@martaindale @Teresa502 like I said, I have never run on a trail, so even if I were brave enough to risk injuring my 'legs of glass', it probably isn't a good idea to do it in a race environment. But someday I will try running on a trail, but I haven't found any close to me.
As for swallowing bugs, yes that is a common occurrence in the summer. The one's I really hate are the little gnats that fly in your eye and get stuck there. Last year I had one fly in my eye and I finally got it out the next morning! Ever since, I try to wear sunglasses when running in the daylight.
Oh, and thank you for setting up April for us @martaindale!8 -

Boy, was I wrong in my calculations last night. I thought 5 miles was going to put me over 80 miles and be my highest mileage month ever. Obviously, that wasn't the case. At least the miscalculation drove me to run the farthest I have since I had surgery. That's something. Then, I looked at my stats from last year and noticed that my August mileage was 87.37 miles. So, even if I had made 80, it wouldn't have been a record. Math!?6 -

3/2 - 4 early morning miles that felt really awesome
Total for March - 4 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 66 miles
I have to say, even though I don't respond a lot, I do read and you all are such a positive, upbeat bunch and I love it. I love the motivation. I did the challenges 2 years ago, but then "The Year That Will Be Forgotten" happened.
So:
March 3 - 3.11 miles
March 4 - 3.11 miles
March 5 - Today will be some spin and strength
Total for March - 10.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 59.78 miles
My huge goal this year is to get my base back that I lost last year. Before 2020, I was averaging 1000+ mile years and last year, I barely got to 600. So, my base is shot.
I ran 5 miles today without walking and felt totally amazing the entire time. Super happy with how it went and I have no doubt that I'll get to my goals this year. March goal is to get up to 6 miles comfortably and I'm sure I can do it.
March 6 - 5 miles
Total for March - 15.22 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 54.78 miles
Donated blood on Saturday morning, so I kind of expected my Sunday run to be a bit rough. Ended up being a beautiful day and I was actually 20 seconds faster per mile than what I normally run. Perhaps the slight weight loss helped .
March 7 - 3.19 miles
March 8 - Spinning after work - No running today
Total for March - 18.41 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 51.59 miles
Well...it caught up to me. Today's run with rough, but I got through it. Was a beautiful morning and considering I almost didn't get out there, I'll take it as a win.
March 9 - 4.5 miles
Total for March - 22.91 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 47.09 miles
Get busy for one day and you miss so much!
I'll have my first in person race in over a year (it will be 444 days to be exact) on March 20 and I'm excited but nervous. Just trying to focus on what I can control. I signed up for the last start time, so hopefully won't be a busy course.
March 10 - 3.12 miles of speed work
March 12 - 3.11 miles - Just a good ol' 5K to start the day
Total for March - 29.14 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 40.86 miles
Quick update for the weekend...
March 13 - 5.57 miles
March 14 - 3.26 miles
Total for March - 37.97 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - 32.03 miles
So I am adding a small weekly goal for this week...I'd like to run a total of 20 miles. I think I can do it.

March 16 - 3.11 miles and weights
Total for March - 41.08 miles
Goal for March - 70 miles

Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to Go - 19.60 miles
Miles for the week (March 15 - 21) - 12.43 miles with 7.57 miles to go
Today's 5K went so well! So much better than I anticipated.
Fairly small and they started people in 15 minute waves from 7 AM - 9 AM. Everyone was great with distancing and it was nice to get a small piece of normal back in my life.

Miles to go - 4.72 miles
Mileage goal for the week-(March 22 - March 28) - 25 miles - 19.74 miles to go

Goal for March - 70 miles
Miles to go - .72 miles
Mileage goal for the week - (March 22 - March 28) - 25 miles - 15.74 miles to go.
Yesterday's lunch run was so much better than Wednesday. We'll see how tomorrow's run goes, I just got my first COVID vaccine dose yesterday.

