Thank you for posting your list. It's not only inspiring, but it also reflects how I've struggled and made excuses for far too long.2

You absolutely CAN do it!0 -
I can't find the original post that started this thread. Where is it?

I’ve given up thinking I can somehow wing it. ‘Exercise more, watch what I eat, just be sensible’ hasn’t worked so far. Now I’m using cold, hard data and not kidding myself. Calorie counting, weighing, journaling, and adjusting the plan as necessary. I’m basically project-managing my weight loss. But fully accepting it’ll be a life-long project.11

So glad to read this. Thanks so much, the list is so true. Congrats on your weight lost. I started again this month, hoping to lose 100 pds. It will not happen over night so I'll be patient with myself. Thanks again. Good luck with your continued success!3

Congratulations on the progress in your journey! And thank you so much for your first person insight. It’s so down to earth and layman simple, and that’s what makes it so easy to understand and relatable. You are the exact kind of reassurance I needed today!1

A serial excuser here, I have health issues that have nothing to do with weight. So everyone has excused me for a long time, and I felt quite powerless and hopeless to lose anything. Basically? I didn't know much about nutrition or losing weight. When I joined Mfp in 2013 at 277lbs it was more of a hope to not gain more weight. I have been on prednisone since 2003. So Dr's basically were like, "That is prednisone for you" And while, yes prednisone is a life wrecker for a life already wrecked, today I am down 70 lbs. I like how my Dr. still has said nothing, other than you have cancer - but I mean about my weight. Turns out I don't have to excuse it, and this list has helped me already. I didn't know about volume eating before ya'll started piping in! Last month I started eating salads again.
Volume eating helped me make a decision about cheese. Evidently, cheese is my cake. Lols, I don't know how else to say it. I won't eat cake or candy except on occasion. I have always been an avid salad eater and potato eater, known as the "spud queen" in my time and not just because I have a smidge of Irish in me. Obviously I love salads, but with 3 oz of bleu cheese AND some bleu cheese dressing plus add other things for color. I don't know why this high calorie food never made alarm bells. But it did not. I imagine it is because when I don't eat meat, cheese is what I consider in my mind a substitute. So I never considered it a "This is a tiny piece of marbled fat of steak with meat on it". Because then it would have registered for me!
So seeing clearly is important, I had to make the choice to give up my favorite cheeses. In taco land here in Houston, where the food is so very good is challenging but NOT IMPOSSIBLE... Let us just say that I don't look down my nose at no fat mozzarella anymore and 1% low fat cottage cheese is the closest I will get to eating a meal of cheese again.
I am beginning to wonder if this is really one of the main reasons I am obese to begin with! I thought forever it was the crackers and wine, which I gave up a decade ago!! LOLs, but the cheese which I ate with the crackers and wine? Well that is good for you! You would think that I was raised on a dairy farm. I imagine, that somewhere out there is an avid nut eater who is severely obese with a wonderful diet of fresh foods wondering why they are so fat when all everyone can talk about is junk foods they wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole! Lols, life is weird and I am awkward! But now to more weight loss, I am grateful to be alive! If you know this person, send me a message I would love to talk. Anyway, feel free to friend me. I will be here probably forever.

Great post! I have to give up thinking that I CAN'T do this and that I'm doomed to be an morbidly obese person. I have and I can again.2

I love bolthouse farms!! I have never seen a bleu cheese, but now I will go out of my way to every store to find it. There is nothing more satisfying than literally eating a whole darn bowl of salad that is the size of a watermelon, with onions, cucumbers, turkey and bolthouse for around 280 calories! This is how I don't feel hungry!! This is how I can do this so much easier.4

@justanotherloser007, "a meal of cheese"
I think we might have just become best friends. I too said "special occasions only" to cheese. I LOVE it on everything, but it's way too easy to have way too much.
Cheese and hummus. I could eat hummus for days.2 -
I won't lie, it is common for me to eat 220g of cottage cheese for breakfast, so it is 1% fat now and lots of my daily protein! Carbs in the am make me feel hungry and unsatisfied for no apparent reason. My hubby just shakes his head as he eats some kind of cereal. He could look into it, he was diagnosed as diabetic ten years ago. It is just perfect in my mind.1
