Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Welcome to those who are new! Please give us a name you'd like to be called and a place, however vague or specific, so we can remember you and your posts and get to know you... For those asking to be friended, you will probably get a few, but for many of us, this ongoing and recurrent thread is the way we interact with each other, and we tend to ignore friend requests.
KJ
- You are a beautiful lady, filtered or unfiltered. Your skin is kinda incredible.
Penny
- I'm sorry you're missing the North Pole... but there are worse exiles, for sure.
Flea, my dear
- I'm so glad the bat missed you, and sorry your husband put a damper on your day. They can be oblivious, as you already know, and it probably never occurred to him that you could be happy when he was not.
I am feeling better... I've made strides the last couple of days, mentally and physically, but don't want to jinx it. There have been too many times I thought I was done, only to backslide. I'm clinging to every forward step right now, and doing my utmost to hold onto any tiniest hint of progress.
Quilting circle this morning, if I'm feeling it by 9 a.m.
Later, y'all,
Love,

Michele: Regarding your job situation! I know that many restaurants are begging for workers and I wonder if you might like being a hostess. That way you would get to mingle with people and keep very busy while doing it. Just a thought.

I knew he wasn't a fan of baseball -- not of any sports at all -- but I thought he liked fireworks. He was complaining afterwards about the traffic and said we should have left the show early because "my ADHD was kicking in anyway, and I really wanted to get out of there." Sigh. I hate that so much because I really did have a nice time and thought we were having a great family outing, despite the near miss to my head. But I guess not.

I guess it's time to enter half of my exercise calories instead of all of them. Last time I did this I entered all exercise calories for the first 3-4 months.
Losing about that each week is good. You wouldn't want to lose much more that that. And it's especially good for the first week. It takes me a couple weeks before I start losing anything.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. The first week is generally the week I lose the most because of the water weight that is lost. Perhaps being menopausal now has something to do with the slow loss the first week. Hoping that I don't quit (again) due to being discouraged. Last time I even waited to weigh after a month and still got too discouraged to continue. Checking in with this group will hopefully help!

Keep in mind too that many things can cause a person to retain water including:
-- heat (like hot summer days)
-- sunburn
-- travel (especially air travel)
-- surgery
-- injuries
-- the female cycle
-- more exercise than usual
-- drinking more water than usual ... like if it is a hot summer day
Depending on when you weigh yourself, you could be recording a water weight day. I weigh just about every day, so I can see the patterns and usually, if something has caused a water weight gain, about 3 days later I'll have a "visit the toilet frequently" day and my weight will drop when I weigh the next morning.
It's quite cool where I am (Australia), but if you're in certain parts of North America, it may have been quite warm recently. That could easily have an effect.

I have been struggling with vaccine side-effects in recent weeks. Two Pfizer's and a flu shot attacked my lymph nodes resulting in lots of pain and swelling and I have been dragging with no energy. It's been all I can do to get to work and prop myself up in front of my computer most days. Then when I get home, that's it, I'm done.
I've chatted to a few women in my department and apparently these symptoms are not completely unusual. Thank goodness for that. It's a relief to know that I should come good and get my energy back again.Review ... (Distances include cycling + walking + a bit of rowing)

Anyone else have the "I might as well wait until...." mindset? It's hard to get out of! Any ideas to combat this??!
I might as well wait until....
- after I go on vacation because I know I won't want to/be able to track as closely during that time
- after the big cookout I've been invited to this weekend because I know people will have salads/desserts sitting out and I won't be able to resist them so why bother until after that?
- after I go out to eat for my anniversary dinner because who wants to worry about calories for that?
- after I go on a girls night with friends in a couple of days because... wine!
- after the retirement party I've been invited to because.. cake!
- after our church potluck because so many choices and since I don't know the recipes, it's impossible to really count and track!
- after..... you fill in the blank .... the list can go on forever ...
I also get the mindset like ... "you know why CAN'T I have a piece of cake, a bowl of ice cream, a glass of wine ... I see other thin people eat this stuff and drink all the time and they don't have a weight problem?!!" But obviously I can't, so I can't (unless I log it of course! I don't believe in total deprivation).
Thanks for the support! I need to check in here daily! These forums are a God send!

R in Indiana, I'd like to recommend "Better Than Before" by Gretchen Rubin as a good read for you either as a book or an audio book (I got both from my public library). It has amazing ideas about creating good habits including a section that addresses "I might as well wait". She has a different name for it. I found out about Gretchen Rubin from a woman on this thread.

Barbara - I am thinking about the bear issue that you’ve had in the past. I have cousins who live near Red Bluff, CA and hunt bears. They enjoy bear meat. I wonder whether Oregon has hunting tags for bears. I am a dunce in posting photos and would welcome help figuring it out. I know how to take the photos, but not how to upload them.

Wow...such a busy board. Lazy three day weekend....well, we got lots of work done around the house but no big gatherings. Angel voice won out yesterday...I was hangry and we found a place open when we went on a little day drive. The menu was filled with lots of crazy good sounding dishes....specialty was the big bad burger. I went with a turkey wrap and fruit as a side and it was DELICIOUS! So happy I made good choice this time! I walked twice this weekend which is a big deal for me. I have knee and hip issues that make it difficult but it was a start. Paid for it yesterday!
Welcome to new folks...I'm pretty new too and will get the hang of this eventually!

Hello all, did just OK over the holiday weekend. Didn't do too bad eating, but I didn't track very well. Went for a girls night for the first time in a couple years it feels like. We went to a fancy pants restaurant and then went to see Mama Mia at our local theatre. So much fun! Moved the oldest back into college with the sketchy roommate. She starts her summer class today. And then had friends over for the 4th, also something we haven't done in forever due to the pandemic. Had a nice walk on the 4th to make up for the cheesecake my friend brought by that evening. Yesterday was my first full week after deciding to try to lose the last 10 to get to a healthy weight vs. overweight weight. I am down 1 pound. Which I'll take! This week I'm not sure about - heading for a camping trip to my (deceased in 2019) mom's hometown where we will visit with relatives. Planning a beach volleyball tournament one day, will go out on the lake (Lake Huron) for some tubing or skiing probably. Will try to eat reasonably but it's camping food... Will try to get in some kind of physical activity every day and track food. Tonight is Kuk Sool class, and I may try to fit in a walk after lunch. Have a great week everyone!

Penny, your place looks idyllic, and I'm happy you have the scent of flowers about you! I know you miss your old place, but but its easier to look forward than backward. 💖👍
Hugs!

Michele--Sorry to hear they are treating you so bad, I don't understand why they would favor someone who does the least to get by, over someone willing to work and has good customer service. If your job is over they need to tell you that straight out and stop messing around or find something else for you to do.
Tracey--That is pretty nasty treating you that way after you put in so much work to get that system working right.
Going to be hot here today, with storms later this evening. I cleaned up fireworks out of the yard last night after work. I was not happy to have pop-bottle rockets on my front porch under the rocking chairs, I am just grateful for no fires. Been feeling really funky, not sure if just over tired, but have tomorrow off,so plan after DH goes to work is to go back to bed. Will clean house when I get up. Then I work the 3 days after 12 hours each day.

I went out for lunch and instead of my usual burger and fries I had a grilled chicken salad. It was really good!
I'm going out tomorrow as well, so we shall see what that brings. I'm feeling popular!
