    Greetings to all.

    Oh, it seems I will never catch up. Near the end of my workday there was a major internet service glitch. Not only did the internet go down but we also lost phone and cable services. A teammate and I were able to text each other. After an hour we were able to make calls. The two major providers have not provided a reason. While this was going on the only thing I could think that had happened was some yahoo blew up a major access point. Yes, that is what living in the US has amounted to for me. I wish I did not feel this way and I pray we make it through the next 100-120 days without incident.

    All that put aside, and sorry about my negativity, everything is going relatively well. I am still working upon being a better meal planner because it is one of the root issues with my weight. This week I am going to go back to pre-packaging my breakfasts and lunches for my workweek. I will say it was easier managing my intake when I was going to the office. If I did not bring it I did not need it. I guess I am getting a glimpse of retirement.

    I am starting on page 24 this morning. Only 20 pages to go! 😊

    Heather – I completely understand your feelings about dogs. I would love one, but there is simply too much commitment in dog ownership. I guess that’s why I have a cat. They are extremely independent, and I can leave the house for long weekends and he is fine. If I am out of town for a longer period I only need someone to check in with him every 3-4 days. Just read your poison post and it had me laughing out loud!

    Tracey – Sorry to hear your cousin’s store was broken in to and to his losses. Hopefully he is insured.

    Bananas – Like you I am struggling with the long-term isolation. So happy to be in the States where we have much more freedom. I have decided to take calculated risks such as staying at a friend’s house this past weekend. I am also going to visit another mid-February (hotel visit). I will say the overnight stay made me feel human again. I honestly do not mind the single life, but this extended period of time has me up and down.

    Barbara – Sounds like you had a wonderful walk with Joe. I would not be able to resist those French toast sticks either!

    Sue WA – Sending prayers for DB and other suffering family members. This virus just spreads like crazy.

    Machka – My first job was babysitting at the age of 12. I had regulars and during the summer I monitored two young girls for a single mom. I would take them to the pool, make lunch, and check in on them if they were playing at home (they were really good girls and the mom just wanted to “be sure” they were not up to no good).

    Viv – Sorry to hear about all of the pain you are in after your fall. Hoping when I read further on you are more mobile. Big hug.

    Feeling much better thanks SuziQ still in pain, but definitely on the mend, just having to take things slowly is all. Was supposed to take mum to have a blood test this morning, but it is snowing and very slushy underfoot so decided to leave it a few days. Don't want her falling over - and I'm still a little wary of bad weather. Roll on spring!

    I love dogs, we've had as many as three at any one time (and 3 cats) but we are now down to 1 cat and 1 dog. I'd love to get more cats, but don't think Maggie our cat would appreciate it, also not sure how Leah would react either. She loved Logan the cat we sadly lost to cancer last year, but for some reason has never really warmed to Maggie. I think they tolerate each other, but sometimes Leah has been known to be a bit "snappy" when Maggie is annoying her.

    We did try to get another dog when we first got Leah, but Leah wouldn't let the poor thing anywhere near her toys her sofa etc she was fine walking with him outside but turned into a little diva when we brought him home. We had to take him back, we didn't think it was fair on the poor dog to be intimidated by her. Maybe we should have stuck it out for a few days, I don't know, but we didn't feel it was worth it, we'd have hated for either of them to get hurt.

    Going back a few pages, I started at the end and worked backwards :)

    @SuziQ113 you are impressive reading back 400 posts! I don't find you negative. I think it's nice to have news about ups AND downs. I mean who has ONLY ups? Pre-prepping meals can be really helpful. so true about how it's easier to be regular in breakfast and lunch when going off to work, for the most part. I would say I'm on the same page as you for not minding being single so much for the most part (my work has me seeing lots of students and also many colleagues- in normal life), but that it's super-isolating for a year and longer like this, and not best for me, overall. And that I am taking calculated risks. Meeting a friend now and then. I am truly not very fearful for myself, and do not have close people much older or in greater risk area. I'm convinced that the mental health of many is in much greater danger, short and long term, for myself and for many. I am also up and down. These past couple of days, I've been eating well, used incombant, no wine (I sometimes have a glass in the evening, very irregularly), tidying, working, relaxing, etc, doing all physical and home things to keep rather well, but I feel a bit out of sorts, from the pure isolation, even if I spent 30 min on phone yesterday and 3h "in class" today...I'm a human and BODY with FEELINGS too, not just a "talking head".

    Well, we did not win the lottery last night, so I patted Corey on the butt and told him he still had to go to work this morning. I don't usually indulge in lottery tickets, and am completely aware of the cognitive dissonance that occurs... namely that most people, including me, feel it's not worth buying a two-dollar ticket when the payout is $100 million, but it's worth it when it's $550 million. Don't care. Sometimes, we all take a chance. And we certainly won't win if we don't buy a ticket.

