Glad I found this thread and thanks Barbie for starting it - sounds like a great, supporting group of ladies here. This is my 2nd day using MFP. Very eye opening when you see the daily calories tracked! I need to lose at least 70 pounds and since that seems like a long journey, I'm breaking it into smaller goals - focus on 10 pounds at a time. Happy last day of June!

Rebecca: You said: “My husband said I put too much importance on communication.” IMHO, husbands can be great partners and they can be clueless. Communication is essential. Let your DH know you love him even when he is clueless.

MiBarbar: I’ve always loved my daughter. She’s gained weight and I focus on her happy family life, work and self-confidence. I’m not ever planning to discuss her weight unless she brings the subject up with me.

Heather: Both of my adult children had partners that didn’t fit in their past. Luckily, they got past that. Now they're both with people who appreciate them and are good partners. :star:

Allie: Good luck getting all your paper work done so that you get your license ASAP.

Dlfk202000: I have always found that ‘assuming’ works poorly for me. I’m often off track when I try it. Asking works much better for me. I hope you’ll figure out what works best for you. :flowerforyou:

Karen: I also grow sage. Mine is in a pot on my deck.

Debbie in VA: We seem to grow several of the same herbs. I also have sage, rosemary, thyme, parsley, and chocolate mint. The chocolate mint is new to me this year. :star:

Barbara: I hope the line dancing lifts your spirits. I’m looking forward to yoga for the same reason. It lifts my mood.

Julie in NW Chicago suburbs: Welcome! :flowerforyou:

I just found a very important message from Barbie. She’s posted our new July thread. I’m headed ther asap. See you next month!

    Joyful June Calendar ...

    ry9ezclaeo4g.png
    https://www.actionforhappiness.org/joyful-june

    1. Look for what's good ... lots of things!!

    Cycling outside
    Rhody
    Jam

Things I've liked since being at home from the end of March ...

Being home all day with my husband. I've got a better understanding of how his day goes.
Spending time with Rhody, getting to know him and getting him settled into our home.
Being able to go outside to walk, run or cycle in daylight, despite the fact that the daylight hours are getting shorter.
Having the energy to exercise regularly.
Seeing more people outside exercising. :)
Being able to sleep at least half an hour more each night than I was.
Being able to go for a nap in the afternoon occasionally.
Not having to spend 9-10 hours a week commuting!!!
Spending my days with a 180° view of the bay and trees and outside instead of a wall.
Being in an environment that rarely gives me sore, itchy eyes, sore throat, cough, and the sneezes.
Being able to clean this and that.
    Wearing casual, comfy clothes.
Not having as much stuff vying for my time.
More time to work on my two courses at uni.
Working remotely at my own pace ... which might lead to continued remote work ... maybe ... hopefully!
Being able to attend church online.
Feeling much more relaxed and less stressed!

Just to name a few. :)

    2. Reframe a worry and try to find a positive ...

    A worry?
Well, one of my many worries is that I won't pass my courses. So I'll use that as motivation to start studying for my final exam tonight!! :)

    3. Think of 3 Things to be Grateful For

    The COVID-19 shutdown.
    Working from home.
    Rhody.
I could go on and on!

    4. Show Appreciation to Those Who are Helping Others

I think of people like Rori, Tracey, Allie and the others here who are caregivers and especially caregivers to those with brain-related issues.

Also, co-incidentally, June 2 was Thank A First Responder day. My husband and I have been fortunate to be able to thank those who have helped him. Wonderful people!

    5. Smile and be friendly, even when you're social distancing.

That's something I've really enjoyed about all this. When I'm out walking, running or cycling, we exchange waves, nods and smiles with other people. It's nice. :) We can still be friendly, even with a road in between us.

    6. Notice the upsides during the lockdown, however small.

There are so many upsides!! See the list I made for June 1 above!

    7. Find a joyful way to be physically active (indoors or out)

For me, being active is joyful. I love being active.

I love walking, running, hiking, cycling, canoeing, rowing, splashing around in water (my version of swimming), cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, etc. etc. Give me an individual or partner activity (preferably not a group activity) and I'll most likely try it. I've given body boarding a try. I've given both individual and dual kayaking a try, and tennis, badminton, golf ... and I've got archery and dance on my list.

As I mentioned I am studying for my final exam. The course is about the interaction between technology and humans, and this actually ties into the lecture I'm currently watching (I'm watching the Q&A section after the lecture right now) as well as the talks I watched earlier today in that technology taking something away from our sense of place.

