09/18 203.6 okayyyy. No stairs today besides up and down from my walk-up to take the dog out a few times, but I stayed well under my calories even with a couple of glasses of cava. 🥂
09/19 202.2 oh man. I like that. I'm baking a chai apple pie today (also making some szechuan chicken legs and a carrot-apple-walnut salad with yuzu curry dressing 🔥🔥🔥) but I have my portions all figured out and prelogged, so let's do this! 🏄‍♂️
09/20 201.0 this is probably some retained water shedding from my intense workouts last week, but I'll take it. We coooked so much delicious food yesterday and I stayed in my calories mainly by having sleep for dinner 👼. Today I'm making some turkey meatballs and waiting to see how bad tropical storm Beta gets us. It actually feels like fall this morning! I'm sure the air will feel like a fart again by afternoon. 🌬

09/14 – 177.3 – A good start for the round! I got in my 3 goals yesterday – calories, steps and water
09/15 – 177.2 – Just a squeak down, but still in the right direction.
09/16 – 178.4 – I had an incredibly rough day yesterday and got take-out at the end of the day. I’m feeling better and time to get back on track.
09/17 – 178.4 – Still holding onto water from the take-out. I’m back to logging and stepping, but vacation is just around the corner. I won’t be weighing then but trying to we careful with what I eat.
09/18 – 177.6 – I managed to weigh my meals, log everything and get my steps in yesterday.
09/19 – 177.2 – Due to the tropical storm/hurricane, we’ve had to reschedule our vacation. So maybe I can manage to be a hair down by the end of this round.

09/14 - walking 5k.

09/15 - weigh day 96.7! Mini GW1 accomplished. Now just need to keep it in the 96.x till the end of the challenge. Not sure if it will work since it must be water fluctuations.

09/16 - raining day, but you would be surprised how many steps you can get in the supermarket It was a bit too crowded but we tried to go in and out. 5K steps and groceries are in!

09/17 - It is surprisingly hard to combat curiosity and *not* get on the scale every day. It has been to discouraging before so I am trying something new. 2 more mornings to go! Better weather today but still slacker on activity

09/18 -96.1 the curiosity got to me and the scale shows way too low number. This will bite me with stalling later on will try skipping tomorrow's weighing day to not be disappointed. And enough is enough! Started with a 5k walk this morning.

09/19 -weigh day (to be cancelled). 7k hike. S bit of food splurging in the evening but nothing to major

09/20 - weekend washing the apartment. Learning to listen to my body and realize I can easily compensate for yesterday's splurge today since I am not that hungry. Maybe it also has to do with the fact that the splurging was not full of unhealthy foods but just more higher calories one (nice tasty high fat cheese for example)

Weird eating day yesterday as DH wanted pizza (veggie) for lunch. I kept my calories reasonable, but ate later than planned (wasnt hungry at supper time, but I was later). Probably same today with leftover pizza, but I’m planning my day better. @quiltingjaine, I’m reading Life in the Fasting Lane and am thinking of trying it. Actually no snacks between dinner (we eat early) and breakfast pretty much does it, I think. We shall see. Off for a walk.

9/15 - 182.8 - 1756 - snack 🍨
Today’s the day. Cutting refined carbs as much as possible, starting with a cheese omelette for breakfast instead of cereal. I had ice cream last night and savored it as my last indulgence until I drop at least 20 pounds. I’m making salmon salad for lunch — yummy with broccoli slaw. If I fill up on protein, fat, and veggies 🧀🥚🍳🥦🥕🥒🥬, I shouldn’t crave snacks later. This time I mean it. I feel ready, if that makes any sense. Also, I refinished a dresser over the weekend — got it cheap, banged up. Here it is now.

Two days in a row without snacking. Yay! I was really hungry last night watching a movie, but I held out. I know partly that’s trained hunger that will pass eventually. Onward!

A minor slip. A friend in coming for late breakfast in the garden, and wanted a Panera Bread bear claw. DH wanted an Asiago bagel. I made the Panera run and got Greek yogurt with mixed berries For myself. Is my halo all nice and sparkly or what?

9/19 - 182 - 1546 - no snacks, but late dinner because other meals were late.
Delayed reaction from Thursday, I’m sure. Beautiful weather here — sunny and 60s. I’m going to relocate some plants, the go for a long walk along the river.

Not too bad yesterday, considering I was really down. I wanted to eat my way through, but didn’t, other than 1 oatmeal raisin cookie (77 cal) and a half cup of ice cream. DH made a pot of fabulous 15-bean soup for dinner and to freeze. I don’t really like bean soup, but this is delicious! Anyway, today I’m trying to busy my way out of depression. Have a good Sunday, all.

