WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR FEBRUARY 2021

My son Tony "borrowed" $15k from me in April 2018 to start his own business - an auto repair shop (he's a mechanic). And after struggling for over 2.5 years, decided to call it quits at the end of 2020. He attempted a few times over that 2.5 year period to try to make some payments to me, but he just never could "get ahead". (I helped him with his books, so I know for a fact that he barely kept his head above water the whole 2.5 years).

In December, when he was closing shop, he sold one of the huge lifts (that they use to lift your car so they can work under it) for $1000 and gave that to me at christmastime. He bartered the other one to one of his auto parts guys that he had an outstanding account with so that the guy would show Tony's account paid in full.

I told him about a month ago that I wanted him to start paying me $25 each week and he asked if I knew how long it would take him to pay me back at that rate. I laughed and said that it would take MUCH LONGER at the rate he's paying me right now. That's when he told me that he was waiting on a lump sum from unemployment. (The last 1.5 years he barely took a salary - some weeks he didn't take any salary at all - this is why he thinks he's "owed" the back unemployment.) And I get it.

Anyways, fast forward to this past weekend.... and Tony has received $10,500 in unemployment "back pay". Don't ask me, because I have NO IDEA how they calculated that, or how he was eligible for that. When I asked him if he was going to be able to pay me anything, he said he wasn't sure because he had recently sold his car and his 4-wheeler in order to have money to pay some of his bills. Now he needs to get another car. He had also pawned alot of stuff and needed to go get it back out of the pawn shop! ($3,000) When I asked why he wasn't trying to find a JOB to pay his bills, he said that he would - but that he didn't want to before now because it would've effected his getting this much in unemployment. Seriously? Who pays their bills this way? Ugh.

Now I find out today that him and his wife are down in Logan Ohio renting a cabin for the week on "vacation". And still I haven't heard a peep about how he plans to repay me for any of the "loan". Hmmm. So today I texted him and told him that he needs to come up with a payment plan for me by the end of this week. He just responded with a LOL.

For me, It's just the idea of blowing through the money and not even making an attempt to work with me on any of what he owes me! I've been venting and ranting to my DH for the past 2 days, and you can best believe that that boy will not get another dime from me.

Thanks for listening. I'm just angry and frustrated. He certainly didn't learn these behaviors from ME!

Since I last posted, my son's health deteriorated significantly. While the surgery to remove fish (overcooked by group home and not prepared to diet orders) lodged in his esophagus was successful, within hours it was evident the choking incident/retrieval had caused other medical issues. Because this is a public forum, I am unable to go into detail at this time. His local medical team struggled to stabilize him (choked on Tuesday). Decision made by both local team and the Cleveland Clinic that my son needed transferred to Cleveland late Saturday night. During that snow you see posted above, my son was take by ambulance to Cleveland. We followed early Sunday morning. Today he had surgery and hopefully we will be able to move past this debacle. Thank you for all of your expressions of concern and outrage. We are seeking legal counsel and will be terminating our relationship with the group home and the agency that runs it. He will be moving home.
