Hi everyone, just checking in. Saturday afternoon here. You've all been so busy commenting that I can't keep up!
I did want to comment on the body shaming by parents though - it wasn't my mother but my father. My mother was obese until she had weight loss surgery in 2009 after dumping my father's sorry *kitten*. My father, despite being overweight himself, gave both mum and I a hard time while I was growing up. I learned not to eat in front of him, because the digs about my weight and size and not needing food never stopped. He banned me from eating the "school snack" foods in the house (only my brother was allowed them.) So I learned to sneak food and hide what I was eating. I constantly heard that I was so fat that I would never find anyone to love me. When I did try to lose weight as a teenager, he would actively sabotage it by buying me icecream etc and then blame me if I did or didn't eat it. He is a big part of my disordered eating that goes back to when I was 7 or 8 years old. I wasn't really overweight back then, just tall for my age. By the time I was 10 I had BED and anorexic behavior patterns.
I don't know if he genuinely thought he would motivate me to lose weight, or if he was an *kitten*, but the longer I know him the more I think the latter. Upbringing and concern covers some of it, but there's no excuse for being a horrible person. He's in his 60's now and the only reason the comments have stopped is because I no longer talk to him.
Anyway, my mother is awesome. I'm aware that I learned some bad eating habits from her during childhood, but then she was trying to cope with emotional abuse from my father and she didn't have a whole lot of choice in the matter. Since she left him, we have been able to work through stuff together and support each other with losing weight. And I have been able to figure out how not to pass my own dysfunctional eating on to my own kids - it seems to be okay so far!
I don't have a lot planned for the rest of my Saturday. Probably just need to get some firewood because it's turned freezing cold here, and my son needs some new sports shoes. Then a workout later on before a family movie night I think! 🙂

Logged food: yes, under
Water: 9 cups, plus a few mugs of herbal tea
Steps: 13,780
Activity: went for a walk (even though it rained all day, it was actually kinda nice walking in it!)
I started a 12-Day cleanse today called the Wild Rose D-Tox. I’ve been eating so poorly for the last few months and it’s really caught up to me - hoping this will help me feel less heavy and sloth-like! Day 1 went ok, I prepped a bunch of stuff for the weekend, but really craving my usual nighttime sweets right now!6 -

