4 pages behind already and it is only the 1st!!!! You crazy lot 🤣
After a month of annoyance in January I just want to get back to running and not shuffling like I have been for weeks. The target 191 miles including 50 brisk walking and an additional 143 miles on the bike. If I can let go of the fact I am over 100 miles behind my training plan and stop trying to make up for what I missed then I can do this and hopefully stop picking up niggles!!! I have two halves in Feb as part of the plan and cannot afford to miss more miles.
Feb started poorly. A couple of days of disorganised chaos, ended up driving to work when I was supposed to be WFH yesterday to fix someone's mistake which meant nobody was getting paid, and then I was apparently the only person in an office of 30 people who could go to London today for a careers con - send the Finance guy when we have 20+ sales people! Sat on my butt in the car for nearly 5 hours so will get out tomorrow for a proper run 😊
Really looking forward to your marathon @LoveyChar - show us how it's done!!!
Have a good run tomorrow @shanaber
Hopefully you mend quickly @RunsOnEspresso

Well Howdy Folks! It's good to be back. Week1,Day1 of recovery for 2020.
Did 17x walk(3min)/run(1min) intervals. Absolutely no pain. This is how running ought to feel like, right? Perfect weather for it too, 59F with 7mph wind. Feels soooooo good to be back doing something again. Have gained over 5lbs during these last couple months of little to no running.13 -

The trails are going to be a mess for my 5k and kids shorter races My transportation is leaving me after the kids are done. I'm gonna take an umbrella and a change of clothes because I'll be standing around before the race, and 5k to run/hike/crawl to get to the bus stop afterwards. Oh and get home, shower, and go back outside for an 2-hour event with work.
BUT the thing I'm excited about... Maybe no one will show up and my son & I can move up in the standings!!!!!!!!!!!
Haha, so there was low-average attendance today. It had stopped raining, and the mud wasn't as bad as expected. I got past a few people going through it, but my shoes weren't even that dirty. I'm sort of disappointed, actually.
Quick recap: I was happy with my effort level and got about the same results as last time, so it was hard but good. Kids did about the same as before, too, but son got passed close to finish line and was a little disappointed. I felt it was good for him, maybe I'm a mean mama, but sports is a good place to learn life lessons.8 -
RunsOnEspresso wrote: »Opened February with 4.8 miles and my very first trail run casualty. I let a mountain biker pass us (because duh) but the dog likes to chase mountain bikers. So I'm prepared as she takes off but then she loses sight of him and slows down. I was trying to grab the top loop on her leash to control her a bit more, she sees him again and takes off. This time I wasn't quite ready and there was lots of loose rock. I went down. Have a cut on my right palm, a bruise forming on my left knee (painful at that) and a scraped up right knee. My UA capris also have a hole in the right knee now. Photos on my instagram story. I can't post a link but same user name with _ between each word.
Hope you're alright *Hugs*
I ran a good bit today near a guy with a dog, and was really impressed with how well the dog was doing, following commands to move over, staying right in front of his owner but not pulling him along. He definitely seemed used to running.1 -

Quite a successful run today! Total of 12 miles! My RTY tracker isn’t syncing now, though I did manage to fix my watch’s syncing problem.
The miles I ran inside were challenging but I felt stronger today and more focused. After that i did the usual weight routine.
Before everything i went to the running store by my house and got the mizuno wave inspires, which were the first real REAL running shoes I ever had. I forgot how comfortable they are! They had me try Hokas, ASICS gel kayano, new balance, and Mizunos. The mizunos were by far the most comfortable so that’s what I walked out with. Small problem. Mile 2 on the dreadmill and my ankle started hurting. “No problem, just new shoes,” I thought. Plus I slept weird and my hip hurt when I woke up so I couldn’t bear to credit the ankle pain to the shoes I just bought.
Finished in the gym and headed out to the trail. While it was still quite challenging, I felt great for the majority of the run, except my ankle never stopped hurting. I am an idiot so I kept going. Normally, I complain about how I struggle to run more than a few minutes outside before I stop but today, I was so sick of that. I decided that if I must walk, I’d structure those intervals instead of waiting until i feel like running. That’d force me to push myself a little more. For every two minutes of walking, I ran five. Some running intervals I felt great so kept going until I felt awful and then allowed myself three minutes of walking. I kept that routine for over seven miles and finished much faster and feeling much better today. Quickest pace was just over twelve and a half minutes. Not too bad considering all the walking. Worst pace was fourteen minutes. I’m not worried about that - the goal was to stay structured today.
I’ve decided to give the new shoes a couple more runs and if my ankle hurts again I’ll know it’s the shoes. Ankle doesn’t hurt at all now that I’m home and shoes are off so I’m thinking I see a shoe exchange in my future.9 -

Yay! Well done!
Hope you get your ankle figured out soon.

