ABOUT THE CHALLENGES & REQUIRED WEIGHT POSTINGS

We are going to be running (Optional) Mini-challenges this month: Daily Posts.

First and foremost is that participation in this challenge is optional. It's up to you as to whether you want to try this. If you don't want to participate in these challenges, you don't have to, the choice is yours, but I would like to encourage you to participate as it seems to help keep us on track and thinking about our goals on a daily basis and it's encouraging to see other's successes and struggles so that we realize that we are not alone!!

The Daily Posts Challenge is based on another challenge on MFP called UAC (Ultimate Accountability Challenge). The way UAC works is that the aim is to follow 5 basic rules.

#1. Track EVERYTHING you eat that has calories.
#2. Stay inside your allocated daily budget. (you set your own budget)
#3. Try to do at least 20 minutes of activity a day (anything: walk, run, cycle, swim, gardening, housework, yoga, gym, etc.. As long as it gets you active and off the couch)
#4. 1 pass day permitted per week (went over calories, could not track, not enough exercise, intentional pass)
#5. Check in daily (tracking yes/no, calories yes/no, exercise yes/no).

****End of the week. those who have managed to keep to plan for 6 out of 7 days are recognized in the thread as being part of the weekly "Winners Circle".

**A side note as there has been a bit of confusion for new members in the past, this is not the same as the official results, which are weight based, this is just another tool to help you reach your weight loss goals.**

    **REMEMBER**
You set your own daily budget.
You choose you own exercise and intensity (no step limit, no exercises you cannot or should not do, 20 mins of gardening counts as much as a 10 mile run, activity is activity, anything that gets you up and moving!).
Is not weight based (as weight fluctuates day by day).
    Can continue beyond weight loss.

Daily check in keeps you in touch with those doing similar. Longer term weight management is hard to do on your own.

It also has frequent resets (as in a circle each week).

It works on an honor system. Being honest with yourself and others is a key to making things work. Remember, this is a judgement free zone, everyone has good days and bad days, but the way to get to the finish line is by being honest and when we have a bad day, picking ourselves up and carrying on the next day!

Consistency and new habits have been shown the only long term successful way to change weight. We all want the progress made here to last a lifetime.

Your posts should look like this:
    Daily Post (Sunday)

    Track: Yes/no
    Calories: Yes/no (were you under)
Exercise: Yes/no (what type and how long)
Goals/Day/Comments: (Tell us a brief description about your how your day went or your goals for the day)

Please post your weight on your scheduled weigh in day, as if you miss weigh-ins, you may be eliminated from the challenge and we don't want to see that happen!!

Your posts should look like this:
    AB0215
    Week 1
    PW =(previous weight)
    CW=(current weight)

Please, please setup your posts in that format as it really makes it much easier for us to track your progress for the challenges and the weight loss!!

We'd like to help you be as successful as possible and if we can help in any way, please let us know. Also, if you have any suggestions for the team or fun ideas to spice things up a bit, please feel free to share them, we look for new ways to help engagement and keep people motivated!!

We are committed to this group and to help where we can, and please let us know if we can help in any way!!

    Welcome to the June Challenge!!

I guess I’ll be the first to post here. My name’s Leah. I’m 26, live in NC, and in my second year of grad school. I have struggled with my weight all my life, but have gained steadily since I started college in 2013. I’m at my highest weight ever (sixty pounds from when I graduated high school). I have some days where I feel good about myself, but most days I struggle - whether to force myself to exercise, find something healthy and filling, or food low in calories to satisfy my sweet cravings. You can find sweet tea and Coca-Cola running through my veins. I really do try, but my weight affects everything - my sleep, energy levels, knee and feet pain. I have all these little issues I know is exacerbated by weight gain. But whenever I take one step forward, it isn’t long before I take three steps back.

