Insanity? Is it good for someone who's obese?

Just wondering if I would be able to even do Insanity. I'm 220 pounds and only 5'2" I have seen the commercials and I KNOW its super intense. I also know that you only do what you can.

I guess my question is... Have any of you that have tried it been obese when you started? Thanks for your help! :0)

I was a little intimidated by it, so I'm doing 30 Day Shred by Jillian first to set up my fitness.

I bought Insanity when I was around 270 lb and completed the first 30 days of the program. It was intense but I modified some of the workouts and still had a great burn. I also saw great results (toning and slimming down -- not necessarily weight loss but I didn't follow his eating plan).

There is a group on sparkspeople that has members doing INSANITY who weigh a lot more. If you are in pain due to being overweight id say to wait otherwise as long as you pace yourself and do not try to keep up you will be fine. I lost 30lbs just so I could start. The weight was putting too much stress on an old back injury. I am doing great now!

I have it in my living room right now...I am at 229 and do pieces of it. I am not doing all of it because I am doing Jillian Michaels. I think if you modify it to fit your workout level you will be just fine. Keep positive about the level you are working out at knowing you will catch up to them eventually. Good luck!

i started Insanity at 200 (5' 0") and yeah it was tough, yeah i had to stop and catch my breath. but i made it through.

I SAY GO FOR IT, dont let ANYONE tell you you can't. go at your own pace. rest when you need,( maybe keep a bucket close for vomitting)

when i start i could not get through the warm up with out taking a break. now i breeze through , and dont take many rest at all, excpet the ones given.

I say if you are up for the challenge do it!! And really just do it! Don't skimp out don't cheat do what they tell you to do. If you need to modify great eventually you will do it. I did Ripped in 90 days which is somewhat like insanity and I was over 200lbs all I know is I felt so AMAZING after 90 days actually 30 days I was AMAZED at what I could do! I am still amazed and I am taking a break from it but I plan to go back to it after the wedding I am in :) 5 inches lost all around from ripped in 90 :)

There are always ways to modify the moves. Also keep in mind, even if you do half the workout or do it at your own pace, it's better than nothing and more than likely, its better than a self made workout plan. If you want something effective but less intense, look into chalean extreme. It's more directed towards women and less intense. If you follow the meal plans and eat plenty of calories you will lose. Another great program to look at is p90x which is more extreme than CLX but less or about the same as insanity.

Keep in mind, if you want the full results, you need to eat the calories. YOu do not want to do the programs and not follow the food plan as you wont get the results. I made the mistake with p90x and went 90 days without results.

If you want to do it, then do it! Yes, it is going to be hard, but do what you can do. It is an intense program, so you ought to see results quickly.

I just purchased Insanity off eBay for like $60. Same thing for P90X. So definitely shop around before you drop the couple hundred buying it from BeachBody.

My wife and I are both on week 4 of Insanity. It is a very intense and INSANE workout. You will sweat! As to whether you can do it is really up to you. I will give you warning, there is A LOT of jumping in it. If you decide to do it, just remember to go at your own pace, you do not have to keep up with Shaun T at the beginning. It is a very fun workout and I love it.

Oh my gosh! Thank you all so much for sharing your stories with me. I'm so nervous/intimidated but I really want a change. I used to be a year round athlete in college..and here....5 years later... I'm where I am! I want that endurance bacK! I want my body back! I want to be able to go anywhere and do any activity and not have to worry if I will be embarrassed if I can't do it!

Thank you thank you! I'm on Ebay searching now !

    Sincerely,

    Tausha

You will not know unless you try. Many people beat themselves up and are defeated mentally before they even make an attempt.
I say give it your best, take short breaks when needed, don't feel bad, even the people in the videos take breaks. You know your body more than anyone else, give it your all, but If you feel the urge to vomit, or pass out, then obviously give it a longer rest. Remember, the goal of Insanity is High Intensity Interval Training. A few minutes at your highest level, then a short break, repeating the cycle for 20-60 minutes depending on which video you're doing. Also, stick to eating well, good luck, can't wait to see the before and after pics.

That's why you buy NIB with non-stock photos :)

OP: If you're so inclined, both Insanity and P90X are available on your P2P network of choice. You would, however, be tied to watching them on your comp unless you can find a DVD rip and had a way to burn said DVD files onto a disc in order to watch it on your TV. And that is free :)

I think it's totally okay for overweight people to do as long as you listen to your body. Modify the moves that are too tough and work your way up to doing them. And just stop and rest when you need to, it's ok :) Even the fittest people get quite winded and may need to rest. If you're up for the challenge, I say go for it!
