Thank you barbiecat, stressful yes and even when you are not there! But happily on track now and you are right it is an eating plan rather than a 'diet'. Glad you like the research, it is one of my in front of the TV activities. I essentially do it for myself but if I think it will be helpful to others, I share.
Lynnchristy, yes, the maintenance of the site was a pest especially as I was trying to do it late at night. I finally gave up and added in this morning.
Linda, my TV solution is to turn off the sound and do something else foe a few minutes. Mind you I can't still still anyway and can't even watch TV unless I have a pile of activities to do at the same time. If I feel tempted to eat I go and clean my teeth!
I was reading this last night, more reasons to choose healthy! Sorry it comes with all the extras on the page.

Thank you. This is a great article. I knew most of what was in the article but the presentation was so clear and easy to understand. After a long time of weighing twice a day every day, I learned a lot about fluctuations. Most frequently overnight weight gain comes from restaurant or processed foods or broccoli, or nuts. Now that I know that, I don't worry about it.

Good morning 60 and uppers. Hope all is well.
Thought I'd share a little about what started me on MFP. After my husband was diagnosed with a rare agent orange related terminal disease and rounds of chemo (he's doing good for now with progression of disease restrained) we decided life would be easier by selling the house and moving to a senior community (with elevators.) The kids came in and took the things they wanted, had an estate sale and downsized big time. When we got to the new small space I looked around at many of the people here and decided sitting around doing nothing probably would lead to needing a walker just to move around. So the overdue search for a lifestyle change began. Fortunately I found MFP. I've never felt better. I'm still achy but doing so much more than I had been at my fat high. I ache either way so why not move those joints, pump the blood and eat to feed my body. I love this new home, and love the way I'm taking care of myself now.
Yesterday was good, cleaned (gave up the cleaning crew) for hours. I knew what my calories would be and waited until the MFP maintenance was done and plugged in my food and exercise cleaning time, completed the entry and smiled seeing what I'd weigh in 5 weeks. Thanks for listening.
Food for the day logged. Headed to the gym and knitting group today.

What started me on MFP was that my husband began the Isagenix weight loss plan at the recommendation of his chiropractor. The plan was two shakes a day and a 400-600 calorie meal. To plan the meals, I needed to know calorie count for some foods and google led me to MFP. Since I was looking up calorie count for foods, I decided to start logging my food and found how many calories I was consuming and began to change what I eat. I made more gradual changes after that including drinking more water and seeking every opportunity to be active.
In a few minutes, my friend will arrive and the dogs and I will go with her for a walk. At 9:00 I have a line dance class. When I get home, my husband will have lunch ready. It's a good life.

Yup, I agree with whoever said I think my favourite part of the tracking is the last sentence that says, 'If everyday was like today, you would weigh XX in 5 weeks!' What a little wake up call.
I'll be 60 in a few months. Lost 30 pounds In 2018, stayed steady throughout 2019 and now am back at it to lose the other 30. Love all the advice and support here on MFP and this thread. Trying to manage my alcohol addiction and maintain my health. Starting working out at the gym 2 or 3 times a week. Not much but it's a start.
Plan to be on MFP daily and looking for and giving support and encouragement. Send me a friend request if interested in daily motivation and accountability.

Good morning 60 and uppers I am so glad to see the update for MFP are done YAY. I am down 2.2 more pounds, that's 8.4 since the first of the year, I'll take it Thanks for the great advice and links to those who are so helpful.

I started on MFP because of a health issue and because I just am so tired of these 30-50 pounds I have been fighting with all my life. I find the tracking so educational and interesting. I learn something new everyday. I am so grateful for the group and individual support. It makes me accountable. I also have a real life diet buddy and we check in frequently.
Doing well with the diet and enjoying my upper body and core only aerobics!

Hi, I'm Teresa and am 62 years old. I've been on MFP since July, 2019. I've read through this community from time to time but this is my first comment. I want to make a shout out to AnnPT77 for that link, I really needed that today! Thank you. The chart showing the scale weight fluctuations compared to actual fat loss was VERY enlightening...I think I had an AHA moment!7

A good day today managed to get everything on my list completed and got in a walk and exercise too. Lost another pound too finally now 11lbs more to go!

Hi everyone - I hope you are having a great day!
I'm not losing my spare tire as quickly as I would like, but the info Ann posted made me face the fact that this is for the long haul, and to just go with it - it'll happen sooner or later. Fortunately, between MFP and a recently acquired grill/air fryer, I'm eating much better. The only thing I'm really missing is a coke each morning (egads, the sugar and carbs in those things!). And, I'm not missing beer at all. Today's mail brought a very good pair of walking shoes from Zappos, and they got put to a successful test earlier today. Much to the pup's unhappiness I had to cut that walk short because it was drizzling, so we'll get the other half done in a bit if the weather allows.
Back in the fall I adjusted my supplement routine which helped tremendously - and now with MFP, that has been balanced with proper eating and exercise. It's amazing how much better I consistently feel now, both physically and mentally.4 -
I have a lot of "friends" on MFP, but the best unaccountably for me is being part of a thread that I can check in with every day. I can see how you are doing and I can tell you what's happening with me.
My husband has a bread maker and likes making bread for me. I figured out how to slice and freeze it so I can dole it our sparingly to myself rather than eating the whole loaf in one sitting. Today's bread is rye. I am taking one slice to my walking friend when I see her tomorrow.

I wish I was your walking friend LOL that bread sounds good bethe, I do hope you were able to get back out to really give those new Zappos a proper workout without the drizzles annliz23, good for you getting everything on your list done I rarely am able to do that. I don't know if my list is too long or I just don't move fast enough anymore teresadannar, hello and welcome bacpath, I'm glad you are enjoying your upper body and core only aerobics... You go girl

So day didnt go exactly as planned:-
Got up ready for grandson then son phoned to say he wouldn't be coming!
To windy to clear all the leaves up.
No weight loss
Knees and back still to tender to do a good solid workout!
However:-
Went back to bed and had 7 hours sleep in total instead if 5 1/2 hours✔
Took the dogs for a very windy walk✔
Took son shopping and I didnt buy anything and refused the cake he offered ✔
Cooked a yummy pasta dish using scraps in the fridge and low calorie too✔
Got in an evening walk as rain held off✔
Measured belly fat using a weight watchers measure thingy and belly fat gone from 46 mm to 33mm and hip fat from 28mm to 18mm✔✔
So overall a good day I used to get down if I hadnt lost weight or not exercised but now realised it's ok, it's a life change so I can be healthy and fit as I grow older, so I listen to my body needs and adapt to that, if I want a piece of chocolate then it's ok but I just tweak another meal to balance it out, if I cant exercise then I motivate my brain instead till I can exercise more!

Let's say you want to go on a few day hiatus, do you use the maintenance calories based on your current weight or your goal weight? Perhaps this thread (link below) in the maintenance part of the forum would be helpful: It discusses several methods people can use to find the right level when transitioning to maintenance, and most (not all) would work for a temporary maintenance break.

If you want to use a calculator that's been working for you so far (correctly predicts your weight loss), you would use your current-weight maintenance calories. If you're close to final goal, it might not be a big difference, but if you have a fair bit to lose yet, your goal-weight maintenance calories may be enough less than your current-weight maintenance calories that you'd keep losing on goal-weight maintenance calories.
(Some people even do their whole weight loss process just eating goal weight maintenance calories. I had a fantasy about doing that for a while, but got impatient. It gets slow.).4 -
