Welcome and good luck this weekend @MissAtomicBomb238! We will need a full race report too!1

Morning all. Definitely getting cooler in NZ, I could see my breath while running this morning. Made for a nice easy run.
I've had the Fenix for less than a week and I LOVE it. Its upped my running game. Today I did 8k with 9x 10 sec sprints. I'm enjoying this change up in training. And Im noticing a big difference already. I ended up with an average pace of 6:10 min/km and it felt easy, like my old average of 6:30. I'm feeling confident and prepared for my next HM in 4 weeks.8 -
@Tramboman Sounds like today was a failure in the "put the fun back in the run" goal. You did great to get it done!
@Teresa502 Glad you beat the rain. I just opted for the treadmill this afternoon since storms were forecast and it had been raining on and off all day. Mom started feeling better last night, and is back to her old self today. She said she's been eating like a horse today. We do think it was just too much grease for dinner, which she probably ate quickly because we were going to mow her lawn, when she hasn't had much in a while.
@MissAtomicBomb238 Welcome. You have some impressive times in previous HMs. Hope we can help you un-meh. Good luck on your Half this weekend.
Welcome @WhatMeRunning ! I run/walk most of the time too. Just take it easy in the beginning and don't try to increase your mileage too quickly. That's a sure way to get injured. Have you looked into the Couch to 5K (C25K) plans? Those seem to work for a lot of people. I had to repeat some weeks, but that's ok. I'm just coming back from open heart surgery to correct an aortic aneurysm, so am still in recovery mode.
@rheddmobile , @skippygirlsmom , and anyone else where the severe weather has been happening, I hope you and yours are safe!
@Avidkeo So glad you are loving your new watch and love seeing you so excited about your progress. You are doing great!3 -

March total: 42.80/62 miles
It has been raining on and off all day today, with storms in the forecast, so I opted for a treadmill session again today. I was tired already, so was looking for an "easy" day. I did the running miles each at different speeds. The first one was a ladder from 4.5-5.0mph followed by a 3.8 mph walk, then came down the same ladder. The second I did a ladder from 4.5-4.7-4.5 and then a 3.8 mph walk, repeat. I did each rung for only one minute. The third mile I did at 4.5/3.8 mph for 4/1 minutes each. When figuring the stats on the runs, I was surprised that the 2nd and 3rd miles each came out at 4.4 mph. How can that be? I know it's due to rounding, but makes no logical sense to me that they can be that close when so much more of the time for mile 2 was above 4.5 mph. I must have spent an hour trying to figure out what I had done wrong. It's possible that I wrote one of the times down wrong. I made my brain hurt, so I quit and just went with it. LOL The total was 3.0 miles in 40:15 minutes for a 4.5 mph pace.3 -
WhatMeRunning wrote: »@MissAtomicBomb238 - Best wishes on your half this weekend! We'll be your run crew (pre-run and post-run, of course, best we can do)
Haha thanks! I surely miss hitting a 19 mile run and just complaining the whole way with people, questioning our life choices, and then doing it all again.5 -
@quilteryoyo - That's an impressive comeback you are performing! Nice ladders on the treadmill today. I wish I had a suggestion on the average pace enigma. I was split between C25K or referencing my old training data, including one comeback from a 6 month downtime after a broken foot in 2016-2017. In the end I charged up my old Forerunner 635, swapped out the old battery in the HRM and plan on data gathering over the next couple weeks as I start off really easy. I just love tinkering and formulating, so I can't help but do it this way.3
-
@WhatMeRunning That sounds like a very sound approach. How much did you run before? How long has it been since you have consistently ran?0
-
Welcome @WhatMeRunning - you look familiar too. Maybe our tiny little pictures just make us all look alike in these forums. Anyway, welcome and good luck with your goals. Glad to see you jump right in the conversation!
Welcome to you too @MissAtomicBomb238! I hear you on needing my run crew to get through those long runs. It's my therapy as well as a necessity for the whole questioning your life choices thing. Best of luck on your half this weekend and can't wait to hear how it goes. Your time goals are similar to mine, or what mine would be the weekend if I hadn't messed up my back over the weekend.
Which, good news is that the back feels much better today. PT yesterday really made a big difference and I think popped things back into alignment. I'm moving a lot better, and more comfortable sitting and standing. That's 4 days without running. I did go to strength training this morning and did some upper body work. We were careful to only do seated things today to keep any strain off the back. And I sat in the sauna for a good 20 minutes. After work I took an hour long walk with the dog and even did a tiny test jog. It felt odd but not painful. But I didn't want to push it so it was only a minute or two. I thought about MobyCarp's test jogs up and down the hallway while making his eggs and smiled.
Tomorrow I have another PT session. I'm hopeful that it will be even better after that. And maybe I'll start running again? Like a half marathon on Saturday? We'll see what the PT says.

@quilteryoyo the storms mostly went around us, we’re good here! Thanks for thinking of me!
Did 10k easy on the Greenline, I can’t tell if I’m still a bit tired from the vaccine or just haven’t done enough long runs recently but it was work. Chilly day! Two days ago it was 80 degrees with bright sunlight, today, 40, high winds, and misting rain. I would honestly rather run in 40 than 80 if it comes down to a choice but I was hoping for some sort of middle ground!
Saw a deer, several hawks, and a very nice farm doggy who followed us on the other side of the fence wagging his tail until we reached the edge of his property, then turned off and went home. All doggies should be so good!8 -

79.34/100 miles completed for March
This morning's run was tough, but I still ran a little over 5 miles. All week I have had a hard time getting up and going. I blame daylight savings time. Mostly it is hard to go to bed early and that makes it hard to get up. And this morning it was cold and windy and I just didn't want to go outside. But once I got out there I was glad. The run felt kind of hard because it was windy and the cold felt worse after having some really nice running weather. I am just really tired of winter.
I'm glad to hear so many are able to get the vaccine and are having mild side effects. I had my first shot on Sunday. My arm was sore that evening and Monday, but I have been fine since then.

