Did Cathe Friedrich’s After Burn DVD. I think I have this one. Gotta find it. Anyway, the plan for tomorrow is to do a Total Cardio Burn DVD.
Barbara – my spices were “sort of” alphabetized before this pandemic. Now they are really alphabetized. It’s supposed to be quite warm tomorrow so I’m going to talk to Vince about cleaning the deck. Having the water spray will probably feel good Update: he wants to work on the pool so I may just do it myself. Update: He said he wants to do something with the pool so I'll just do it myself. It would go a lot faster with two of us, but I would rather get it done
Have a load of laundry in the wash right now.
Did I tell you all that Colby is coming here for Easter? I don’t mind him here, but it’s just that VA has a stay-at-home order so I didn’t think he could. Well, we’ll have ham, I decided I’ll make macaroni and cheese, I’ll probably also make a pineapple angel food cake (something I would want). I know Vince will finish it
Gotta go to WM to get a prescription for Vince (and I’ll do a little shopping) then later I’ll go to a friend’s house to pick up a mask from her.
SuziQ – It’s starting to get to the point where there are things that I need Vince to help me with and getting him to do something…I hate to nag but like tomorrow is supposed to be nice, we’ll want to cook out on the deck later this summer so we need to get it cleaned. Jess is the same way – puts things off until the last minute. Before we went to FL I told Vince that I wanted to go to the lawyer to update our will to include PJ. He said “we’ll go when we get back” Now this. How many times before we went to FL did I tell him that he needed to go about these coins. They’re still sitting on the counter, he never got to it…now this. For YEARS I've been asking him to go thru these videotapes of his parents. I know it's hard for him so I'll just do it. I know the kids won't want a whole lot of them. You can’t get fresh fish in FL? We usually can on the Cape or we go to Dixie Crossroads, you may have heard of that place. Eremil Lagasse did a show from there once. I remember going with MIL and FIL when they first opened about 30 years ago. Now the prices are much higher

I feel so so bad for my neighbor, the one who’s husband was deployed to Afghanistan for 6 months, then it was another 60 to 90 days. She just got word that it’ll be indefinitely. Her daughter is getting married in October. I can hardly imagine what’s going thru their minds. And I know he’s very down.
Finished cleaning the windows, went to get the mask from my friend, went to the bank then WalMart, cleaned the inside of my car (will probably wash it tomorrow, maybe). There were many more people with face masks on in WM. Interestingly…not many of the workers, tho. I think I only saw one person with a mask on.
Wednesday here: Did a Total Cardio Burn DVD. Despite the title, it is really more of a weight DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do Tracy Long’s Back Up DVD.

Went for a walk with my neighbor last night. It’s just so good to get out of the house. She still wants our development to be gated, but I honestly don’t think that’ll happen. For it to be effective, the entire development would have to have a fence around it and that would be major, major, money. I just can’t see it happening. She also would like street lights. Yes, that would be nice, but it would also mean that we’d have to install the wiring and some of the mailboxes (which are brick) would need to be moved. I don’t see that happening. But I just let her talk.

SuziQ – I really can’t see spending the money on my nails. I’d rather spend that money on something that I want and will enjoy for time to come.
Lisa AR – you know, even at the gym (when I went there) I’d sing and dance to the songs while I was on the treadmill. Well, I just mouthed the words to the song, but I’d also dance.
Don’t know if this is true, haven’t been able to find out. Maybe someone else can. Vince was talking to our financial adviser yesterday and he mentioned that while Zoom’s headquarters are in the US, their servers are in China. I haven’t been able to find anything about where the servers are located.

