My son and Athena. She uses his beard as a lovey!💖
I told him he's a good dad.💖

PS I spoiled my eldest making a small pork roast for his slices of pork in the ramen I made. I cut the roast in half after I browned it so husband could have his barbecued pork with hot Chinese mustard. I had cubed chicken with super spinach, ranch dressing on avocado toast. Oh and then a cherry turnover.Aaack! But I was still under my calories. Just overdid sugar and carbs.😟
I am up 3 lbs. Life happens.

There is a new churro and ice cream place that opened, and I just could not get it off my mind. So I had churros and ice cream for lunch..no more snacks and a really light dinner, and now I can move on.

SuziQ -- I am so sorry about your husband. I must admit that I was a little bit afraid when my husband got home last night (he was in another city working all week), that he was going to be a mess, not just emotionally, but also with his health. But he has been remarkably calm. We do need to go to the house and finish cleaning it out. But I can't go until the first of April. He can't do it without me, because, honestly, I have done most of the work that has been done. He just can't do it. So I hope we can have until April.
Machka -- We could talk to an attorney, but I don't think they can do anything. Before she died, my husband had talked to a couple attorneys, and one of them said his mother was in the same situation. He basically walked away, told the state to do their thing. They auctioned off the house, and I assume the valuable effects, and at the end of the day, sent him a small check.
I think we will be talking to the boys very soon. My husband has accepted this as inevitable, so we need to be making a plan for their living arrangements.
Thank you all for listening, offering support, and sharing advice/stories. It has helped a lot.

Machka – I may have not spent last weekend working on a term paper/exam but remember many a weekend and many nights either cramming for an exam or researching a term paper while I worked full-time. It took me way too many years to get my Associate’s degree so when I finally decided to work upon my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees I went back full time at nights and weekends for both. I completed each one in 16 months. I will say it is something I have never regretted. Keep up the fine work. Sorry about your arm. That’s a lot of stairs – keep up the great work!
SuziQ - SFL
I was able to do that for both my Bachelor degrees (3-yr & 4-yr), my Engineering Tech certificate (1-yr), and my Business Admin diploma (1-yr). However, my Software Development certificate (1-yr) I did in 4 years, one class at a time. And this Master's (2-yr) I will hopefully complete in 5.5 years ... I've really picked up the pace in the last couple years because the original estimate was 8 years. I started in February 2015, Semester 1.
I would have loved to do the Master's in 2 years like most of my other classmates, or slightly less if I did some summer courses, but I've needed to work full time. It was one of those things I've imagined ... "If I won a million dollars in a lottery, what would I do?" And right at the top of the list was quit work and finish my Master's.
Oh, and they don't do evening and weekend courses here. I asked about that and was told that instructors don't work evenings and weekends!! They've only recently started including summer courses. I took my first summer course in January 2018. Before that, they didn't have much available and when I asked, I got the same response as about the evenings and weekends ... instructors don't work in the summer. However, over the years, I think I wasn't the only one asking about summer courses and so we finally have some.
That said, the course I'm in now, writing the exam paper for, is in the Marine Department not IT. So sometimes we have to look to other departments.
Almost done this course ... and in about 10 days I start my last (I hope) Semester 1 of this degree.

Just got back. Boy, I used to like going shopping, but now there really isn’t much at all at the mall.
We went to IHOP for dinner. I had the 3 egg white veggie omelet and put edamame and tomatoes (I wanted to finish them up) on the plate. They gave fruit with it so I had that for dessert. Only water and then tea (nothing added) to drink.
Kylia – good job at the restaurant!
Vince said we need to leave around 9 tomorrow so maybe I’ll have time to do a DVD in the condo. Probably some yoga or pilates
SuziQ – aren’t you in Broward county? My friend from college lives there, as a matter of fact, her girls went to Parkland. About the hair – the only problem with having my hair professionally colored to my color is that I’m not sure what my color is….lol I really like “this is us” and I watch “A million little things” but sometimes I have a problem with that show. I’m so so sorry about your husband
Pip – congrats on the vehicle
Welcome everyone new! Be sure to bookmark this site and come back often
Need to take a shower now.
Michele who has to remember to take her phone tomorrow to take pictures

SuziQ The story of your husband dying in his mother's house is tragic. I am so, so sorry. And I'm so mad about your promotion. Same thing happened to my partner. They cheated her on her raise by delaying her promotion, combining it with an annual review, and not giving her the pay raise she deserved. A$$ho1es.
Flea Sorry for your boys. Hopefully they already suspect, so it won't be a total surprise. It does kind of irk me that Medicaid does this. As a taxpayer, I would prefer that the federal government handle recovery of Medicaid dollars more humanely, both communication & collection. There are many ridiculous pork barrel projects that waste my tax dollars. Treating the recipients of Medicaid (and their families) with compassion and dignity would be a far better use of my money.
Pip Nice New Beast.
Athena and her dad are adorable.
Heather "The French say 'Reculer pour mieux sauter.' Draw back to jump better!" - love this! I plan to pass it along to my granddaughter. Tomorrow is the last day of her district meet. I have to miss the last day because I will be working. Enjoy your time with Edie!
Lanette I don't think anyone in my family has diverticulosis, although it wasn't a topic of conversation at family reunions. It's a mystery. Annoying.
Katla By now, you have figured out that it was Irish Terri, not me, that posted the map of the UK.
Hugs to all.