138.58/100 miles completed for March
I ran the same 5.4 mile run today that I ran yesterday but it was much better today. The wind was a beast the last mile or so, but I thought about the winds that @shanaber is dealing with and I figured I could tough it out. And all in all it was a nice run. So my month long streak goal was accomplished and I am finishing out March with 138.58 miles. I really enjoyed the streak and I may keep some of the short weekday, pre-yoga runs. But I am definitely looking forward to some relaxing Saturday mornings.
I will have to look at April and think about what my goal will be. I have a 10K race coming up on the 24th and I am pretty excited for that.
2021 Races:
4/24/21: Run For The Children 10K
11/6/21: Run For 57th AHC Half Marathon

@martaindale @Teresa502
Like @Scott6255 I have never run any trails and I am kind of nervous about trying it. But it would be nice to meet someone from the mfp group.2 -
Tuesday was my last run for March, 5 miles trails on the Wolf River. Amazingly the ground was dry (we are under a flood warning) but the bridge across the little creek was completely underwater as usual whenever the water is high.
It’s kind of nice being less concerned about other people on the trail. Still not fully vaccinated but 14 days out from 1st Pfizer shot, studies have found most people have substantial protection already, so we are starting to do a few more things. Since we gave up on this trail because of all the rude people passing close enough to smell them, it was good to be back.
March goal was for my husband and me to complete our personal race series without injury, and we did it!
You wouldn’t know there was a bridge here at all - it’s completely underwater! We just turned around and ran the loop backwards until we hit the bridge going the other direction.5 -
Was due a run yesterday for the last day of March, but I had my vaccine the day before and felt pretty rough afterwards (still do!) so decided to let it go. Good news is I did still surpass my very modest goal of 50 miles for March.
April will be a slow starter for me as I’m having a wisdom tooth out today and I know that will knock me for a few days. But I will get back on the horse again! Spring is here and life feels better.
See you all in April. Xx

@rheddmobile Glad you were able to get back on the Wolfe River Trail and that you and your husband finished the race series without injury. As for the bridge, I wonder why they didn't build it higher, since they know it floods?
@Faebert Yeah for meeting your goal! Sorry the vaccine through you for a loop. I hope you are feeling better today. That and a wisdom tooth removal could be brutal. Hugs and prayers for you today.1 -

"Today marks my running 90 consecutive days. I guess rest days are overrated...right,@AlphaHowls?"
I rest...occasionally, sometimes. Seriously, I understand the concept, but my type of running is not strenuous, at least not to me.
Not had a great deal of time to be on the forum, still running, but life is trying to run me over.7 -
Ended at 99.05 miles. I meant to go out last night but just too tired.6
-
Where is @katharmonic? Did you get lost in the woods hiking?
Aw, thank you @Teresa502 and @quilteryoyo. I did not get lost - it was a bit dramatic in a few ways but all is well. I've just totally been totally overwhelmed since I got back. After tonight's virtual work event things hopefully calm down a bit. I'll be back to update on the hike and my dismal running total for March. And to catch up with what you all have been up to and head over to April.6 -
@AlphaHowls You are amazing. Glad the tooth extraction didn't make you lose your streak. Hope things calm down and you feel better soon!
@katharmonic Glad you are okay. I hope things do calm down for you. Looking forward to hearing about the hiking weekend.2 -

Just posting a final total for March - didn't get close to my 100 mile goal. Look at all those zeros. On Sunday March 14 I was well ahead of pace for my goal and then I messed up my back and it all went another way. That's my lowest monthly total in a couple of years - probably since the last time I had the same back injury.
I got my monthly half marathon done though and I'm ready to get back on track for April. I'll see you all over in that thread and update about my hike there as we've all moved on now.
Great job in March everyone!
6 -
@katharmonic Sorry about your back. Hope it is feeling better!0
-
Thanks, everyone, for a great month of March!
I ran 218.6 miles and lost a few lbs!
My race on 4/3 went better than expected: I ran the Carmel Half in 1:31:20 for a 4:51 PR!
Have a great April!7 -
@nickseger
Congrats on the race and PR! That's a great time.
I wanted to make sure you knew where to find us if you wanted to continue chatting.
