out to my late husbands brother about a trunk that I had of Lenny's and I asked him if he would like it. he hadn't responded awhile back. I reached out to his mother and she said that he was in France for work and said if he didn't reply when he came back she would take it. I waited and waited and no answer. I was getting asked by Kirby if I had heard back, so I reached out to both of them at the same time via instant messenger and I told them that a year has passed and this one will be by b4 u know it and I needed to know what to do. I couldn't bring myself to toss it, I just couldn't and I needed their guidance. I was in tears cuz it was tearing me up. she responded that she would take it and I could ship it and she would pay be back via pay pal. I WAS BAWLING I was so relieved. Kirby said since we're moving down there (she's in red bluff CA) we could drive it by and drop it off on our way down if that was ok. she appreciated and was forever grateful to me for loving her son, I was so thankful to her for lifting that weight off my shoulders. she she asked, Kirby said we should be dropping it off by April sometime 2021.
I've been growing out my hair again and it's driving me ballistic ! it's not as short as my profile pic anymore. without Kirby asking, I know he kinda likes my hair a bit longer, so I'll do this as much as I can stand it, we'll c how long it gets.
now that we have one pet. we lifted up the passenger seats and we put yogi in the back seat now so he will b closer. bought a weather tec seat cover and mat for the back seat. gonna go clean the seats now, put them on, then may change, go to the gym and then see what else I'm gonna do.
this will probably be my biggest post for the year... lmao

Pip! ... Wow! I've never seen you post so much. Yay for the retirement countdown and being able to honor Lenny's things.
Barbie ... thank you for leading us into the new year!
Lanette ... welcome to the light ... I love IF and see it as a sustainable lifestyle!
Allie ... I'm right there with you needing to get back to doing what I know works. Even though I maintained my fasting periods, I ate willy nilly as well through the holidays. The amount of sugar I consumed is not good for anyone on any plan and I put on 8 pounds!! Mostly water weight I know ... but still...
Rebecca ... thinking of you and hoping that you find Owain well ....
Katla ... do you bake gluten free items that are suitable to your FODMAP diet? I came across a woman who follows FODMAP and also had a recipe for items like lemon pound cake. I'll find the link if you're interested.
Happy New Year!
Last year my word was "commitment" and I can say that I was committed to the endeavors I chose to focus on. At the beginning of 2019 I made the comment that I had done nothing weight-wise in all of 2018. This year I can say that I am entering 2020 healthier and lighter (25 lbs released and then 8 snuck back in at the end)! I committed to adding variety to my diet (think produce boxes), journaling my 19:5 IF experience and developing a daily prayer/devotional time (started in October, but have been consistent since then). I did not keep up with decluttering so that will be part of 2020.
This year my word will be "consistent"* * Edited. I think a better word will be "steadfast." as I want to continue with the commitments that have been positive. I made a list of 20 goals for 2020 and they encompass a variety of health and wellness goals that are meant to enrich my life. They include continuing with IF, prayer/devotional time, decluttering 15 minutes, conquering filing cabinet once and for all, reestablishing exercise routine, making a will (we don't have one!!), inviting guests to our home, taking my disabled son on at least one outing monthly, and so on.
And, of course, I want to be lighter entering 2021!
May 2020 be a year of good health and blessings to all of you!

Happy New Year my dear friends. Today is my 1500 day of logging in, I messed up my streak when in the hospital for knee replacement surgery or it would be about 3-4 months longer.
I've skimmed most days and appreciate your thoughts of me. I'm still struggling with debilitating fear that my oldest daughter is in a very scary downward spiral. On Dec. 19th I had the sheriff of her county in Colorado out looking for her as she had taken her dogs to her ex's house and told him to take them to the pound, turned off her phone no one could locate her and I was in full panic mode. The sheriff did locate her and she was very depressed but ok. As of last night she had decided to move back here to OK, who knows that may change by today.
I had cried and walked the floor all day long over my daughter but the 19th was also the wedding day of Jack's oldest grandson so late afternoon when daughter was located and I sobbed in relief I told Jack I'd not be able to go with him to the wedding. About an hour before time to leave I thought no way I am stronger than this, I went and got my makeup on, put on my pretty dress and accessories and walked down the aisle on the arm of a groomsman looking like a 100 year old hag, BUT I WAS THERE. Jacks ex had been uninvited to the wedding as part of the on-going family division, she and her current boyfriend showed up and Jack's oldest son, father of the groom, had to ask her to leave. She did not go easily. Thankfully that took place before Jack and I arrived.
Then on the 23rd of December my 22 year old grandson, here in Oklahoma, found his Dad (father to three of my grandchildren) dead in his bead. His Dad didn't pick Trevor up for work and didn't answer his phone so Trevor went to the house and discovered him. Some of you may recall that my daughters were married to brothers (oldest divorced 10 years ago) so he was also my other son-in-law's brother. His memorial service is Saturday so I will have at least 6 people staying here over the weekend.
I have worked this week on taking down trees and decorations but I need Jack's help with the large tree so it may still be up over the weekend. No big deal.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and good thoughts.

Happy New Year, I've enjoyed reading all your posts this morning and looking for motivation in 2020. Been on and off MFP for a few years, the 'off' part typically happens after about half-way to goal weight and I get a bit too comfortable with my progress! I actually enjoy healthy eating, but struggle to get to the gym, I enjoy the outdoors but find excuses re that too. I'll be 51 in two weeks, and want to get healthier to enjoy these next few decades with my family (DH is a super-fit trail runner and rock climber) I struggled to do few ski runs a few weeks ago.

Pip ~ Enjoyed reading your post. I am so glad you got off the phones and into a position that better suits you. Fingers crossed they will keep you there. I retired at 58 and really didn't like to leave my job. But it all has worked out for the very best.
Janet OK ~ So glad you checked in. You have been through so much...continue prayers for you and your daughter.
Karen VA ~ Happy to see that little Olivia is feeling better.
I don't have any goals for this new year...just glad the good Lord is with us in all we do and go through. As I said in November, my word for this year is COMPASSION!

Pg 2 done. Creating goal list for 2020 right now. Will post when finished.
Happy New Year ladies!

My chosen word for 2020 is "constant", according to Miriam Webster's definition it means "marked by firm steadfast resolution or faithfulness". To me this is steadfast faithfulness in my God, myself and my husband, my children and family. This includes constant in my choice to living a healthy life style. I have finally learned that "dieting" does not work "goals" do not work. Once we attain the desired weight, meet the required task or goals we tend to sit back and say good for me I'm done. More often than not the leads to regain of weight and slacking on what's most important to us. I tell everyone I've lost 1500 pounds in my life time and they are shocked. But in the first 63 years of my life I yo-yo dieted and literally lost the pounds over and over ending up heavier each time. Thanks to the group here and our leader, Barbie, I began to understand it as a lifestyle, not a temporary goal or a quick fix.
Love you my friends and so very glad I found this group three and a half years ago.