Matchka: Thank you for reminding me about carbon insoles. They have been inserted in my most of my shoes for years, and worked wonders for a case of plantar fasciitis. The break is on the bones on the outside of my foot, which is actually the fifth metatarsal (baby toe). The insoles, hard soled shoes, and orthopedic boot all work to help with healing. I just have tendency to overdue activities too soon, so keep re-injuring the delicate area. 😣Eventually, I will learn.
Katla: I am tickled to hear about your cat on a leash at your wedding. That is just so cool. Any pictures you can share?
Kate: My heart goes out to your brother. I hope his kids step up to provide respite and support to him. Until the day you can talk with him, send over a couple of lines of encouragement. I so appreciate it when friends and family let me know I am doing a good job, or just remind me to 'stay strong'. Hugs.
DH was agreeable to going to an afternoon movie. We saw Ford vs. Ferrari. I'm not sure he followed the story, but he could definitely enjoy the racing scenes. At one point, there was a surfboard shop in the background. DH worked in that shop when he was in his teens. 😎
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Good evening everyone. Today was my weekly weigh in and I have stayed the same since Feb.1, the scale hasn't moved. Well, I made it thru the week. Friday was no different than Sat. My son & wife has seen all of their nonsense and said nothing scares them. I told them I was ready to walk. TV is not going to be on right after school. They ate every piece of candy they got from school and then wouldn't eat supper. I'm taking the weekend off from doing anything.
Hope everyone has a great week ahead.

SuziQ - Your story about your husband's death has certainly touched me. So did yours, Karen, about your sister's birthday. It brings not only grief, but shock and undeserved guilt with it. It reminded me a bit of Joan Didion's memoir, The Year of Magical Thinking, which made a profound impression on me and was one of the spurs to writing my own memoir. For anyone who doesn't know her work, her husband died right in the middle of dinner, just sitting at the table, without her even noticing until she turned around.
It sounds as if you have made very good strides in finding some peace. Last night I slept alone in the marital bed because DH was in the next room trying out the harder mattress we have in there. I thought of all of you who have lost husbands. I felt fear.
Now I'm going to make him a morning cuppa.
(((HUGS))) to you.

Hello everyone.
Rant on promotion. Read at your own will.I think most of you will remember the story I shared about finally getting a promotion after almost five years of discussion with my manager. I finally put my foot down at the end of October and was told it will happen in November.
At the beginning of December my boss said the promotion was still coming, but due to open enrollment the HR department was backed up. She also said do not worry this is going to happen.
At the end of December sometime around the holidays she stopped by my desk and stated, I spoke with HR and I asked for your promotion to get completed in January.
Near the end of the first week of February I had to update her with several projects I had been working upon. At the end of the conversation I asked about the promotion. She proceeded to tell me that I must be patient. The paperwork is in process and is now at corporate. She almost made me feel like I was asking for something that was unusual. I held my tongue which at this point is becoming very difficult. I did very nicely state that during our last conversation I was informed the promotion would happen in January and I was just following up.
At that point she informed me it will occur when we get our reviews. Please note last year’s reviews for 2018 were not given to us until the end of April. So once again the promotion is being delayed over 6 months.
And, let’s face it. When one gets a promotion at the same time as one’s review it is just corporate’s way of saving money. I am sure I will hear the “oh, we got you this great jump in salary, but since it was so great your review will result in less money”. It happened the last time I was promoted and I am sure it will happen this time.
I do really like my boss. She is one of the better ones over the years. The company I work for is relatively good and the working environment is not horrible. I am overall happy there and the work is still challenging and I continue to learn new things.
But, I will say I am getting so tired of working and dealing with the politics and general BS. I cannot wait until I can take SS which is planned to be taken as soon as I can. The same thing with the pension I will receive. I will probably still work, but it will be a hobby!
It’s just crazy. I have been leading the team for over 5 years now and the promotion is still being delayed. To say I feel taken advantage of is an understatement. It is getting closer, but how long is a person supposed to wait?
For those of you who have read - thank you. I really needed to dump these toxic thoughts and just move on.
I have an idea how you feel.- Gov't job.
- Promised a temp promotion 15 months ago.
- Recently told it probably won't go through after all.
- Now a bit of a job shake-up in our area.
- May be a position coming up soon that would be an actual promotion and although it should be coming to me because I've been doing the work, it looks to me like they've started grooming someone else for it.
- For the first time in the 6.5 years I've been working here, I'm starting to think I might be able to do better.
I'm not going to rush into anything ... maybe things will sort themselves out ... and I really want to finish my Master's first.
I don't have a Linked In profile yet, but maybe once I graduate ...

