@katharmonic – loving the pictures from Seward Range. Ice on the trail already? I can’t imagine why none of your hiking buddies didn’t want to run with you! Lol!
@HonuNui – I bet that was a very emotional race for you. Hugs!

Love the pictures @katharmonic! We also went on a hike this weekend. 12 miles Friday & 8 miles Saturday.
Ours was a very flat out and back in Arkansas, Eagle Rock Loop. Only 800ft elevation gain when the hike a few weeks prior was 4000ft elevation gain. That is a lot for us !
I hope everyone has a nice day!3 -

Speed work this morning. We are getting a little warm weather this week, so it was already 70F when I went out at 7am. And super foggy. I kind of like running in the fog. It feels creepy but not in a scary way? I don't know how else to describe it.
Went climbing last night. I've been trying to train a bit to strategically improve my climbing. I've hit a point where I probably won't naturally improve much just by climbing unless I also train my weak points. So, I did climbing endurance. I climbed up and down a 40 ft wall twice without coming off at all. So a total of 160 ft of continuous climbing. And another round on a slightly shorter wall for another 120 ft. My forearms were yelling at me but they feel better this morning. I'm feeling like I have not only regained my lost ground from quarantine but am actually getting stronger. It's a nice feeling.8 -

@WandaVaughn RunningLane is getting ready to put out another challenge maybe that will help. How about the trail Cathedral Cavern runs the second week of November, they are in person.
@Avidkeo I’m sorry you’re having a longer road to recovery than expected
@katharmonic once this pandemic is over I’m coming to visit you and run/walk/hike/take pictures, beautiful pictures
@HonuNui hugs
@BeverlyW1108 great hike, that’s quite a difference 800 from 4000
I had to be at work before 7:30 this morning so was up at 4:15 instead of 5:00 to get in my miles. I spent the summer getting my mileage up and I’m happy where I am, but one of my goals was to get back to easily doing 10 min miles. My 6 miles this morning was 12:36 which is about 2 minutes faster than I was doing shorter distances at a few months ago so I’m headed in the right direction there too.

@HonuNui - I was thinking of Steve when I ran on the 17th and of you and how hard it must be every year 💔
@mbaker566 - Finn is adorable and looks so happy!
@ContraryMaryMary - Have a fun running weekend! It sounds awesome!
@katharmonic - Gorgeous pictures! I am living vicariously through your hiking exploits and pictures but pretty sure I would not be running in the middle even for 15 mins after hiking for hours and hours!
It is finally a bit cooler here and that little bit made a big difference yesterday! I had a little bit of an upset stomach so decided to run to the bathroom that isn't close to the turnoff for home to give myself a little extra mileage. Unfortunately there was a crowd of homeless people and no chance I was getting in. So... then had to run to the other end of the trail to the bathroom there. It isn't that far but it was a very long 1.5 or so mile! The run home felt great though 😂
We had agility last night and it was Halloween costume contest picture night. Hobbes did his Green Bay Packers proud even if they played terribly on Sunday. He is ready to go help!

Glad you made it to the bathroom @shanaber . Hobbes makes a really cute Green Bay Packer.0
-
@shanaber the picture of Hobbs is a keeper ha ha! How far the bathroom room is directly related to how bad you need to go.3
-
@shanaber Oh Hobbes! So cute! He would make a good receiver for Aaron!
And yah let's not talk about Sundays game 🤣1 -
Calf feels good today. Its definitely recovering faster now from every twinge, so that's good. Today was a walk. I was on call for work last night and got basically no sleep, so have the day off. I walked the kids to school, the. Went the long way home. Now I'm in bed and will try sleep later this afternoon.
Bike again tomorrow, run Friday with physio that night. Hoping to add another running day!8 -
I planned my route to be on mostly back roads, fields, and forest this morning, because the mask is no fun and I pull it down when there are no people in sight. 14 km at a relaxed pace.
I was gonna have you all guess the crops again, but you can't see them very well.Broccoli!!!
I believe they harvest them by hand.
I also saw a crew picking pumpkins - the big, ugly pumpkins that make the best pies, and some other random vegetables and things I couldn't identify.
The woods are full of mushrooms, some the size of dinner plates(!), and I leave them all right where they are because I don't know which ones are edible. They look cool.10 -
Cool pictures @polskagirl01 ! Thanks for not making us play the vegetable guessing game. That one would have been hard! I too like to look at mushrooms, but leave them where I find them.2