@sleepymom5
I definitely need to get my head back where it belongs with exercise and food. I can't control other things around me but that I can control. Those are good examples. I'm going to take it one day at a time.
Thank you for not "allowing" me back into the 200's.😁I really don't want to be there.
Thank you! You've got this too!
My county and some surrounding areas have some flooding but nothing like where the dams failed. My coworker has water in her basement. People and businesses who are near the river have been having issues.3 -
I haven't checked in for a few days. I see I missed a lot of posts.
I need to get my eating under control and drink more water. My exercise has been primarily walking. I'm meeting a friend from church at a local park to walk this morning.
Work has been really slow. Only 28 hours last week and 24 this week. Only 5 of us on 3rd shift got 24 hours, the others got 16. Another building only worked 12 hours and one area didn't work at all. They've already laid off several hundred people. If this keeps up, they'll probably lay off more and my company had 5,000 employees. I can't imagine what will happen to the small businesses. Some of them around here have closed permanently.5 -
Good morning! I am up and running. Literally. I just finished day 3 of C25K. 3500 steps 6500 more to go. I honestly feel like I could run 5 miles but I’m taking it real slow.
32 oz of water done.
Had another great day yesterday. This morning my scale went up again. I have incorporated all the good habits I can think of. Last tool in my box is my oldie but goodie. Pulling out CICO. Logged my breakfast this morning and feeling optimistic.
Perfectly portioned breakfast bowl.
@Cafelelia it thrills me when you speak Italian to me lol.
@lenka1 you motivated me to start logging again.5 -
Daily Check In: Friday May 22
Logged food: yes on track
Water: 64 oz
I am very happy with my week. I am ready to start to focus on my logging and portions and had a successful day with that yesterday. I wasn't sure about my calories at dinner. Mary Kate made Chicken Alfredo! It was delicious! She did everything from setting the table, cooking and cleaning up. I was absolutely blown away! She actually packed up the last of it to give to her friend so I won't be tempted by it today. She is 20 and hasn't been the easiest to raise so this meant a little more than just having a meal cooked for me.
I have a lot to get done today. We are having a new bed delivered on Tuesday so I need to things sorted out in my room. I am excited for a new bed, we need one. But I am weirdly sad about getting rid of my old one. It is a high bed with a step to get into it. We are going from a queen to a king sized bed so I couldn't keep it. I wish we could reuse it in another room. Still thinking...We need to get new night stands too. So weird not to be able to run out and check out the stores. Hopefully soon. Pennsylvania is going to yellow on June 5th. Hopefully everyone takes the restrictions seriously so we can go to green soon.
Heading out for a walk between the rain. As @GingerPwr said-let's finish the week strong!
@Cafelelia That looks delicious!
@ljdanny You are doing great! Do not let the scale mess with you. It could be a number of things. Just keep doing what you are doing and I am sure you will have a drop. Enjoy the BBQ, between the food with the smoker and seeing your granddaughter it will be a nice day!
@podperson1 It sounds like you are having a good week with your stricter plan. I love the idea of sharing pictures. Sounds like fun! I also thought I was fat when I clearly wasn't. I remember thinking I was huge when I was 145 lbs. I was panicked that I was 5 pounds from 150. I am 5'7" so I was clearly a normal weight. And thanks for your kind words, I do know that I went through a lot but it is hard getting that through my thick head sometimes.
@1theresamcvean That is exactly the article I was talking about! Lol! I am not a lipstick wearer, I just use lip balm. It used to drive my Mother crazy lol.
@mrsbell8well Literally up and running Lol! Hopefully you hear from NC soon. Yes, taking care of yourself is time consuming but very important!
@GingerPwr Happy Anniversary!! Hope you enjoyed your dinner. How nice to be going to a restaurant too! Who would think in 2020 we would think just going out to dinner would be such a treat!
@xX_PhoenixRising_Xx It is sad how things said to us in our childhood can really impact how we are today. The idea that you already were showing behaviors of eating disorders by such a young age is mind blowing. I know you have already done a lot of work with your eating disorders which I assume would address some of these issues during your childhood. Look how far you have come, you really are amazing. Hugs!
@twyla77 Wow! What a great day you had! I know many people do fasts and detoxes after eating crappy and have good results. Good luck! And keep it going!!
@hope002 You are doing great! Still heading downward on that scale!
@Zumba_Luvah I am sure that is just from it being TOM. You should have a nice loss next week!
@brown6267 Another great day of stepping!
@tryingagain5 One day at a time is a good plan. It is easier not to get overwhelmed with planning just one day. I don't know if it helps to check in here daily. I notice you seem to do better when you do. If it is too time consuming, don't worry about commenting unless something strikes you. It is important for this to be a tool that will work for you. The weekend is a good time to recharge, reset and maybe make a loose plan for next week. I know you can do this. You have come so far! xo
@Cafelelia and @1theresamcvean Aren't you ladies supposed to be speaking French Lol! Or is that only a certain part of Canada. Canada is so big...