Ten Day Challenge


9/15 and getting stronger. Love this challenge....I start my day with weighing (use a Withings and heart rate monitor to track). For four months - a day at a time- I have not deviated from my lifestyle plan (spiritual, mental, and physical). Last month I lost nine pounds, but for the last two weeks (with a continuing 900+ calorie deficit daily and no eating back my exercise calories) I've continued to hover at 195. The science says this is not possible, so I've reviewed the charts and reflected on daily goals. I've kept my fat at 10% and continued with the deficit I'm trusting the process. The good news is my muscle gain is gently rising as my fat is slowly descending on the chart. I'm also seeing more strength and energy during my workouts. Yesterday, I had the best workout in the last four months of this journey. I'm welcoming this challenge as a new strategy to confirm that I will meet my goal of being out of the 190s by the end of the month. Best wishes to each of us....by staying in the moment making consistent daily positive choices towards health (on all levels) we will reach of goals! Thank you @ Grandma Jackie for this opportunity!

9/16 and maintaining fierce dedication to my lifestyle!!! I'm learning patience is a strategy for success. I'm slowly gaining strength/energy which is a priority. I know the weight loss will be certain throughout this journey. Today I received the kettlebell that was ordered and looking forward to adding it into the fitness routine. Grateful for this opportunity and wishing everyone success with their daily goals.

9/17 and still noodling around the same weight. I'm donning my warrior gear and choose to look at the positive side of this odyssey....getting healthier, getting stronger, not gaining fat, mental strength, patience. So am I doomed to be the strong fat girl! I'm keeping my calories at a 900+ deficit and eat nutrient dense meals that are wholesome and filling. I'm increasing my fitness regime in monthly increments. I log in daily so aware of my calories, macros/micros, and all the biometrics on the Withings scale. I"m keeping the faith and will reflect at the end of the month. In the meantime, I'll be diligent, kind, and a bit self indulgent with scented epsom baths, the luxury of deep sleep, watching my garden grow, and letting my body know that I am safe and happy so there is no survival need to hang on to the chunkiness. Congratulations to all those that are successful and wishes for patience and knowledge that we will be joining their ranks for the rest of us. Just takes time....and when I think of where I was 6 months ago, I know that I can fly. Just have to let go of the weight holding me earthbound!

9/18 and a 17 day plateau has been broken! I woke up this am grateful for another day on this earth but thinking I really need some validation that all this work is making a difference after 17 days of bouncing between 194.7-195.2. Hang in there for all of you that are frustrated ....it will! I felt a hip bone last night and have lost an inch in my chest (oh well, it is just part of the overall plan and I'll take it where ever it occurs). I never allow myself to get hungry and usually stop eating between 5-6:00. Last night I had a bit of an appetite and had calories left to consume. So I picked the most colorful plate in the cupboard and filled it with fresh chopped cauliflower, grape tomatoes, celery, red bell pepper, and radish. I sprinkled Table Tasty and drizzled Bragg's apple cider vinegar dressing (without olive oil) over the festive plate. This is one of my go-to snacks and I still maintained my 900+ deficit for the day. So satisfying, tasty, and chock full of nutrition....love eating this way! Because I ate later than usual, I was set to receive the same old - same old when I faced the scale. But the science won out....finally a break through! So happy to report good news...but I know I need to maintain a balanced approach. There will be up days and down....the downward trend is bound to happen if I just stay the course. Wishing every one a day filled with joy and making the right choices for you. The magic will happen!

9/19 and there are just. no. words. I stayed the course anyway, finding it a challenge to engage in enthusiasm. The deficit I maintain everyday is suppose to result in a 2 pound/week loss. Let's see what happens tomorrow. I'm always looking for the pony in the pile, and there is a bright spot. I received my new Fenix Garmin and it is amazing!

9/20 and I'm down again and out of the dreaded 195er plateau. I've spent time in reflection comparing this month
's nine pound loss and last month's inability to lose. Three observations:

Last month even though I stayed within my daily calorie budget, I usually ate the full 1055 allotment. Imade
my own salad dressings and that is where I would consumed my fat for the day...nuts or a tablespoon of
seeds in the dressing, or some avocado in the salad. In September, I have been fierce about staying at 10%
in my macros with no overt fat.

I discovered Walden Farms Dressing and went against my principle of eating only whole foods. My
body is not used to processed foods and has never consumed artificial sugar (aspartame - the worst). I've
experimented this month without using the zero fat Walden Farms twice this month and each time I
dropped weight. Maybe just a coinsidence, but this was the only food difference between the two months.

When fasting (both water/juice) in the past I didn't experience lengthy plateaus. My body goes into
atophagy and the energy that was spent on digestion went into healing. I had no hunger pains after the
first 10 days and any plateaus were short-lived. Because I am not fasting now, my body is expecting food,
with the lower amount of calories my body is storing the fat. This would account for the reluctance to
release the pounds. This month frequently my calorie restriction of 998 has been higher.

Because of these three observations, I'm taking the following actions. First, I am discontinuing the Walden Farms Dressing, I'm going to eat the full amount of calories (1055) that are designated to release two pounds per week, and three, I will incorporate my allotted fat for the day back into my salads/dressing.