When Jake wanted to buy a big stand up freezer in 1999, I thought it was a really silly idea but he wanted it. For a lot of years it didn't have too much in it. Then in 2005, I started making applesauce and freezing it (everyone I knew offered me their apples) and the freezer started filling up. Now the freezer is priceless. We have frozen chicken breasts and thighs, pork chops, 25 jars of meal sized portions of things we've cooked (soup, chicken mole, chicken with peanut sauce), frozen veggies, microwave meals ,juice bars, bagels, bread, etc,) That's why I can go to the store far less frequently than other people. When we got it, I thought it was a luxury, now I see it as a lifesaver. When we paid a zillion dollars for Jake's new computer in January, it seemed like a luxury. Now that he can't go anywhere, it is a lifeline for Jake who will play his new computer game for hours and be super happy. Once again, it is true, that we don't always know what is a good thing and what isn't.

Sure, Katla!Penny: Soup is a favorite in our house. Your flat bread looks yummy. Do you share recipes?
Soft flatbread
Time: 1½-2 hours
Yield: 16-24
50 g (4 T) margarine
5 dl (1 c) milk
12 g fresh yeast (1½ tsp active dry yeast)
1 tsp salt
½ dl (4 T) sugar
1-2 T corn syrup
½ tsp hartshorn
½ dl (4 T) rye flour
10 dl (4½ c) all-purpose flour
2-3 T freshly ground fennel seeds
Melt margarine, add milk, heat to 37°C (~100°F). Stir in/dissolve yeast. Stir in other ingredients. Let rise 30 min.
Divide dough into 16-24 pieces and roll into balls. Roll out on flourerd surface to 15-20 cm (6-8 in). Flip frequently to prevent sticking.
Lift the rolled-out dough, brush off any excess flour, transfer to a dry frying pan on medium heat, and give each side about 2 minutes.
These freeze extremely well. Individual pieces of flatbread can easily be separated from the frozen stack, and they thaw in no time.
Hartshorn is also called baker's ammonia = ammonium carbonate. It can be hard to get hold of in the US, but baking powder can be used instead.
A waffle-pattern rolling pin helps a lot, but it's possible to roll out the dough with an ordinary smooth one.
European recipes for baked goods often don't work very well in the US, and vice versa. It apparently has to do with the protein content of the flour. But I've made this flatbread several times in New Hampshire with good results.
Exactly as someone guessed (I forget who), cats are exotic species and thus banned. I don't think polar bears would bother with cats anyway. They go for bigger prey (seals, occasionally reindeer) or "slow food" that doesn't even try to get away (seabird eggs and dead, beached whales). A more specific explanation for the ban is that cats might spread rabies. Dogs are allowed up here, but they must all be marked with ID chips and vaccinated against rabies.Penny why aren’t cats allowed in Svalbard? Understand they’d have to be indoors only to avoid being snacks for the polar bears…
By coincidence, we just had a case where someone tried to bring along two cats to the settlement of Barentsburg (where half the residents are Russian, half Ukrainian). The authorities found out and immediately arranged to have the cats sent back to Moscow. That was kind of them, because according to the regulations, smuggled cats are supposed to be euthanized — at the owner's expense to boot.
I've love doing puzzles but I do them online at www.jigidi.com. I miss the tactile part of doing real cardboard puzzles, but digital puzzles take no table space, the pieces never get lost, and they never need to be protected against marauding cats or small children. :laugh: Recently I've paired puzzling with listening to music on YouTube. Bach's B minor mass, Dvorak's New World Symphony, Pergolesi Stabat Mater... Sublime relaxation.