@runsonespresso - no falling ok, NO Falling! No repeat of the broken leg! Seriously I hope you are not too sore and that you heal quickly!
@scott6255 - It is great to see you back here and back running!
@avidkeo - can you do something to get the missed runs to sync from strata over to Running Heros? I have problems with Strava automatically syncing sometimes but I can manually tell it to sync and that usually works.
@polskagirl01 - I had to laugh that it wasn't muddy enough!
When I run with Hobbes he runs slightly in front of me or right at my side and being able to give him commands (right, left, with me, leave it, etc.) is essential. I also think when you run for a while with your pup they do get in tune with you. Sometimes he anticipates what he thinks I am going to do and gets it wrong but most of the time he is right on.
@Camaramandy648 - My runs aren't syncing to RTY either. I was going to try some things with the app to see if it would start working again.2 -
@PastorVincent i am currently figuring out my ankle by getting a pedicure hahahahaha
@shanaber I’m glad I’m not the only one! This is the first problem I’ve had with it!2 -

This is an excellent plan!

I went to Parkrun this morning and had a great time visiting with friends. The run felt good, too. I kept myself at an easy pace. Still no spoedwork for me in February. It also turned out to be a beautiful day with plenty of sunshine.5

@RunsOnEspresso Hope your injuries aren't too bad! Dogs can be so strong when they unexpectedly take off.0
-
@RunsOnEspresso i recently tore the muscles in my shoulder because Buzz (malamute) took off. I had to get muscle relaxers for that - i initially thought it was much worse- the pain was so bad!
Today after my run, I was walking him and he saw a cat that I didn’t see so I was unprepared. He took right off - i went bounding forward almost completely airborn but caught myself on my left heel. It was SUCH a shock!
I hope you are okay!2 -

@TheMrWobbly you remind me of me! Especially with the work stuff! I am “the finance guy,” too. My background is accounting but I left my last job because I felt that it didn’t play to my strengths. It was a basic accounting position - journal entries, reviewing accounts, paying bills, filing taxes, fixing mistakes. I was so bored! I came to my present job because they said I’d have to wear a lot of hats and do lots of different things. Plus, I’m not expected to sit still and do the same things all day every day. I still do mostly cost accounting - it’s my primary task, but I ALSO get to be HR, Safety, Trainer, Big Sister, A Living Calendar, Life Coach, Accountability Coach, Moral Police Officer (haha). Further, I am The Fixer. Any time there’s a problem, it doesn’t matter who’s ACTUALLY responsible- I am the one to fix it.
So I get it. January was really intense and not good for us either and I JUST want to get back to running consistently, according to the plan.
Here’s to a better February for both of us!
And @LoveyChar i CANNOT WAIT to hear about your marathon!2 -
February 16th - marathon, then taper down afterwards on a short month so goal set at 80 miles.
@LoveyChar it is getting SO CLOSE! How are you feeling? I am so excited for you!!!!!! I want to know EVERYTHING about how it goes for you!1 -
@PastorVincent I was catching up on the January thread as I was off a couple of days
- thank you for asking about my hand! It is much better now - i have two blisters and some burn marks but it doesn’t hurt anymore. I forgot about the blisters til I grabbed something today and I felt the sting and remembered.
I got 100 miles for January - it was a rough month - i don’t think I got to run during the week almost at all because of the immediate needs of my kids, putting my dog down, the anniversary of my mom’s death, adopting the new dog (I’m still in love with him), dealing with my son’s stuff, tons of weird aches and pains and near actual injuries, and my coworker quitting and only giving us three days notice (she came here from Florida for her husband’s job and a year later, after ten years of marriage, he doesn’t want to be married anymore- who can blame her for leaving in a hurry).
But STILL! 100 miles! I never ever ever in my life thought I would run 100 miles in a month! And this was without giving it my all or even focusing!
I’m hoping February will be much smoother and more organized. I am hopeful8 -
Haven’t read the thread yet, going to go back and catch up.
No mileage goal for February. My goal is to finish the final two races of the Winter off-road series without injury. Last year I did better than I ever expected to, then promptly broke down and was sidelined for four months. I have no ACL in one knee and a bad Achilles’ tendon, and jumping up and down roots plus running down and up hills are some of the hardest things on my legs, so I plan to be very careful, cut back leading up to the races, and even walk if I have to. Staying uninjured is more important than doing well!
That said, I expect to get about fifty miles.8 -
Well January was a bust for me, I only ran 106 of my targeted 160km. My excuses include summer holidays and a still niggling Achilles. The Achilles is improving slowly but steadily, and I really did need a decent break from running so things are pretty good.
February is here and it's stinking hot and super muggy. At my running club this morning everyone was complaining of severely impacted running speeds because of the weather. I had to really work to maintain my pace today, even though it was a good 15 seconds or more slower than our usual pace. Oh well, it's summer, so I'll take it.
I also realised just a few minutes ago that my next half, which I thought was in two week's time, is next Sunday. I'm not expecting anything great from it. I just hope to complete it pain free and in a respectable time.
On the up side, I also just booked my flights to Australia and entry into the Great Ocean Road Half in May. Girls' trip!!!
Bonus good news, school's back tomorrow. Hooray!

2nd Feb and im already so far behind! Story of my life at the moment. I should have started half marathon training last month for an event in May, but after starting January with another bout of pneumonia i am still struggling with walking at normal speed and feel pretty rubbish. I am checking in as promise to myself that things are going to improve. I really dont know at the moment if i will make that event (I was never aiming for fast, just faster than last years 3 hours) but if its ok i will be checking in cheering you on, and hopefully shouting loudly when i run my first couple of miles. You are all awesome!10

Yuck on the weather.
15 SECONDS? I would be ecstatic! I lose MINUTES off my pace in Summer. I just stop tracking pace at all till fall usually.