This adventure is a learning process and I'm willing to be flexible if the current path is not working. Not easy...but I'm sure the rewards will be worth the journey. Staying the course with minor changes. None of this may apply to you as our bodies are different and we each have our own experiences. I'm just sharing my path because I've learned so much from others so, as a usually private person, I'm willing to participate and, at the least offer words of encouragement. I'm sure we can be successful if we are willing to persist when the challenges come.

09/16 …..211.3 ….. Wonderful news after travel! When I am super low carb, even a small regular meal can put 3-5 pounds on me after travel so I was quite shocked to see a loss. Its very nice, but I know that “regular meals” do not help my diabetes. Only the lower carb ones so I’ve got to eventually go back to finding a balance. I will have to back out slowly (while backing back IN to low carb) to try to avoid those huge sugar drops. I’m formulating my plan. Horrid night last night. I didn’t get to sleep until after 8:00 this morning. My personal and business stresses and situations really got to me last night but I avoided overdoing the bad snacks so I am proud of myself!

09/17 …..210.8 ….. Yay! I didn’t drink enough water yesterday but peed a lot. Goodbye bloat!

09/14: 170.6 (down 1.0 lb from yesterday) Another great running day yesterday, yay for fall! Calories were a little low yesterday, I think caused a headache and bit of nausea around bed time. Need to be better today with making sure I am eating enough of the right things to fuel my body properly.

09/15: 170.1 (down .5 lb from yesterday) Yesterday was my daughter's 1st day of high school (fully remote learning), so we ordered in pizza (her favorite) for dinner. I weighed mine on the food scale and had 2 slices with a salad and stayed in a deficit. Success! Husband is home for dinner tonight, so I am cooking family meal this evening and then we are having friends over to social distance outside so today will not be AF. I've pre-logged 3 drinks, but hopefully plan on just having 2. Going for a run on my lunch hour, which will be much needed with the extra calories planned for today. Will still be in a deficit, just on the higher end of my calories, so I might see a bump up on the scale in the next 1-2 days, but I am okay with that. Super close to being under 170!

09/16: 169.2 (down .9 from yesterday) Under 170!!! Now need this to stick and then keep on dropping:)Yesterday was a good day....went on a run with my husband, made a yummy family dinner, & then enjoyed drinks with friends (while social distancing). Downside of drinking last night, woke up super, crazy hungry which normally does not happen when I am fasting. Also due to drinking last night, my fast started later than normal, so not sure I will get the full 16 hours today, but will at least go for 14 hours. Will be drinking lots & lots of water this morning.

09/17: 172.4 (up 3.2 lbs from yesterday) No, I did not gain 3.2 lbs in 24 hours! Woke up yesterday with an very bad allergic reaction, arms covered in hives, so had to go on a quick round of steroids. When I take these I immediately bounce up around 5 lbs if not more. Not a real gain and will drop right back down and soon as I finish the medication. So I knew this was coming this morning. It's annoying but not discouraging, will keep on doing what I've been doing.

09/18: 172.2 (down .2 from yesterday) Still dealing with allergic reaction and steroids causing elevated weight

09/19: 172.4 (up .2 from yesterday) A couple more days left on steroids, so won't be seeing the scale drop until then. Gorgeous fall day here, was 58 degrees on my run today! Perfect running weather

09/20: 172.4 (no change from yesterday). Last day of steroids, hoping to see a drop on the scale tomorrow! On plan today another run in great weather and husband is home today, so cooking family meal tonight.

I'm not eating terribly, but I'm been pretty stuck at home for more than a week with the wildfires (VERY unhealthy air). As if COVID-19 wasn't enough! I'm still weighing in every day. I'm still trying to eat the best that I can. Until the air gets better, exercise really isn't a healthy option. For now, I'm just trying to maintain.

9/18: 225.4 (-0.4)/19.1 (0.0). I had takeout for lunch (I went in to work yesterday), and I had Thai food: it was an amazing cut of beef with lots of steamed vegetables and a little rice. I could have easily finished it (even if I was uncomfortable), but I saved half of it for dinner. My brother-in-law and his girlfriend are coming over tonight to watch the Laker game. We're going to have a "Scotch flight" set up (a gift from me to my wife), but I will stick with hard liquor tonight (not more than three ounces, I think). I'm going to try to get some exercise in today (some pull-ups and push-ups at least).

9/20: 224.2 (-1.4)/19.0 (-0.1). I was a little "snacky" last night, but overall I did okay. I've been pretty frustrated lately with my recent ups and downs, but I'm REALLY good MOST meals. Not just most days. Even on a day when I would say I'm "off-plan," I'm STILL mostly on-plan. I feel like I'm working pretty hard; I'm just hoping that the scale starts to agree with me a little more often. Air quality here is still terrible; I want to get back to exercising ASAP.