The talks have hinted at it, but haven't come right out and said it ... balance. I like technology. I like being able to go online to work, to attend university, to communicate with people. But I also like setting it aside for periods of time, going outside and doing something.

    8. Write a letter to thank someone for what they did.

I'm not one for writing letters anymore. I used to have a set of penpals and used to spend quite a bit of time writing, writing and writing but I stopped doing that in my late 20s. Now if I write, it's by email.

However, I did thank my husband for Thursday when I wrote my exam. He was very quiet!

    9. Find the joy in music today: sing, play, dance or listen.

I have ABC Classic FM on during the day and that has been great! I love having that sort of music on in the background when I work, and my husband and I are both also enjoying the small bit of commentary explaining some of the background to the pieces and bringing them to life. :)

If I have to go back to work at the office, I'm going to have to figure out how to "listen live" there.

    10. Take a photo of something that brings you joy and share it.

Rhody, relaxing in one of his favourite spots!!
    qovm73ztsv7a.png

    11. Say positive things in your conversations with others today.

On Thursday the 11th, there wasn't much conversation. Most of my time was spent studying, then doing my exam, then going into a semi-vegetative state. But I'm usually pretty positive with my husband. :)

And I hope you all have a great day today!! :)

    12. Make a plan with friends to do something fun together.

Um ... even if we're starting to be allowed to do that, we're not doing that. We like the shutdown, staying away from people, staying home most of the time, and not socialising.

But if all goes well, we'll get outside for a bicycle ride tomorrow.

I was thinking of cycling or running today but I'm just really, really tired.

    13. Appreciate the joy of nature and the beauty in the world around

Always do! And thankfully I live in a beautiful place.

    ewzx3tdui6q2.png

    14. Do three things to bring joy to other people today

Took my husband and I for a bicycle ride. :)

Took my husband and I for a bit of a drive in the country ... checking out a possible cycling route and an area that we hadn't really ventured into before. I'm not sure how it will work for cycling, but it was interesting to see something a little bit different.

Told my husband we could eat cake for breakfast?!? He made a white cake so we had it with my apple jam and whipped cream. :)

    15. Rediscover a fun childhood activity that you can do today.
    16. Ask a loved one what they feel grateful for at the moment.
    17. Be kind to you. Treat yourself the way you would treat a friend.

A fun childhood activity would be cycling. :) I have been riding a bicycle since I was 6 years old ... or earlier if you count my tricycle.
    h57gadmlpkz0.png

    Grateful for Rhody!

And I find it difficult to take care of myself when I've got so much to do.

    18. Send a positive note to a friend who needs encouragement. :)

    19. Create a list of favourite memories you feel grateful for. So many of them! I have an incredible number of wonderful memories throughout my life.

    20. Make time to do something playful today, just for the fun of it. Getting closer to doing that!

    21. Enjoy trying a new recipe or cooking your favourite food.
    22. Share a happy memory with someone who means a lot to you.

Well ... the apple jam is both a new recipe and it is quite good. I'm enjoying it. :)
And I've shared several happy memories of my cats with my husband.

    23. Look for something to be thankful for where you least expect it.
    24. Thank a friend for the joy they bring into your life.
    25. Eat food that makes you feel good and really savour it.
    26. See the upside in a difficult situation you learned from.
    27. Watch something funny and enjoy how it feels to laugh.

    23. The rain ... Tasmania needed it! Plus we were thankful for a nice, warm dry house. :)
    24. I don't have a large number of friends, but thank you all for your support.
    25. I have a little bit of chocolate each day, which I enjoy.
    26. One thing that has come from the most difficult situation in my life is that I've significantly increased my knowledge of the brain.
    27. I don't laugh, or rarely. But we have been watching Blackadder and I've had the occasional chuckle.

    28. Create a playlist of your favourite songs and enjoy them.
    29. Take time to do something that makes you happy today.
    30. Make a list of the joys in your life.

