Thanks @Elise4270 and there are some pretty impressive targets there. I'll sort mine later today once I have my run and see how the recovery is feeling.
Happy New Year to you all!!!!3 -
Happy New Year’s, folks! I did not make it to midnight...2
-
10 days off for christmas due to sickness, back knack and 'makes drinky drinky motion'.
Jan Goal:
1. 130km
2. 10 miles
3. 17runs
4. Help someone start C25K.
5. Strength training 3times a week6 -
Heh according to Garmin, y'all sleep way to much and do not run nearly enough! (Joking...)
6 -
1-1 8k slow + resistance bands
January Total: 8k
January Goal: 135k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Run the Year Team: Pavement Pounders
Partly cloudy, breezy, and upper 20s F today. Footing was bad on the side roads, so ran the main road instead.
Last year was an up and down year. I was fortunate to only have some minor injuries that reduced my running.
The major culprit was I began losing the race with my fork (again).
I'm most proud of my spouse. She cracked the 100 pound mark in her weight loss journey, and participated in the 1 mile fun run/walk at every one of my 5ks. I am so fortunate to have her as inspiration.
If you were to ask her about me, however, I suspect you might find out she could easily join the Orange Jumpsuit Battalion.
The Twelve Runs of Christmas
On the sixth run of Christmas, my workout gave to me:
Six frozen fingers;
Five trillion snowflakes;
Four wind gusts;
Three calf cramps;
Two frozen ponds;
And a small niggle in my left knee.

Good morning!
Happy New Year!
My Jan training schedule has me running 114 miles. I’m in for that.
The Run the Year Challenge is quite a bit lofty. i said I’d run 1300 miles in 2020. That’s just over a marathon a week. AS LONG AS I keep running, I should be able to do it.
Other goals for 2020 - keep running. Marathon in April. Maybe a half or two later in the year.
INCREASE the distance that I can run without stopping, methodically and consistently.
More running shoes 😂
Cross train more consistently.
I had a dream last night that I was being arrogant and competing with someone about all the kinds of pushups and planks I can do. Kind of embarrassing.
Continue to build my life on God’s plan for me - continue to lead my kids to Jesus. Focus on wholeness, not perfection.
You know, simple things. 😉7 -

Where is this amazing woman? Tell her congratulations! And any advice for the rest of us?1 -
@Tramboman WOW! Your wife is amazing! Glad she is behind you (or ahead of you) 100%. That should help in your journey.0

0101-10k total-10k goal-140k
Opening the year with a tempo run. Pace-wise, it was probably my best tempo run in, like, forever. My HR was high but manageable, I didn't feel out of breath at any time, and pace was up there with some of my PRs. I ran it as a build-up: 3km long warm up + 3km MP + 2km HMP + 1km 10k pace, followed by cooldown.
One weird thing that happened during the run though, I was getting extremely drowsy, to the point that I would run five or six strides with my eyes closed, wake up for a few seconds, and close them again. It got slightly better during the faster part, but the moment I hit the cooldown I was falling asleep again. Anyone ever experienced anything like that? Any idea why?7 -

I’ve only been that tired after the duathalon. Over-training perhaps? Cold coming on? Prolonged calorie deficit?0 -

You need a nap?
Or possibly you were not getting enough air? Was the air quality poor?

@PastorVincent @Elise4270 @quilteryoyo I'll pass along your kind remarks.
She is a Weight Watchers woman.
P.S. This earned me a kiss!!!11 -
Well i just spent way too long reading everything there is to know about shoes.
I couldn’t take it anymore and just ordered another pair of Salomon xr missions because I have them and absolutely love them.
I think it will be a good idea to find a good pair of road running shoes for overpronation but EVERY SINGLE MANUFACTURER has a lot of great reasons why their shoe is the best. How the heck am I supposed to know for sure?!?
Anyway- new shoes, yay! $76 but if you count back in the $40 i am owed and will receive from a friend then I only spent $36.5 -

Because they all are the best for someone. You need to try different shoes and styles until you find the one that works for your foot. Shoes are very personal in choice. What works great for one person is horrid for another. Experimentation is really the only way to know. That is why you shop at places like Runners Warehouse where they have a great return policy, or even better, a local to you store with the same.

@Camaramandy648 if you have a local running store, try on every model they have, take the two or three most comfortable models and go for a short test run on their treadmill. By then you'll know your favorite.3 -

Just so that we are clear...
Walking is when you move forward, or backward, but one foot always stays on the ground. There is no point in which two feet are in the air. If two feet are in the air at any point in your stride, then you are running. Speed is not part of the definition.
Jogging is when you find a dead body on your run. You hopefully will be able to avoid that. Forever.14 -

I’d recommend being fitted at a running store. I had been fitted with ASICS years ago when I had tried to be a runner. When I started running again I stuck with my trusty ASICS and had good results. I ordered a similar shoe if the same brand on Amazon when my knee started hurting and it resolved nicely. However they were trail running shoes and I was running on roads. All was fine but a few months later as my mileage increased I started to have hip problems. I went to Fleet Feet and was fitted. The sales clerk asked if I had brand preferences and I told him if my previous ASICS fitting and that I was open to other brands. He asked about where I ran, distances, what types of problems I was having. He wanted to see the bottoms of my previous shoes to see the wear pattern but I didn’t have them with me. They had me stand in a computer platform that analyzed my feet and ankles etc. The ASICS he brought out to fit me felt great. But the Saucony ISO Ride he brought out cushioned my heel in a way that the ASICS never had. For the first time ever, my skinny heels weren’t slipping in a shoe. Then the Brooks Ghosts also felt great in my heels. A week after running in my new Saucony shoes my hip pain resolved. If you have a Fleet Feet or other running store near you it’s worth a visit. Your pain might not be from worn out shoes but from increased mileage in the wrong shoe for you.

@noblsheep Didn't you recently change your diet? A carb adjustment? I'd bet that's why. Might trick your brain next time by a small amount of sugar. Stan (the original creator of this thread) suggested a swish of Gatorade and spit to convince the brain to let go of more carbs. Although, you may need a few more carbs as you adapt to the changes you've made.
regarding shoes. I'm not running and bought some today. does it count that my running shoes are for lab clinical's? I did get about 24 bucks off, but they were still over 100. No steal for me this time. Dh promised he'd walk with me today. He hates walking with me. I'm slow and limpy. So, I may try to get on the bike (trainer in the house, with the fire going and Netflix on). Perhaps DH will bring home pizza too. hahaha!
ETA @T1DCarnivoreRunner Congrats on the AG!!!!! sorry, you missed the medal. I'd email and absolutely beg for it to be mailed. include a sad/human experience about overcoming/managing T1D and how their race gave you the will to live or something...7