My husband and I explored the other side of the Wolf River yesterday.
A few days ago after we had run at WC Johnson park I noted one of my flybys wasn’t really on the same path at all but a runner on the other side of the river. There’s a bit of that trail we can glimpse from the boardwalk and I have seen occasional runners and even three wheelers over there, but never knew how to get back there, since there’s no bridge from the WC Johnson side. So I studied her run on the flyby and compared it to Google Earth, and lo and behold, a trailhead with a parking lot!
By the way, since I mentioned it, Strava has screwed up flybys now and they are a thing of the past. What they did was set everyone’s to default to no one else being able to view them, and not tell anyone, so even those people who don’t mind don’t know they are no longer visible. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.
It turns out most of the trails on the far side are gravel, which isn’t my favorite surface to run on, but there are several miles of them and the surrounding land is beautiful. And best of all, except for the park crew doing maintenance work, we didn’t see another living soul the whole time we were there! Since I always feel unsafe due to all the people passing on the trails when we go to WC Johnson it’s definitely a relief to have a whole trail system all to ourselves. We found some memorable things, such as a tiny little metal bridge, and a redneck portapotty down by the fishing hole - an old wooden chair with a hole cut in the seat and a plastic bag taped to the bottom! There was also a lot of horse poop on the trails, which I found out later looking at Google Earth is because the area backs up to a riding academy. We went just under 8 miles and it looks like there’s about at least four miles we didn’t get to.
The wooden railing in the distance is the boardwalk at WC Johnson where we usually run. It feels funny looking at it from the other side of the river!
We are where exactly? Looks like the Boy Scouts forgot a star!
The world’s most overbuilt footbridge.
It was lovely back in the woods!12 -
@polskagirl01 looks like broccoli1
-
@rheddmobile Glad you found the lonely trails to run and explore. Beautiful scenery. Laughed at the redneck port-a-potty.0

I got up super early today so I could run and do a little yoga before work. It was kind of nice. It was even quieter at 5:10 than it is at 5:50. I did have to get up at 4:15, but I think it will be doable. The weather was nice and I had enough time for a 10K plus 16 minutes of yoga.
The new job is going well. It is a lot busier than my old job and I think I am going to like it. I had gotten pretty bored with my job, but since my boss was also a good friend I felt guilty thinking about leaving. So it really has worked out well at least for now. But I am terribly behind on this thread since I don't have a lot of down time at work and I can't use my work computer for personal stuff and I just have my phone. So I thought I would post this and go back and try to catch up with everyone.
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon8 -
@skippygirlsmom and @shanaber you'd be welcome to come hike! I feel pretty lucky to have the opportunity, right now especially.
@polskagirl01 I've seen so many interesting mushrooms on these hikes. I wish I had started taking pictures of them because it would be a cool collection. This time I saw some enormously impressive ones on trees.
@martaindale great job with the climbing training! I haven't been climbing since things shut down in March and I miss it. I'm hoping to go back soon, and probably will over the winter more. I hadn't really thought about a climbing workout like that but what a good idea. I'm sure your forearms were screaming!

And yet another short treadmill warmup run. This time before yoga. I meant to get there earlier, as always. Yoga was very nice, the run was...meh. It's rainy and dreary here and that is sapping my energy, along with the post-hike fatigue.5 -
@mbaker566 My collie will claw through a chain link fence and then come around and knock on the front door.
@polskagirl01 It was kind of fun running with them.
Thanks @quilyeryoyo In my experience so far I think most of the big dogs I have encountered running just want to run with me.
@katharmonic Beautiful pictures!
@shanaber Hobbes is adorable!
@polskagirl01 Those do look cool!
@rheddmobile Looks like a great place to run!
