Happy New Year!!
I had not visited in a day and have over 150 posts to read and start a new month. The last days of December were quite busy at work. I am so glad it’s a 3-day weekend. It will be good to have an extra day of downtime.
Barbie – Thank you for starting us off to a fresh month and a new year. So thankful to have you to keep us going and moving forward.
Terri – So sorry to hear of your friend’s passing.
Karen – Ha! Love of horses – cracked me up!
Beth – Glad to hear both the installer and the manufacturer are standing behind their product and will resolve the issue with your pool cover.
Allie – Sounds like you are making great progress. One day at a time. Sorry to hear about your daughter’s results.
Margaret – If you are viewing from your phone you should be able to click on the picture and then save to your device. The picture usually saves in a different folder (mine downloads to a folder called FB Downloads) in your phone’s gallery. From there you can share. Or you can screenshot from your phone or other device and copy and paste.
Flea – Praying all is OK with your mom. Many times hospital stays cause disorientation and depending upon age can take quite some time for the person to level out.
Lisa – Yeah – a job a Yellowstone!!
Rita – Big hug to you. Glad you were able to see a doctor. Great job on your 20 for 20 goals. Wish I could say the same – I was at 50%.
DrKatie – Yeah – pin is out!! You must be much more comfortable now.
Sue (WA) – Sending positive thoughts for a quick recovery for DB and DSIL. Slow and steady wins the debt race (not that it is a race). Keep up the good work – it eventually is paid off. I still have some more to go, but it’s getting better every month.
Bananas – The of bad debt I paid off was from October 2018. Oh, how I wish I could pay that total off in a year! I would be bad debt free at this point. 😊
Barbara – TG for the silver lining you found the leak. It’s much like my experience when the neighbor’s water heater burst and was leaking in to my unit. What if I did not need something from the back of my pantry?!
Machka – I can hear your frustration with your situation. Remember, we plan and God laughs. Never predict when or who will pass first. Planned out retirement with Charlie – guess what, that did not happen. So it’s good to plan, but not project too much. You have been doing the best you can with the disability/worker’s compensation situation. Keep at it!
Lisa – So glad you were able to find a perfume you are able to enjoy. Your bonsai is doing great. You would love strolling through the gardens at the Morikami Museum here.
JanetR – So true about the reboot! Glad to hear you have heat.
Scents – I seldom wear but when I do I wear something light. I am ultra-sensitive and have been known to ask people to tone it down in the office. One gal used to spray herself in her cube and would have us all gagging. I finally got her to stop – told her to go spray herself outside.
Whew – Finally caught up in December and January!! 😊 😊
As predicted I am up 10 pounds but am down from the end of 2019. I really let my diet go off the rails from October through the very last day of December. I joined MFP because I realized every time I stop logging the weight slowly creeps back up. I started this new day/new year with logging! Getting back on track!!
I am signed up for gleaning (yes, old news). I am not sure if you all remember a gal from work was interested last year and gleaned with me. We then started working upon a volunteer group at work (then covid hit which hit the breaks on that movement). I emailed her and let her know the days I was going to be gleaning and she will be joining me on the 30th. Afterwards we will visit a farmer’s market owned by one of the farms that allows the gleaning. They have outdoor vendors who sell food, coffee, and fresh squeezed juices. We will be able to socialize while being outside and socially distanced. She was so excited I emailed her – I am so glad I did. She sounded like she was in the same place as me (only darker) and working towards being more positive and grounded.
The sun is just starting to rise so it’s time for me to log off and start my day.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.
SuziQ – SFL
PS: Still thinking about a 2021 word. I have many. Leaning towards: Presence, Gratitude, Grounded, Aware, Extend…..oh, my I can go on and on…..

One of the many little things I need to work on this year is to prepare as much as I can so that if I were to pass away suddenly, my husband wouldn't be completely lost.
One of the things I want to do is to go through this list or something like it. This is an American thing and wouldn't entirely work for us, but it could get us started.
http://ssandifer.com/MyLoveList2015.pdf
Red Cross also has an Emergency Preparation Plan.
https://www.redcross.org.au/prepare
I'm also considering Personal Medical Record Plans, a record of what I do in terms of housework, bill paying, etc., a list of online accounts we have and how to access them, and so on.
I also want to start streamlining things so that it would be easier for us to move if/when we can ... and also for each of us individually to deal with should the other person become unable to help.
Now that I'm finished uni, I think this is the year to work my way through all this stuff. I guess the goals are to make things a bit easier for us and peace of mind.

Work tomorrow.
Pip – what did you do????
Viv – when we take down the trees depends, really, on the weather. Like it’s supposed to be nice on Mon and Tues, we’ll probably start taking down the outside decorations. Now if it was cold, we’d probably start taking down the inside decorations. Last year the inside decorations were left up (not all of them) until we came back from FL. Speaking of the trees: I’ll try to post pics of them here since not everyone is on Facebook
Oh to be able to get back to decent eating. No more stress eating for a while. I had some M&M’s that I would just “grab and go”. I’m sending those back with Jess and Colby. I saw them eating them on ice cream (of course, I can’t send ice cream back with them) so I’ll give that to them. I don’t need the temptation. A friend gave me some biscotti that she made. Really, we don’t care for biscotti. I won’t tell her, but I’ll probably wind up throwing it out.
Oh, goody. I have a 1 day streak according to MFP. Maybe they’re setting things for the new year???? Yea, right.
SuziQ – that’s one reason I don’t set a goal. “To make God laugh, make a plan”
I gained a few pounds over the holidays but I’m sure they’ll come off. I’m not even 140. I know one year I was.
I have a sneaking suspicion that after Jess graduates, she and Colby will get married. Just from the way they act sometimes. Who knows, maybe I’m wrong.
Well, I’m going to try to post some of the trees.
Michele NC
First is the Frosty Friends tree
I made that tree skirt
Next are the kitchen trees. I made that tree skirt. Also strung the popcorn (as you know)
Next is our main tree. I made that tree skirt
Next is a tree Vince's mom made
I don't want to overwhelm MFP so I'll post pics of the other trees in another post.