My name is Mary and my weight became a challenge in my early 20's. I have always been able to lose weight fast but to keep it off has been the challenge. It has been 4 times in my life I have hit my goal weight and then the rest of the time I gain it back. My goal is to lose weight, enjoy my food through moderation, keep active and keep the weight off. I must admit the last 5 months I have not lost weight but I have not gained any. I am an emotional eater when I am bored, lonely and angry. I am eldest of 5 and all my siblings have heart conditions. I feel like I am in denial. When I started with this group July 1st 2020 I was 204lbs and my current weight is 183lbs. This group has helped me stay on track and I am thankful to all the members support. I will continue to look ahead with June being a catalyst.

My name's Pat, and I'm a long-time vegan, and lover of all animals except ticks and blackflies and mosquitoes. And leeches, I don't like leeches either. I have been a junk food vegan (hence the obesity) but now I am eating healthy foods and exercising and I feel so much better. I broke my back in a riding accident several years ago, and it still hurts, but I find hiking with a walking stick really helps reduce my back pain and I am doing the c25k plan (week 2 starts tomorrow! I am determined to run a 5k in under 30 minutes by mid October). I weighed 218 when I started with this group on the first of April, and as of this morning, I hit 189.5, so it's working for me.

@southgirl94 Recently, I've learned that it's important to take a moment and appreciate where we are, rather than get upset at ourselves for being there. I'm currently 60 lbs higher than I was after losing 110 lbs and swearing to myself I'd keep it off. The pandemic happened, they took away weightlifting meets from me, my coach stopped coaching and I just felt sad. Then when I had finally decided it was time to stop feeling sorry for myself, my mom passed unexpectedly this year, and all said and done I did gain 60 lbs and I just had many emotions about that, but I've decided to look at it another way. Yes, I'm 60 lbs heavier, but I didn't gain all of it back, and I need to appreciate where I am right now. I'm not starting over. I'm picking up where I left off and I know how to lose the weight, it's still hard. It's much easier to use food to comfort myself but that is not going to get me to my goals. Instead, I have to get back to being comfortable with the uncomfortable. Losing weight is NOT comfortable, we will be hungry, tired, crabby, but ultimately, we have to be uncomfortable to get to our goals. I can do that. You can do that. We can get there, it's hard but we can do it.
And this---is going to sound nuts. Maybe quit the sweets cold turkey (that's how I did it) and the reason, they keep you feeling empty. It's by design. Sugar....is addictive, it's basically a drug and provides no nutritional content and sometimes, even sweet tasting but low calorie can still mess with your head and trigger the cravings. One thing I did, and sometimes still do---I make a snow cone. Blend some ice, and top it with a 0 calorie water enhancer....you get the "treat" but it's 0 calories. It helped me at one point, though now, I do better with nothing at all.

@Bemybestby60 I feel your pain there. I got to my goal and then.......didn't keep it off. So many things happened the year I got there and I am quite shocked at how quickly I gained so much of it back. But we can do this :)

@chublet25 We're glad you're here! I think there is a lot to be said about a "body in motion" and keeping the muscles active and strong is usually the best way to overcome accidents and injuries and a lot of times the hard part about the recovery process. Keep up the progress! You're doing great!

Hi Leah, you’re here. And you’re trying. Take one day at a time. Hugs to you. Cause I know it can be such a struggle. I struggle too.

Hi guys. My name vicky. I am married and have 2 wonderful boys. I’ve struggled with my weight for years. Jan 2019 I Had decided I was going to learn to really love myself. Something I struggle with. I started journaling, I started jogging then running. I started learning to eat better. I was doing pretty good. I was down almost 20 pounds, I was running and walking 6 days a week for 4-6 miles, I felt the best I had in a long time. Then my dad passed in July of that year and I’ve been struggling since to get back there. I’ve gained all the weight back, plus some and my ability to be consistent with exercise comes and goes. But I am determined. I am going to keep trying until I one day am just doing instead of trying. I will get there. In the meanwhile I’m going to really just love myself again. Losing a parents is tough. And when you’ve lost both it’s even harder. You kinda feel lost. But I’ve been lost too long now. So I too shall get there.

This really is a wonderful group of people. I feel lucky y’all let me stay and struggle with you. Xoxo.
