Personally, I have never been happier or more fit and trim and feeling tuned into the planet than I have after turning 60. Hormones evening out. Drinking less alcohol now. Being free of tampons and stuff doesn't hurt the spirit either : - )8 -
I am Dawn and live in South East British Columbia. I am 60.
My goal remains the same as it has been for quite some time, 16-20 AF days per month.
Wednesday October 14 - AF. I worked out of town for my favourite company today (Foster Grant) and stopped on the way home for a wee trail walk. it was gorgeous with blue skies all day.
Thursday October 15 - AF. I had to do the 6 minute wait 3 times, but it worked. I had to get those 2AF in a row.
Friday October 16 - Drinks. Both of my tenants left to go home for the weekend. Yay. They are awesome guys, but I love having the house to myself. Rainy day, no opportunity to hit the trails, but all good.
Saturday October 17 - AF - Felt like having drinks, but refrained.
Sunday October 18 - AF - Had to get my 2 AF days in a row.
Monday October 19 - AF - My whole day's work got screwed up today because of a technical glitch - containing the instructions. I puttered around, felt like having drinks, but didn't.
Tuesday October 20 - Drinks. Had a great hike after work, came home and did my paperwork and then had a few. It was nice.
Wednesday October 21 - AF - Easy choice, I have a very early and long day on the docket for tomorrow
Thursday October 22 - Drinks. I wasn't going to have drinks because I was so stressed out after a 12 hour ridiculous work day (was out in the field by 5am, yes I had to get up at 4am), and I have been trying to not drink when stressed (even though it helps me). Instead I went out to the trails straight after work with my shoulders all of the way up to my ears. I met a lovely elderly woman who I had a nice conversation with 6 feet apart, then I saw a dog which I beckoned over for a pat, and the owner was like "Dawn?". I looked up and it was an old friend who I haven't seen for many years. We walked and walked and talked, so lovely. When I finally found the trail to my car and came home I was so happy, almost euphoric. Day turned around. I had a nice couple of drinks which tasted and felt really good. Loving how I appreciate them when I have them less now, especially if they are not for stress reduction. I have no doubt that I will hit my target for the month at this point. Really loving drinking less (and eating Ribs less often), my new way of life.
Rolling total: 15 AF days out of 22 days so far.6 -

I haven't had a drink since January 30 2018. I joined this thread on about February 2 2018.
I've saved $5,691.84 by not drinking (according to my Nomo app set at $40 per week's drinking).
It's a good feeling that I'd describe as "dignity" or "prudence" for me.7 -
2 skinny margaritas & then 1 glass of wine with dinner. I did not continue drinking with DH through the rest of the wine bottle nor the additional margaritas he had during the debate and after.
I should've and could've stopped at 1 margarita during HH time ... not sure why I asked him to fix me another when he made my mom one. In the past and moving on.

I am beginning to get a huge chuckle out of knowing a majority of us on here have birthdays in the Fall.
@FeelinFooFoo as I recall you had a Significant Other that would drink alot. Is it still the same situation, does he reconize your need to have control over your intake? I fight it almost every day with my husband. You know we will always support you whether you want to drink less or go completely without. You are a long time and very loved face to us all.
@dawnbgethealthy Your story about meeting up with an old friend while out walking really touched me. I started to tear. I had the same thing happen last December. I was at a holiday outdoor event, moving through the crowd and all of the sudden was face to face with a very dear old friend I had not seen in years. Is there nothing sweeter than to hug someone (when you could) that you had not seen like forever?
I have to admit when @mainelylisa and I got together in September I felt as if I were being punished (not by her of course) because I could not give her a hug. Hugs in my opinion are an important part of life. I can get the vibe of a true hug from someone verses a person that hugs everyone for no known reason. Those hugs are icky to me.

Welcome from our previous page @dhcurtis22. We wish you lots of success in your less drinking journey. 22 pounds shed is a success on its own. Keeping the drink calories away will definitely help you maintain your new weight.

Eight days left for this month. NOT thinking or planning when I can have another allowed drink. Thinking and planning how the heck I will get all my Fall stuff done before it gets to cold to work outside without looking like an Eskimo bundled up.

Oct 1-7: 12ish drinks, 4 AF days
Oct 8-14: 4 drinks, 4 AF days
Oct 15-21: 9.5 drinks, 2 AF days
Oct 22: 5 drinks
It's been a brutal couple of days. I had my appt with doctor to talk about surgery, and he ended up referring me to someone else because 1) my symptoms are atypical and he's not convinced surgery will fix my pain and 2) I have a major vein running directly over one of the discs that they'd have to move, making a normally low-risk surgery much more risky. It's possible that they wouldn't be able to complete the surgery if they couldn't move the vein. It's possible that they'd cut the vein while trying to move it, and I'd bleed out. Up until now, the pain has sucked, but I've had hope it's fixable. Now I'm processing that I might be living in pain and restricted from doing activities I love for the rest of my life. Or that I might die.
My brain's been in an anxiety loop - I keep asking myself if I'd be selfish to still have this surgery, and then picturing my husband's life without me - and the only anti-anxiety "medication" I have is alcohol, so there have been a lot of drinks. I woke up with an appetite this morning, and instead of being full-blown anxious I'm just exhausted. I'm drinking tea, taking deep breaths, and reminding myself that I won't have the full picture until I talk to the referred doctor next week, who happens to be the leading expert on this kind of surgery in the US. I really need today to be a day where I eat and don't drink, wish me luck.6 -

@chocolate_owl I can not even imagine what you are dealing with right now. You do have a a ton of strength, I gathered that from all you have already endured with your health issues.
Try try try not to stress so much. Wait to hear what your Docs best suggestion is. Today my petty little gripes seem even smaller compared to what you are facing. ❤3 -
@chocolate_owl I am sooo sorry that you are in so much pain, and don't have a good solution for it, "yet". I may have missed your posting, if you don't mind me asking, what it the cause of your pain? I will be sending ((( Good Vibes ))) your way.

Ugh... I let my guard down and messed up my AF streak last night, 2 drinks, that I really didn't need. These led to me overdoing dessert after dinner and missing my evening walk. I did get a quick walk in this morning before heading off to work, I allowed my brain to embrace the yucky feelings... such as waking up groggy, bit of a queasy tummy, slight pressure headache, and of course the disappointment in myself for not hitting my 7 day AF goal! It wasn't the kind of talk like when you tell yourself how stupid it was, it was just an analysis to myself.