Good Morning, all. There's a bit of a lull in the storm this morning as it's centre passes over. No major problems where we live, but there has been considerable flooding elsewhere.
Michele: Safe travels. How long is the journey home?
Rori: We savour these moments of relative normality. I have lost several family members to dimentia. Currently have a dear friend who is in a similar position with her DH. It's tragic to see how it affects the lives of everyone who knows them. We do our best to be there for them, but cannot walk in their shoes. (((Hugs)))
Heather: At our age, death is an ever present worry. But I choose not to dwell on it too much. I have a very fatalistic view on life. Things will happen whether I worry about them or not, so why waste my time and energy angsting over what lies ahead. I give thanks every morning when I wake up, and endeavour to make the most of whatever turns up.
Enough navel gazing! 😂 Must get up and make the most of the sunshine. After lunch we will go on our usual Sunday outing to visit DED and grandsons. And I still have a story/poem to write for tomorrow morning on the prompt I gave to the Creative Writing Group.

"Todo"s and "done"Done: make rum glaze for mini pound cakes, dog group, prep hospitality veggies, steak dinner for Joe.
Bonus: 40 mins beach walk with Joe and the dogs.
ToDo: church hospitality and council meeting, invest 10 mins cleaning Kitchen/Laundry, carry over 10 mins cleaning Office, Master & Guest Bds, Master Bth, dip and, follow up for DEXA scan appt, install iCloud for Win 10, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, bake bran muffins, call Carolyn D. Next week Shadow to Mini Pet Mart to shop for crate, get Shingrix vaccine. Reward: inventory seeds, plan garden, order replenishments.
Lisa ditto what Karen in VA and Tracey said about the sarcastic greeting cards. There IS a market there Brilliant re-framing! Feel there is also a market for that gift/skill, if not in greeting cards, then perhaps posters or encouraging gift items?
Flea likewise ditto Karen in VA’s “timely” comment and Machka’s recommendation to talk to a lawyer. See your DH has spoken with Lawyers, were they Utah licensed? Seems like there are significant difference in the states’ definitions of “estate” when it comes to Medicaid cost recovery.
Karen in VA what telling photos, both the swim meet prep, but especially the first meeting with Liliana.
Kate in UK ((hugs)) so hard to be far away and unable to have a private to with your brother. Is there a community center nearby he could take her for an afternoon’s respite, then meet or call you? Likely he really needs someone to give him the gift of listening first.
Katla happy anniversary, such a romantic wedding! High water mark on the fireplace? :noway: Say “Hi” to Arrow for us.
Pip “touchy gas pedal” on forever beast, somehow sounds just like you Does it talk to you in a bossy tone like my car does?
SuziQ for your loss, tho’ Heather said it better. Thanks for your wise words to Flea. Boy, howdy! does your promotion story ring true. I am SO happy to be out of the corporate politics and BS. Really hoping your title comes through before the borrowed time expires.
Beth so good to see your smiling face!
Tracey what an interesting bitter cucumber cure! Find the seasonally available Persian and English (soft skinned) cucumbers sweeter, than the waxy skinned ones available year round. That reminds me, time to order more beit alpha cucumber seeds, an F1 hybrid so saving seeds year to year won’t work.
Welcome Ani in Toronto!
Rebecca your cooking makes my mouth water, and your Athena Rose with her Papa makes my heart happy.
Janet in Tx sounds like a workable solution to me. Well done.
Machka any progress on the online course front? Hoping that bit of good could come out of the coronavirus tragedy.
Rori smiling to hear of your DH enjoying Ford vs Ferrari. Did your DH recognize the surfboard shop in the movie, or did you just know?
Marianne sounds horrible, like your son and DIL need help rearing their children. Are there any community counseling services in their area? At 6 and 9 if nothing changes, their behavior will worsen and they will get into real real trouble. Congratulations on keeping weight steady despite stress!
Terri “give thanks every morning when I wake up” Amen, sister, amen! Then give thanks for Joe, the pooches, everyone who I’ve ever loved or whoever has loved me, this beautiful place we live in… and indoor plumbing
Lighter, lovelies!
