GINNY I'm sorry about your thyroid and osteoporosis. It sounds like you are still in great shape, and on top of things.

    Hugs to drkatie

Tired after the 36 h at the sea.
I had actually seriously considered cancelling- I had a lot of unexpecteds planned before and after. And an invitation to picnic with friends on Sunday- it'd been ages. But I have a nice contact with the hotel owners and had reserved by phone. I figured if I cancelled late they might not appreciate (even though the area is pretty full up at present), and so I kept it. When I arrive on Sunday midday it's so packed but the sea, it's too much. I went for a little bite on the way to the hotel and was stuck in full sunny seat (too hot!) then showered rested in the hotel for a copule of hours and went out at 4pm, for lovely swim in the sea, and again at sunset. (about 10pm). I brought picnic food for dinner, breakfast and Monday dinner.

    Eating
Lunch out Sunday, small light salad and GF chocolate cake
    Picnic dinner Sunday, a few tiny slices of bread, sardines, tofu, piece of cuke part of a store bottle of unrefrigerated carrot juice ;
Picnic Breakfast Monday cereal and and soymilk, rest of carrot juice
Lunch out Monday: sea bream, veggies, glass of white wine, fruit salad with tiny scoop of lemon sorbet, and marscapone foam - no bread nor starch so it was a fairly light lunch, for eating out with desert
Picnic dinner Monday : tofu, 2 tiny boxes of organic veggie soup, some soy milk, followed by a small sorbet (not more than half a cup)
On train home : a sip of light store-bought strawberry banana smoothie (less than a cup), about 75 calories max.

Weight up. Dentist in 3 hours. dragging. Home needs some serious tidying.
Walked plenty this weekend but no fast cardio. More of a beachy amble as I was wearing flip-flops all the time.

I had some lovely moments at the beach dozing in the sand or swimming in the sea. I find it so amazing. Slightly transcendant. Seeing the sun and water and land, feel aware of the vastness of the universe and our little passing place on it. And swimming in the sea was fun. Not a lot od swimming, just in and out for 5-15 minutes. it's pretty cold...

And the lunch on Monday was delicious. it's this topnotch subtle cooking at rather modest prices. I say little wows inside when I eat main dish and desert.
I always reserve there when I go (for past year). There are always regulars who reserve and it's almost always booked a two or three days in advance, at least. And they are friendly and welcoming. It's a small, informal place. I spoke with several other customers and took my time to stay out of the sun after I had checked out of hotel. The wine didn't seem to go well for me with the meal so I drank it after the dessert - so like another course, then espresso.
They offer a shot of calvados, a local hard alcohol (an apple brandy). I tried it but I can't stand hard alcohol, it just all seems the same to me, just pure alcohol and no taste.

I got the train back at 8:15pm getting in close to midnight. thats' a bit too late, finally. I think next time I'll take the 5pm-ish train back to get home at about 8pm: less tiring the next day.

The trip was nice. at the end of the day I ran into some strange people...
A woman near me e at the station and said she was unable to buy her ticket (online nor on the machine) that she would buy it on the train. She was a bit sticky (staying near me to talk about that) which I saw as a possible red flag. I went into the station and saw it was possible to buy a ticket and told her the ticket machine was working again. She said thanks I'll go buy a ticket, and she left and never came back out with her ticket! I guess she was hoping to scam me that I might buy her a ticket. She looked slightly suspicious as she said she had come for the day but had just a tiny day pack. It's possible to come for the day 4h round trip by train to go to the sea, and some people do it, but her bag was pretty tiny for that (usually you'd have a bit of food, bathing suit, and towel and water at least, and she didn't quite look the part.

Another, pretty youngish was tipsy at a table on a street side café and was trying to insist I should come and have a drink with her and 2 old guys there. She was obviously smashed - but it was weird. I've been there many times and never had any such thing occur.

And a yelling woman on the train (not at me, but right behind me on 1st train commenting unpleasantly on everything)

    and so on

    happy to be home.
there was supposed to be a protest today but I'm so glad that no one in our groups or my schools planned to go- not really - but I'm glad to have the time to take care of other stuff today.

Tomorrow I will take my daughter to the Portland airport for her flight to Illinois. It has been a a few years since I’ve driven to the airport & I don’t look forward to the traffic. I hope she has a good flight.

    Joyful June:
14-Share a happy memory with someone who means a lot to you:
15-Look for something to be thankful for where you least expect it:

Lots of laughter on our big adventure today, R and T are the very best of traveling companions. Frances Shrader Old Growth trail was just right, peaceful, fabulous gigantic Doug firs and Port Orford cypresses, only 4 other people on the whole loop. Grateful to T and R for their patience with my pace and need to catch my breath partway back UP. Tasty BBQ brisket tacos at Cougar Lane Lodge, then T drove her jeep all the way down to the rocky beach and we stuck our hands in the Rogue River. What a day!

Margaret I just don’t get it with the Pekinese, fail to see the appeal. Bourbon was so much more elegant and attractive.
Kayne fingers Xd for your follow up appointment.
Carol WOW I had to wait 4 weeks (not hours) for my crown to be made. But oh! Four hours in the dentist’s chair, yuck!
Debbie 10 bags of fresh rosemary? Bet wherever its stored smells fabulous!
Welcome back @BEE3FAM Monica from SoCal! Good attitude as key. Who knew you could walk too aggressively?
Julie what you said about the transcendence of sun, sand and sea. Glad you listened to your warning bells, they rang for good reasons.
Welcome back Viv, you’ve been missed!

    Lighter, lovelies!

Just got a reply from the owner of Fatto a Mano restaurant, following my Google review. I was complaining that the service and ambiance had changed and the music was overloud. I now have his email address to write to, so will do that. He is a friend of my son, but he doesn't know I am his mother :o Even my son thought the music was too loud and , at the end, we were the only ones in there!!!!

Went out for my run this morning. Wonderful. Already warming up for another hot day. I like Julie's word 'Transcendent'. The sea does that to me every time. Came back and rowed for 25 minutes to make up my morning 600.
Listened to Soul Music podcasts. True Colours and River.

Julie - I too hate eating under a hot sun. In fact, I like an umbrella or awning over my head most days, unless it's cold. Your trip sounds great, especially the lunch and swims.

Bought fresh bagels and artisan bread on the way home. Might do bagels with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for breakfast when my brother and his wife come this week. I'm not quite up to Eggs Benedict.

    Love Heather UK xxxxxx