    28. I actually have two 64 GB USBs full of music which I can connect to our stereo now. It's lovely. I used to listen to music from the computer but what a difference a stereo makes! The sound is so much better.
    29. I do try ... unfortunately some days "going to sleep" is probably the best part of the day.
    30. This goes back to the first question ... my answer remains the same. :)

Belated Happy Birthday wishes to Lettie in UK and @Schabram

Joe invited me for a dawn beach stroll with the dogs and we walked farther than we have before. Mostly pleasant BUT, because I’ve been neglecting her training, Tumble REALLY pulls when she’s on leash, even with the Gentle Leader. She wants to be first, she wants to be leader, she wants to be up ahead with Daddy, she does NOT want to be leashed. I let her run free on the beach but leash her up when other people or dogs appear, and definitely from car to beach and back. As we were going up the path to the parking lot Joe was ahead with Shadow, Tumble and I were lagging behind as I was trying to remind her where heel position is. Joe stopped, turned around, whistled and called Tumble.,, Of course she leapt up and wrenched the leash further hurting my already aching arm. So I got mad, and practically threw the leash at him. Then I explained, and not in a loving tone, that when he calls her to him, she pulls even harder and hurts my arm. He apologized but I was pretty p!$$ed so stomped ahead of him and the dogs all the way up the hill. Finally cooled off enough to let him approach and to pick up Tumble’s leash. I’m ashamed of myself for losing my temper and souring what had otherwise been a pleasant adventure, but still a little mad as my arm still hurts. :rage::cry: Grr.

Debbie and Rita I'll post the BB&B video links tomorrow.
Katla So glad procedure/all came out well. I’ve never watched, always slept through it. Really glad your pooch has stopped panting. Will post a pic of Joe’s mask later, maybe tomorrow.
Pip your charming house will fly off the market! Well done! Nice looking neighborhood too!
Amber ((hugs)) for your family, prayers for your worker and thanks for the videos. On the food prep one does she freeze those meals?
Machka the “you know you are stressed…” meme made me choke on my water. Felt the same way about my first colonoscopy. ;)
Lanette culinary sage is doing fine here, overwintered and came back. Get’s leggy if I let it. Flowers a pretty blue/purple and love the scent. All my herbs in the ground (rosemary, thyme, parsley, oregano, sweet marjoram, rose geranium) are surviving, which is a miracle considering how I neglect them. The basil in a 4 “ pot that I pinched is putting forth tiny new leaves. The Thai basil, also in a 4 “ pot is hanging on by a thread.
Tracey the Canada video made me smile. Thanks, I needed that!

Debbie in Napa, Like Michele said, the bone density test is a scan. You lie on a table and a big machine scans your body. I wasn’t claustrophobic, you’re not surrounded by a tube, just this big machine that scans back and forth a few times. In and out in 15 mins or less.
Karen in VA what you said to Debbie about the mask. ((hugs)) your herb boxes.
    Okie love your lawnmowers ;)

Line dancing did lift my spirits, but now I’m pooped, so off to bed. Will sum up June sometime tomorrow.

Buying and selling real estate. I have bought 1 house and 2 studios and sold one house. Buying the house, I made an offer of 9% less than asking price, a rather common amount and percentage etc, in the area and at the time. It was (and maybe still is) common to ask 10% more than expected expecting a negotiation : the buyer offers 20% less and then you even out at 10% less, a "deal" for all. I knew I could only get so much financing, and was from out of town, quite far away, so I made the offer of 9% less straight away telling him that I couldn't get more and that I could have made a lower offer and wait for a counter offer to "split the pear in two" is said in French, but to save time, and cut to the chase, I was going straight to what I could offer. He asked what my salary was (I think or maybe I told him) and here they have fairly strict lending rules: you can only have about 1/3 of your salary in monthly credit reimbursements, otherwise credit is hard or often impossible to get. And he said yes, that's true you won't be able to borrow more. He was not in lack of money, and seemed happy to sell it thus. I think it had just come on the market and wasn't even advertised and I happened to pop by an agency who had the photos, and sent me to look a the place and meet the seller without even accompanying me as it was Saturday afternoon deep into the summer. Deal done very quickly. I had looked around for ages before finding it and was coming to end of time and patience was being more selective about what I looked at and I knew it was a good solid deal. Very good quality (quality walls+ roofs, basic needs there already), well-located, lovely view, nice village, fixer-upper. Selling it took a while but when I got an offer we did the split the pear in two thing. The market was up and he asked about 10% down and I think I could have stood firm cause they really liked the place, but splitting the pear in two his offer was good and it was done quickly, once the right person came along. He was 70 and had family from this village and was enchanted in moving back there. Very down to earth people.

Buying 2 studios in paris. I also knew the market very well. You have to go visit immediately to get a good deal, and be the 1st or 2nd to offer, very often at asking price. I was 2nd to offer on 1st one, and the 1st person backed out the day after making an offer so I got it. I was 1st to make an offer for the 2nd one, too. Both were good deals.
