I want to say a big "WELCOME!" to any new people that want to join us in this new year. We are a kind and compassionate group of people that are here for each other in various stages of sobriety. Believe me when I say we have heard it all and there is no judgement here. I hope you feel a sense of community here and feel free to join in the conversation.6

Hello guys, I want to say Happy sober free New Year to you all........I dont really ever post, but have read all your posts for months now...........Ruby, best of luck as well, again, I am inspired by your posts and others and really, really , really pay attention to each one and every one. They all remind me of what I used to experience in the past...........its been 1006 days since my last drink and I never ever crave for one.........it will happen, no craving, well....at least for me and I know it will be the same for others

Good morning ! @lloydrt So happy you stopped by. I am so proud of you and I appreciate your thoughtful words for me and all of us. Congrats on another sober New Year's Eve!! It is so nice to wake up clear headed.
Last night, I spent the evening with friends. I had my 00 Heineken. As my friends drank steadily, I saw one go downstairs and bring up another bottle of Crown. I'd say half got drunk out of the 6. But my point is they were very supportive of me and my goals. They know I am sober now.
At midnight, my friend poured me a little bit of champagne in a flute. She said Ruby, I poured you a little. Some might think that was sabotaging but I don't. I actually thought that was thoughtful - she said we poured you a sip. I declined. They can't possibly know that that sip would probably cause a relapse, but they are not alcoholics, so they meant no harm.
@FeelinFooFoo what a amazing celebration last night! Your positive influence caused the two men in your life to be sober. That is a small miracle. I bet today they woke up so proud.

Happy New Year to all my sobriety brothers & sisters, (especially Whit in Vegas, I pray all is well) I hope everyone has a great 2021! Yes, the scale is up a few pounds today, but it was so worth it! Back to the normal routine today. As a former beer hound, I gotta admit Heineken really knocked it out of the park, but I still seem to default to Diet Ginger Ale (without the Jameson now). Whatever works I say! Sometimes you just have to embrace the boredom. Thanks to all of you!5

Thanks @JenT304! I feel proud of my decision to stay the course and I never regret not drinking. I've had more than my share of grief and anxiety lately, but I know drinking would only add to the problems, not fix anything. It hasn't been the easiest road, but I encourage everyone to stay the course. Alcohol free is definitely the way to be!6 -

@FeelinFooFoo good story- and very relevant. I would always turn to booze to take the edge off. Sometimes, I'd come home from work and take a few swigs from an opened wine bottle. Ahhhh that relaxed me instantly.
So, that poor guy was having a bad day and he wanted to get wasted. Don't we all? But we don't.
It is a choice.
On another note, My mom wrote me a lengthy email that she is concerned about my sister's obesity and health overall; my mom wants to help her , give advice, and talk to her about it.
I said you cannot say anything to her really. She knows she's obese and despises it. It gives her low self esteem. I said just offer my sister unconditional love and perhaps deliver some healthy soup to her or some meals, so she doesn't have to grab junk food after a long 12 hour day at work. My sister has been battling addiction to food and alcohol for 40 years ; she is on track with her AF life (over 300 days alcohol free) and now she and I have to tackle our eating issues.
I'm really happy that many of us have chosen to abstain from alcohol. Maybe not for forever, but just for today. We can worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.7
