How has losing weight changed your life?

I restarted my quest for a healthier lifestyle 6/19/20. Since then I have lost 35 lbs. with a lot more to go, but I feel less lethargic, better frame of mind and my cloths are fitting like they should have been fitting me all along. I am even wearing clothes that were too small. In looking through my closet for something to wear to a birthday party, I found several dresses I had brought with the tags still on them. The little black number fit just perfectly. My best friend said my whole attitude has improved. I hadn't realized that my disposition was on a downward slide. I smile more and interact more with people.19

@seltzermint555 Yahoo! Your wit and food ideas helped me so much along way.4

I lost nearly 120 lbs and kicked Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension. I just got infected and tested positive for Covid 19 last week. I am healthier and smaller now that I was at 12 years old. I am at the peak of my health and fitness right now. Every medical professional I have talked to about this said if I had not gotten healthy, I would be experiencing much worse symptoms. I have been very open and honest about my experience with Covid in hopes that people will take my story to heart and use this as motivation for improving their own health.42

I think I’m coming out of my shell.
I was always one to strike up conversations in lines, but people were generally just polite, tolerable, and cool to Obese Me.
Now people either engage in return, or they strike up the conversation first, which is kinda new and kinda nice- although it does annoy and hurt since I’m still the same person. They’ve never met or seen me before, so clearly it was the weight that was the denominator.
I’ve got more confidence. I actually catch myself strutting on my walk to/from gym or yoga studio sometimes, because, dammit, I earn the right to every day. And I feel like people look at me and wish they were me. For so many years, that was me, looking at them and thinking “if I only could lose some weight.....”.
I’m nicer, I’m more relaxed, I’m happier, definitely healthier, I’m eager to try new things, and so full of energy it’s scary sometimes. Sounds corny, but a shining joi de vivre I lacked before. I keep expecting it all to run out and have a crash.
The next thing to do is to work on this painful shyness. Thank god for anonymous forums where we can pour ourselves out to strangers, right? ;-)33 -

Aww thank you! This made my day. I haven't posted on these forums in a long while, got a bit sick of them...but wow!

I just plain feel better about me. I had got to the point where i didn't care what i wore.. no enthusiasm with life. I did not realize i like to buy clothes.. maybe to much. but best part is being able to go down the slide with my grandkids at the park and just enjoy life more.15

I feel much better within my skin. A big part of that is the confidence that succeeding brings and the healthier food and more exercise. Thinking that I used to not always get my 5 a day is mad.
I have more energy in general and just feel better mental health wise. Although some of that work started pre losing weight.10 -
I was actually JUST thinking (minutes before logging on) that I don’t feel nearly as frumpy now! My oldest is 13, plus 3 more children close behind him... I was starting to be quite self conscious about myself around them, their friends, and their friends parents. Also, I was on the sidelines, watching life go by. Now? I am running miles and miles, completing sprint triathlons, and overall I can keep up with them. I jump on the trampoline, I can play b-ball, we had a family ultimate frisbee game last night. I move easier and overall don’t feel as clunky in my own body.19

People look you directly in the eyes. I think that road runs both directions. If you feel better about yourself it shows on your face and in your walk. People sense just like a dog that you're open for communication. How we feel about ourselves affects every area of our life. On the job, relationships, everything.
You no longer hide in your house, vehicle or behind the desk. Connection matters. There are so many missed opportunities in life without connection. I do admire the people here who were willing to show me the way. Seeing is believing.

Your energy is contagious. People want it. 2020 has kicked everyone in the rearend. To see someone fighting through whatever life throws at them is brave. Energy begets energy. Mark Twain - And what is a man without energy? Never argue with an energetic man they will beat you down with experience.9

My confidence has also improved a lot. It wasn't the weight loss itself or bodily changes that did it (although it didn't hurt!) but the act of caring for myself and making my health and well-being a much more important part of my life. I realized how nice it felt to put myself first, and how people actually respond more positively to you when you respond more positively to yourself.23

That’s very well said, Rel.8 -
I think if I were to try and detail all the ways I would make a post so long that even some of the more verbose posters like @AnnPT77, @PAV8888, and @lemurcat12 would tell me to shut up.
The changes are dramatic and so epic that I feel like I am 8 years old again and every day is Christmas.29 -
my body not hurting so much. breathing is not a hassel.i've gained agility which i love. I'm not sleepy all the time.
just more energy in general.9 -
Gaining weight changes your life more than losing weight. When you lose your weight...you feel like yourself. The old young you that you thought was lost. Is found.17

@springlering62 Your new profile pix is beautiful. I like it.3

Okay, the obvious ones first - way better health (I was borderline high bloodpressure and borderline diabetic and now both is fine and I don't have to take any meds). Feeling all around more stable and happy. When life throws me a curveball, my before-reaction would've been to cry and eat snacks. Now I'm more like "Well, let's face it and do something". I just have way more energy.
But I'm also more relaxed.
I don't have to be so hyper-aware of my surroundings anymore - I can just sit in a chair or even crosslegged on the ground or on the edge of a table, which would be impossible before.
What I enjoy most is super vain though. When I visited people before my weight loss I would always (always!) keep an extra change of clothes with me. It had happend to me in the past that I ruined a shirt or a pair of pants (or wasn't dressed warm enough) and people offered to lend me something, but of course, NOTHING would fit me. It was mortifying and I hated it.
This summer we visited the in-laws and I had dressed too warmly so my mother-in-law offered to lend me a pair of shorts. And I smiled and said yes and I didn't even worry about it - because I knew it would just fit. I basically fit into anything now.
Okay maybe not a size 4 or smaller (but hey, I guess a pair of comfy size 4-sweatpants might look like leggins on me, but I just might fit in), but most of the times I'm reasonably sure that almost any clothes will fit me and are most likely too big and not too small.
Summer in general used to be terrible for me. I hated showing my legs and would always sweat miserably in jeans. I didn't even own short pants and I would basically try to hide inside. Now I just throw on a pair of shorts or a skirt and I'm good to go. Also no chub rub anymore!
Of course I'm still human and I have bad days and life might be stressful or terrible - but everything feels easier to deal with since I've lost weight. In retrospect I think my bodyweight was just ... crushing me. It made it impossible for me to enjoy things (I would always be SO self-aware of every little jiggle and every roll and just how BIG I was and I hated it) and it made dealing with other things on top of it incredibly hard and almost impossible.
Now I feel just... lighter. I lost the weight two years ago and I still enjoy this light feeling every second of the day.22 -
My mindset has completely changed and this has affected my life on all levels.
I've gained confidence, and I suddenly find myself doing all the things I never thought I could. I value and love myself and I find myself suddenly unwilling to let others treat me poorly, or allow toxic people into my life.9 -
Thank you all so much for sharing!
Now that I'm 21 days into my journey, I am already starting to feel the positive effects
Y'all are very inspiring!4 -
It has shown me very clearly who matters.
I'm not out for compliments, don't care if people mention my weight loss or not (41lb), but it has been mildly upsetting to see people I thought were at least casual acquaintances if not friends, go completely out of their way to avoid me or ignore me. I don't understand it at all, I'm still the same person but at the same time thankful I've been shown the people that truly deserve my time.16