Hello everyone! Sorry I’ve not posted at all except for my weekly weigh-in. Just not in a good weight-loss mindset. I’m hoping I’ll get back into a good routine soon, I have good intentions, but I just don’t have the energy!
Have a good weekend!😊5 -
Friday check in
Food - on plan, including a few glasses of wine
Water - 1.5 l
Exercise - 5 km walk
Yesterday was another good day. I could not get that last 500 ml of water, but other than that, I did well. We had friends over for distanced drinks last night in our backyard and I stuck to my 3 drink maximum. I was so happy that another week of virtual school is behind us. 5 more weeks to go! The glorious weather continues here. After being outside all week, I finally have some colour back. I was looking a little grey prior to that! We have been in phase 1 reopening for about a week here. I went to pick up a package today, and it seemed like people were getting a more lax in their distancing practices. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out over time.
@sleepymom5 - That must have been such a wonderful feeling having MK do all of that! When your child is not the easiest (ahem, thinking of my eldest), it just feels so rewarding when he or she makes progress. The sourdough was delicious, probably one of my best loaves so far! Yes, we should be speaking French, it is one of our official languages! I speak it ok, but my husband & kids are fluent. Toronto is one of the most diverse cities on the planet, so we tend to pick up sayings in many languages. I think there is something like over 140 languages spoken here!
@mrsbell8well - Ciao! Love your gradual approach and that meal looks delicious!
@tryingagain5 - I am glad that you were not directly impacted by that flooding. I am so sorry about work being slow and I hope it picks up soon for you. There is just so much uncertainty everywhere these days. In terms of getting back on track, as many folks have been doing here, maybe try little, gradual changes as a start.
@Zumba_Luvah - At least you know that little gain is TOM, so it will pass soon!
@KUMEcyclingteam - Don’t dismiss a maintain! You have had a lot to do taking care of your mom and working. You can do this!
@hope002 - Another week of awesome! Congrats!
@twyla77 - You will get back on track! Can you explain this detox? I have not heard of it.
@xX_PhoenixRising_Xx - It feels so strange that many of are taking about the weather warming and it is the opposite for you! Thanks for sharing about your dad and the painful issues he caused starting in your childhood. It is good that you are now aware and moving on as best as you can. Your relationship with you mom sounds lovely and it is so nice that you can work on things together. Sending a big hug to you and thanks writing about issues that are not easy to write about.
@GingerPwr - Hope that you had a lovely anniversary!
@1theresamcvean - My fellow Torontonian. and Italian speaker! That textbook excerpt was hilarious!
@podperson1 - I think you are right that many of us are getting into some new routines. I love that idea of digging up old photos and sharing with friends. I think it was Nora Ephron. who said that when you are in your 70s, you will look back at every decade of your life, wishing you looked that way again. She was so right about appreciating the present, no matter what.
@ljdanny - Hope that you are enjoy the day with your family, especially your granddaughters! So many of us have had our lives and routines disrupted significantly. You will figure this out!

I thought a that Captain Tom would motivate us with our step challenge this week! He is now Colonel Tom and soon to be Sir Thomas. He is so awesome!
For those of you participating, post your steps tomorrow for Sunday, May 17th to Saturday, May 23rd. I will announce the winners on Monday morning.4 -

Daily Check In: Saturday May 23
Logged food: yes, under
Water: 10 cups, plus some herbal tea
Steps: not very many
Activity: not very much
Day 2 of my cleanse under my belt, feeling good so far, but the research I’ve done says people might start feeling a little yucky on Day 3 or 4, so we’ll see what tomorrow brings.
@Cafelelia - the Wild Rose Herbal D-Tox is labelled as an ‘easy 12-Day Internal Cleansing’ (they’re not kidding about the internal cleansing part!) cutting out bread, flour, dairy, and tropical fruits. No peanuts or fermented foods, no sugar or dried fruits. I’m fine with most of it, but the sugar thing is killing me lol. I was going to make some muffins to curb my ‘treat’ craving, so had to make do with unsweetened apple sauce, almond flour (approved as it’s from a nut not a grain) and blueberries...they actually turned out really good and did the trick!

I spoke to soon... as soon as I said things were getting under control... on my walk Thursday, I get a call my mom tripped and fell flat on her face, nose might be broken. So rushed over. Took her to the doctor, luckily nothing broken but super swollen and a lot of blood. The only thing I have been able to do this week was walk. Every night after dinner my husband and I would walk down towards the bluffs and look at the ocean. Felt good and helped me wipe away the day. Maybe next week I'll start tracking again.

Weigh in week 4
xX_phoenixrising_Xx
Weigh in day: Sunday
PW: 255.2 (115.8 kg)
CW: 255.2 (115.8 kg)
I've been bouncing around this weight all week, it will probably drop in a few days.
This week I learned that I shouldn't buy baked mango or pineapple - my calories have been fine, but I get obsessed with foods and I can't stop eating them. If they're in the house, they get consumed. So I'm not buying that now, and finding different snacks.4