Kim — Your blog post about starting a garden got me longing not only for spring, but also for a more conducive climate. My garden is currently under about six feet of snow! It's also at 70°N, with midnight sun from mid-May to late July so all crops with strong photoperiodicity — like corn — are out. All varieties of beans and squash need higher soil temperatures than I can offer. I've tried spinach, thinking it would enjoy the cool, but it sprouted, bolted, blossomed, and went to seed faster than you could say Brussels sprout. Tomatos and bell peppers do well in a greenhouse, but until I get one set up, I'll have to be content with potatoes. And dill! And Strawberries! And RASPBERRIES! I don't mind waiting until August for strawberries and September for raspberries because they're SOO GOOOD!
About seeing guns on the street: we get that a lot here, since anyone heading out of town has to be armed against polar bears. Tourists love taking photos of young mothers pushing baby carriages with 15-pound rifles slung over their shoulders. The young mothers don't love it quite so much. :noway:I am almost embarrassed to tell you that my local QFC grocery store had shelves filled with TP. We have plenty so I didn't buy any. Later this week, I'll go to Costco and if they have TP, I'll get some because that's where I usually buy it.
Barbie and Karen: I recently bought an 18-pack of TP, one of about 30 packs of that brand and that size — not to mention all the other brands. because that's the size I usually buy, and we were down to our last couple rolls. Besides, they had lots!
Our little store is well supplied with nearly everything, but they're experts at keeping inventory in stock. We're so isolated they have to be experts! Back when our old manager Karin retired and the new manager Ronny came up from the mainland and hired some new staffers, they accidentally ordered WAY more fruit than they could possibly sell before it went bad. In the end they got rid of it by letting people fill carrier bags with whatever fruit they pleased and charging 50 Norwegian kroner a bag. For a well-filled bag, that comes in at about 50 cents a pound — even if you'd filled it with papaya and dragonfruit those little trays of hand-picked blueberries. They never made that mistake again.

I had a great 5k.
Sunshine and heat! A policewoman was patrolling the beach and dispersing anyone just loafing about. We managed to avoid coming close to anyone, but I will go up the less busy end in the next few days.
It feels good to have got it done. I've got a stiff back at the moment - I think too much rowing, so running was a better choice.

Just heard that Amazon at last has got my hair dye and it will be delivered next week. That means I can use my last box with a light heart. Maybe Friday. Hooray! I never have manicures, massages, or professional dyes. Just a wet trim, no blow dry. I am cheap!

Our state, or at least our county isn't into arresting and fining people from what I know. But the boss is a regular attendee at the daily televised Covid-19 meetings where everyone sits 6+ feet apart, all spread out in the Commissioner's meeting room. Since he's an engineer, you'd think he understands what 6 feet is, lol.

I've heard people say that there are many masks for sale on Etsy. Perhaps your daughter could order some from there, or you could and ship them to her. I haven't looked personally, so I can't confirm that they are out there, but several people have told me that there are many people selling them for $7-$10 each (at the low end).
Hubs and I are going the no sew bandana and ponytail holder route.

Seems like we are half and half on this thread. Me, I’m an introvert so CoVid works in my favor. I’m perfectly happy wandering around alone with my camera and dogs. Or sitting outside reading or playing with my electronics.

Since we live in an RV and do not have a washer/dryer, I’ve gone back to hand washing clothes in a bucket and hanging to dry. No laundry mat to stay away from people. It is surprisingly calming to me when I do it. Speaking of which, I am doing my sheets today....
Pics of the day: me going to store for essentials yesterday, then getting stuck at train tracks where train actually stopped in front of me with a car right on my tail! Thankfully train backed up off the crossings eventually.

Yes, there were several sellers that had plenty of masks when I looked on Etsy yesterday afternoon. $7 to $10. My hat is off to anyone who can make these in quantity to sell. I figure I have $20 each just in time alone with the few I threw together yesterday and this morning.

Funniesone I took the Spanish joke off but the young man it said He is first to go because he wore his mask wrong lol 😂 he wearing panties lol 😆.
Time for the young to learn simple sewing 🧵 skills make theirselves masks. I learned young simple stitch (wish I knew sewing machines but couldn’t figure it out). I learned because Dad who knew upholstery to farm medical had no time to sew stuff for awhile I had to learn to keep the family going I wasn’t even a preteen yet!

Barbie – when we bought our freezer Vince asked me if I wanted a big one. We didn’t have one before and now that the kids are moved out, I didn’t think I needed it. Now I wish I’d gotten the bigger one, especially for when things are on sale
You know, in some ways I think Aldi is doing a major disservice. They advertise things on sale with a minimum saying that the price is in the store. Then, when you go to the store, it’s the regular price. This just makes people want to go out to see what it is, even if those people don’t need to go out.