The other trees are all videos. How can I post a video?

I stopped setting goals for the month and started making resolutions after I read this from Gretchen Rubin:
You hit a goal, you achieve a goal. You keep a resolution.
I think that some objectives are better characterized as resolutions, others, as goals.
“Run in a marathon” or “Become fluent in Spanish” is a good goal. It’s specific. It’s easy to tell when it has been achieved. Once you’ve done it, you’ve done it!
“Eat more vegetables” or “Stop gossiping,” or “Exercise” is better cast as a resolution. You won’t wake up one morning and find that you’ve achieved it. It’s something that you have to resolve to do, every day, forever. You’ll never be done with it.

Good morning and Happy New Year to all of you.
Thanks Barbie for the new thread and your gracious leadership.
Thanks Carol and Katla for the kind words.
I think my new attitude is to do what I can and be happy with it. The last kerfuffle was over my Dad running out of a prescription, and he took care of it, with minimal help. I worried way too much. The next issue is that my mom wants to take down decorations but my dad wants to wait until January 6th. I'm afraid my mom will try to get on the stepladder herself. But I can't watch her 24/7. I can only do so much, and then I need to stop worrying.
I got more Christmas presents than I bought. So now I'm thinking I should go out and pick up a few more. But I have no idea what to get for these people. And they all are sick right now, and hoping it's not Covid.
Oh well. I have to just let it be for now. Maybe later I will shop online.

Barbie, Thank you again for the new thread and for sharing thoughts and support. I look forward to reading everyday. Often I don't comment but it strikes me how much we all have in common. This group is like a trusted friend and has helped me wind my way through this year.
Tracey, WOW! so happy to hear the facility is moving in the right direction. It has been so scary and just hope and pray that the tests continue to come back negative. Nice way to start off the new year. These last two weeks have been a whirlwind here... I turned 70 and it was wonderful... 4 of our 5 kids called and wished me well. Had great conversations and felt loved. Also got a call from my sister and got extra nice vibes from my DH. Then had my 5 year colonoscopy and had one polyp removed and no cancer. Cool. Had an eye pressure scare but was a non issue. Love my doctors. My DH wore a heart monitor for two weeks and it just got sent back... waiting to hear results so medication can be reevaluated. My sister has been battling diarrhea for six weeks and medication isn't controlling it... but 12/30 her cramping and dizziness stopped and last two days has been loose but not diarrhea. It has been 13 months since she was diagnosed with lung cancer. What a journey.
I appreciate the mention of books and authors on this thread ... it has led me to so many wonderful reads... Thanks for too many to mention... Robyn Carr, Women Rowing North....and so many more.

I woke up this morning to another record breaking snowfall in two weeks. I mentioned that when I built my snowman two weeks ago it was with the thought that this might be "my last chance" to build a snowman. Today I have been presented "a second chance". How apropos is that for the first day of 2021. It reminded me that I have been given yet another year to be the best me possible. I intend to be grateful for each day and each chance given me.
Have a great day my friends and may you look for your second chances

It does seem that if you love all the foods you're putting into a dish, there's a fair chance you'll love the combination. I'm a creative cook, but I only talk about the recipes that work! Some are complete disasters...
I do lots of improvised cooking too. Today for lupper (lunch & dinner) I had salmon & soup made from 1tsp olive oil, 1 large onion, 230 g cauliflower, 270 cauliflower greens, 100g cooked adzuki beans, curry powder and Tamara . I halved it and then added an egg to one have for a big bowl and a half of soup. Nothing dramatic, but It works for me. I liked the slightly bitter cauliflower leaves. I think it's the 1st time i've used them.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2021!!!
My calendar for today says it is time to put Christmas decorations away. Our tree is a living plant and will be transitioned back to the outdoors over the next few days. I don’t know whether I’ll start the move today or tomorrow. I enjoy the lights and they help me cope with the dark days of winter. The tree may be indoors for another day or so. We'll see.
Today is normally the Pasadena Rose Parade, but there isn’t a live parade on TV. They’re showing video from past years and interviews with people who helped to build floats over the years. I hope that we get real Rose Parades in Portland and in Pasadena in the future. It would be great to have a Parade in Portland this year but I have no idea whether that will be possible. Parade possibilities ride upon viable vaccinations for millions of citizens.
Allie: We have cottage cheese for breakfast nearly every day. My grandfather was a cottage cheese maker back in the 1940's. I like to put blueberries on top of my cottage cheese. We’ve also used water packed fruits such as peaches and pears. DH likes pineapple. Once in a while we have eggs & bacon.
I looked up my stats—Today is 3,001 days in a row. This site and this group of women have enriched my life beyond anything I imagined. Thank you Barbie, and thank you all!

Allie - how I wish I no longer wanted sweet things. Sometimes I just get a craving
Betsy – I thank this group for lots of good reads, too
Janetr – love your “second chance”
In order to get a calendar ready for the next year, you know it had to go to the printer at least in September of the previous year. Here is what the last day of Grumpy Cat’s calendar for 2020 said
