If you are new to posting on this thread, or if you are new to cycling, we welcome you! If you are returning from a previous thread, we welcome you, too.

This thread is for anyone who rides a bicycle ... or unicycle, tricycle, tandem, etc.

Do you bike to work? Do you pull your children to the park? So you ride weekends? Do you spin at home or in the gym? Is Zwift your thing? Do you race crits, ironman, or centuries? Or, are you just starting out and remembering how much fun you had biking when you were a kid? However you choose to push your pedal, you are welcome on this thread.

There's no set challenge across participants - this is a mixed-ability / mixed-experience / everyone welcome group.
Just pick your own target that you want to achieve this month, post that when you join the thread, and post updates throughout the month as you're working towards your target.

Given the current situation many of us will be cycling solo or indoors ... share your accomplishments with us. :)

    Goals for August:

Strava 7,500m climbing challenge (10% done so made a start)

Gran Fondo - at least one and if the COVID situation continues to improve in my area I'll start refuelling during rides (I've only done home to home or car to car rides so far this year to minimise contact which limits my range.)
I'd like to be ready for Century rides if/when organised events restart this year.

FTP test - if a rainy day and rested legs happen to coincide.

Goals for August - get some racing in while I can! The season ends in September anyway, and we're a bit too close to areas with tighter restrictions for comfort at the moment. Also hopefully a long weekend away somewhere hilly.

Yesterday was a turbo day (2 hours on Zwift) but today I got out for 120km. Although my oh is a cyclist, we normally ride separately other than when we're on holiday as he wanted to ride faster than me, and I'm fine riding solo. Anyway, after our last holiday (and me beating him comprehensively at Thursday's time trial), he said he'd ride with me today as we both had similar routes planned. He was really struggling and I dropped him on the hills :-o after a couple of hours he decided to head home via a more direct route while I carried on. He thinks it's a bit of fatigue, but I can't remember ever being so much stronger than him!

    In May I reached ~125km with a 100km goal, June 180km with a 150km goal, July ~210km with a 200km goal. So new goal for August: 250km?
I have no idea honestly if I can manage that, since I'm going on vacation for 2 weeks :-) No long distance travel to exotic places, obviously, but two weeks in a camping car a few hours away from home, together with my sister. We're planning on hiking, canoeing and hopefully also a bit of cycling. My sister only rides a bike about once per year when we are on vacation together somewhere. We did a 44km ride last year, and 40km the year before. This year I can probably get her to add one or two more shorter rides as well.
Still, I'll be "missing out" on ~100km of commute rides during the vacation, which means I need to find some time to do an extra ride during the first or last week of the month.

Work is gonna have me all mixed up this month. Will be out of town for two weeks of work, and won’t be able to take my bike like I have been able to☹️👎🏻

    8/4:
    Morning ride: 16.19 miles
    Running total: 31.85 miles
    Left to goal: 283.15 miles

Has been cool (mid 70's) the last 2 mornings and that has made for enjoyable rides. Unfortunately, the cool front is pushing out so the temp will be climbing for the rest of the week.

    8/5:
Morning ride: 1.5 miles riding, 1.5 miles walking... Got 1.5 miles from the house, stopped at a traffic light and when I went to kick off from the light, pop, friggin' chain comes apart. Good news is that I only had to walk it back the same 1.5 miles.

Today's hot and humid ride included a couple of laps of Richmond Park, one of the Royal Parks dotted around London.

The deer were seeking out shade and leaving "mad dogs and Englishmen to go out in the midday sun".