    Also bought three tickets for Friday's drawing of $720 million. Ha! The odds are only 1 in 302,575,350. The most fun with buying a ticket, of course, is dreaming about what you'd do with that kind of money. So far, the list includes paying off my house, my best friend's house, and some of Corey's sibling's houses. After that, the sky is kind of the limit. Would love to sink about $50k to $60k into this house after we move into a more upscale address. Hey, a girl can dream.

    The dentist went fine yesterday, looked in my mouth after the hygienist finished my cleaning and told me "your teeth are beautiful." Hanging in the air was "for your age," either before or after that phrase, but he didn't say it, so there's that. Tomorrow is getting a mammogram and blood tests. At least it's first thing in the morning and won't ruin my entire day... and it's not fasting blood tests, so I can have coffee. Small things, you know.

    Today is... housework. Dishes done, laundry's done, now for floors.

    Health issues
    I have to redo bone marrow aspiration (hole in sternum :s ) again on Monday because they lost the sample taken in November. WTF! After insisting on phone with doctor he recognised that my case seems to be "precancerous" (which actually, factually seems to mean cancerous but without red alert), meaning early cancer. The microscopic observation of cells (not lost) says, looks like beginning MDS. "MDS used to be classified as a disease of low malignant potential. Now that doctors have learned more about MDS, it is considered to be a form of cancer." I'm not sure if any of the other upcoming tests can do anything but add to the diagnosis. I don't know that any can eliminate. The doctor didn't have the report of one test but when I read it to him, "likely beginning MDS" he agreed that it was probably that, since the people analysing it and writing it, are quite experienced in this type of analysis. It really doesn't look that great, long term, even at this apparent "beginning stage".

    I look forward to finding out more.
    Like if my average prognosis is 8-10 years (I'm 57) with several good years before me, in the first of those, that might impact my work or way of working with: thesis, worker's rights things, life in general. "Long-term financial planning becomes considerably easier. (easier to plan a virtual non-retirement! I can work as long as I'm well or till 67).
    Different than if my life expectancy is 79-94 (possible estimations otherwise, I think statistically reduced by relative isolation from friends this past year and until...).(life expectancy question: how many friends or close family members do you meet with weekly? zero!)

    I was grateful that the DR called me, that he quickly told me about the mistake, that he managed to reschedule a new aspiration very quickly (for Monday), with a person at the hospital he said he knows is very familiar with the process only available on Mondays. (when I was there last time, the two young people taking the test (probably one intern and one other medical person) were asking one another and said they didn't know how to fill in the lab forms!!!) that he eventually recognised the importance of the various bits and points, and that he totally agreed to advance our live meeting from May (!!) to as soon as he gets the awaited results (in theory something like 3 to 4 weeks after next monday- 3 weeks culture is apparently required). He was pretty respectful all in all, which is not always a given.

    Plus other: tooth issue !
    Ok now off to dentist to see about crowns and implant. my other great dentist retired last year and he recommended this guy.now I think my better insurance is in action or will be on feb 1 at latest, and there is no delay period for dental work, thank goodness.

    It's across town on scooter. I so rarely go out of my area these days. it's been months that I haven't been so far, about 30 min from home. Feels almost scary. I feel slightly aprehensive, but usually I enjoy the normality and the change of the scooter ride these days on the now rare occasions when I do take the scooter.

    Like many mostly homebound this past year, I'm slowly getting more into food prep. Looking at an instant pot. What sort- brand, model, do you recommend and what quantity? I tend to make big pots of soup (maybe a couple of quarts, maybe slightly more?. I like making chicken soup and throwing in the whole carcass when there's just one quarter chicken of meet left. chickens are slightly smaller here. In normal life I don't entertain tons, but occasionally. I do like to cook in batches often, and freeze, but live alone.

    Bananas - I have the branded Instant Pot, the 6 quart Duo. Since I bought mine they have brought out many variations, but I find mine perfectly fine for what I want to do. There are umpteen videos and books, plus an app on how to use it. Facebook groups for beginners, keto, GF, weight loss etc. I make my own yoghurt in it. For soups, stews, stock, curries, dried beans, brown rice etc it is great, also boiled eggs, cheesecake, veggies to mash. For me the best thing is the fact that you can set it and walk away and forget about it.
    I highly recommend it.

    after 2 good weeks with very little cane sugar I got a upscale pastry that I usually like. it was a new flavour, but I really liked it much less. I tasted the different parts separately. one little bit I really liked. another part ok, but not mad about, and the another part really not interesting - I tossed half of the tiny part. eating and not eating sugar is really a habit....

    hmmm, dentist recommended by my now-retired dentist. Clearly had high tech equipment, gave me a 3D X-ray in no time at low cost, covered by social security, but he wanted me to come in for 1st crown, before giving me an estimate. This is not normal. In fact we need an estimate for health insurance to take it up. Seemed fine otherwise. I do have an appointment with another next week so I'm gonna keep that appointment too... I've had such mixed experiences with dentists. my last one was great, but have had some not-so-great ones...