@WhatMeRunning I must be having deja vu as well because when I saw your username, I was sure you were one of our former group members coming back...4
-
I haven’t run in a few days, but I’ve done body pump, a pop up kickboxing class, and some walking, so I haven’t been lazy either.
For all of you with injuries or not feeling well, I hope you all recover quickly soon.
Welcome to our newbies!
I’ll post more this weekend when I have more time.4 -
@katharmonic Great to hear your back is doing so much better! Fingers crossed the PT gives you good news today.
@rheddmobile I think big swings in temperatures affect me. You did great to get the hard run completed. Love all the animals you see.
@kgirlhart Good for you to get out when you really aren't feeling it. You're doing great. Glad you didn't have anything other than a sore arm from the shot too.
@marisap2010 Great job on keeping active!

Total for March - 4 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 66 miles
I have to say, even though I don't respond a lot, I do read and you all are such a positive, upbeat bunch and I love it. I love the motivation. I did the challenges 2 years ago, but then "The Year That Will Be Forgotten" happened.
So:
March 3 - 3.11 miles
March 4 - 3.11 miles
March 5 - Today will be some spin and strength
Total for March - 10.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 59.78 miles
My huge goal this year is to get my base back that I lost last year. Before 2020, I was averaging 1000+ mile years and last year, I barely got to 600. So, my base is shot.
I ran 5 miles today without walking and felt totally amazing the entire time. Super happy with how it went and I have no doubt that I'll get to my goals this year. March goal is to get up to 6 miles comfortably and I'm sure I can do it.
March 6 - 5 miles
Total for March - 15.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 54.78 miles
Donated blood on Saturday morning, so I kind of expected my Sunday run to be a bit rough. Ended up being a beautiful day and I was actually 20 seconds faster per mile than what I normally run. Perhaps the slight weight loss helped .
March 7 - 3.19 miles
March 8 - Spinning after work - No running today
Total for March - 18.41 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 51.59 miles
Well...it caught up to me. Today's run with rough, but I got through it. Was a beautiful morning and considering I almost didn't get out there, I'll take it as a win.
March 9 - 4.5 miles
Total for March - 22.91 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 47.09 miles
Get busy for one day and you miss so much!
I'll have my first in person race in over a year (it will be 444 days to be exact) on March 20 and I'm excited but nervous. Just trying to focus on what I can control. I signed up for the last start time, so hopefully won't be a busy course.
March 10 - 3.12 miles of speed work
March 12 - 3.11 miles - Just a good ol' 5K to start the day
Total for March - 29.14 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 40.86 miles
Quick update for the weekend...
March 13 - 5.57 miles
March 14 - 3.26 miles
Total for March - 37.97 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 32.03 miles
So I am adding a small weekly goal for this week...I'd like to run a total of 20 miles. I think I can do it.
March 15 - Spin and weights
March 16 - 3.11 miles and weights
Total for March - 41.08 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 28.92 miles
Miles for the week (March 15-March 21) - 3.11 miles with 16.89 miles to go
Leg work last night and speed work this morning = sore me....eeek.
March 17 - 4.07 miles
Total for March - 45.15 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 24.85 miles
Miles for the week (March 15-March 21) - 7.18 miles with 12.82 miles to go
First in person race in 444 days is tomorrow. Nervous, but excited to have this tiny bit of normal back in my life.
March 19 - 5.25 miles to start the day.
Total for March - 50.40 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to Go - 19.60 miles

@quilteryoyo The fun comes and goes...
Happy Autumn to those on the far side of the International Date Line!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)5 -
After noticing he wasn't contributing and wondering (but not ready to ask), I learned about @MobyCarp last night while syncing things up with my old Strava account and seeing the link to the story. I had to read the July 2019 thread and it brought so many emotions reading his last posts where he wasn't feeling well ahead of his event, contrasted with how he passed on doing what he was so passionate about. He was an irreplacable resource for this community. Thank you Kevin for all of the help, I never would have learned how to train smarter without your advice.
@quilteryoyo - I stopped long distance running in July 2017 but continued doing sprint interval and mile runs (and a few 5k's) for most of the rest of 2017. So, it's been a minute. Prior to that I was averaging around 40 miles/week and running half marathon distances as my regular long run (I ran 6 HM events spring 2017). In 2015 I ran 3 full marathons in 29 days, but those are also the only 3 marathons I have run. I don't know why I bring that up because to be fair, it was foolish. But I did it without injury so I managed to train and execute to the degree necessary to get away with it.
@katharmonic - Good luck with the PT!
@rheddmobile - Sounds like a great sight-seeing run, despite the perceived grind of it.
@kgirlhart - Way to overcome the winter and DST blues!
@polskagirl01 - Yeah, since you mentioned that, I updated my avatar with a t-shirt I was so proud to show off back in the day. (assuming it has actually updated for everyone). I still have that shirt, but it doesn't fit at the moment.
@pfeiferlindsey - I can't wait to read the race report.
@tramboman - I laughed at your description of the wind on your run.

I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?
