Very stressful week. My husband with Alzheimer’s, fell Tuesday and was in hospital. He is now in in patient rehab. I have restless energy and keep pacing when I’m not with him. Prayers for a good recovery are welcome.7 -
bowens1973 wrote: »Happy Saturday all! Ash and I are just wrapping up a week of holidays that was like no other. Our entire vacation was built around physical activity. We had an amazing hike along the wild Saskatchewan River, biked The Legacy Trail from Canmore to Banff (and back), which is something we've seen from the Trans-Canada Hwy many times and now we want to do it again. I golfed for the first time in a few years. We even successfully mountain biked a trail rated difficult in Elk Island National Park. It was amazing watching @ashleycarole86 rip up the trail without any hesitation! To think that less than a year ago I could barely get off the couch due to hip pain, I'm very happy with life. I could not have done it without the support of my wife. I am 10x stronger with her beside me. I'm truly lucky.
The scale and I have had a bit of a dislike for each other these past couple of weeks. After a +6 pound loss 3 weeks ago, I haven't budged until today in which I saw a 1.25 pound loss. Finally! Is it possible that I'm still having non-weight related progress, converting fat to muscle? Plateaus suck, but I keep thinking of an inspirational quote I saw on here once: "you didn't gain the weight overnight, so you're not going to lose it overnight either".
You two are the best! I love your active vacation, with its challenges, triumphs, planning, beautiful scenery, and great strides forward into health and fitness. Seriously inspiring -
As to the scale? You BET there is muscle replacing fat - you will gain some weight during that process. Also, during the time you are stressing the muscles (biking that trail? stressing the muscles for sure!), they will retain water while repairing and building. Do not worry about that scale during those times - just keep the diet within good parameters and all will be well.
BTW - plateaus do not suck! We all need them - fairly often. Our bodies need a minute to get used to a new "set point" all through the weight loss process, and if you try to force your way through them, you will go nuts and eat like a crazy person, regain, and feel horrible. Enjoy the plateaus - after a few pounds loss, take the time to sit there for a week or 2, then move on again. Don't go crazy, but let them happen. Feel glad that you need one - it means your body is adjusting to a NEW reality. Not the same old. Love the plateaus! Then keep moving. You know you have hit one if you are hungry all the time, feeling frantic about food, etc. That is a good moment to take a well-controlled break and just stay there for a bit.5 -

That is so difficult! My heart goes out to you - recovery is hard, and a disease like Alzheimer's with its relentless slow decline is even more difficult. Take a deep breath and know that falls will happen, rehab is amazing, and you will be a huge help during the continued physiotherapy. I wish the best for both of you - keep pacing, but also taking quiet deep breaths, doing your stretching, listen to music - do what you need to nourish yourself so that you can take care of your husband. If you ever want to call and talk or need a distant friend, send me a message.6 -
Today was busy but we accomplished a lot in our jungle. Then we went to a baseball game and saw fireworks afterwards.
@sunny9847 So sorry to hear about your husband’s fall. That must be so hard. My heart goes out to you. Sending prayers to you.6 -

Today for me was the opposite of @jugar and all the productive stuff she got done. I felt T-I-R-E-D!! Chose to honor that by spending about 3 hours of the afternoon tucked away for a nap. I am not normally a napper, but it just felt soooo good today.
Brad and I are just sitting at the campfire now and as I was posting my steps we were lamenting at how natural it has become for us to get a reasonable amount of steps in. Today didn't have any formal exercise plans and was mostly about rest and recovery but we still squeezed out a good amount of walking.
I honestly think having a dog to walk makes this even easier.
I've been wanting to do more yoga but find it uncomfortable to do at the trailer. I haven't been quite meeting my goals to practice as often as I'd like, but I have increased it overall so it's something I want to keep focusing on.5 -
@sunny9847 That sounds really stressful! I hope you are both okay. While he is in being cared for make sure you squeeze in some rest and recovery for yourself before he arrives home. Do they allow you to visit him? Sending hugs💛3

@jugar We have lived trapped those little guys at our house in the past. We always use a combination of marshmallows, peanutbutter and fruit. The trap usually has to sit out for 3-4 days before they finally make it inside. Hope you can re home the little stinker soon. Also thanks for the history lesson about getting on your horse from the left side. I never knew why before!
Lots of busy days! Yesterday was a lake day and I spent most of it treading water while on lifeguard duty. My youngest finally got the hang of jumping off the dock. Kayaking with my daughter for 30 minutes. Came home and walked the dog. Then the neighbors came over to see my father in laws new tractor 🚜. They didn't leave our place until 10:30 pm.
Today was all day packing and getting ready to leave for the Oregon Coast in the morning. My kids are really excited. Fingers crossed they aren't up crazy early 😜. I have not been logging the last 2 days.5 -

Not a great start BUT I did a workout this morning after a 3 months hiatus so that felt good. And I had a huge salad for breakfast so hopefully I won't get the munchies.
I passed the year on my course so my head is in a much better place, I can finally have a mental break from the stress of it.
I'm going to try to be a little more active on this group, it worked in the past. I know I will feel terrible if I allow this pattern to carry on and gain back all the past hard work. So hopefully, I nip it in the bud5 -

Not a good result from the past 7 days. However, I did no exercise, felt sluggish all week, didn't log at all, so it's no wonder! And to top it all, this morning I was "pinged" by our NHS app to alert me that I had recently been in contact with someone with Covid and so I have to self-isolate for the next 8 days! I feel perfectly fine and I am blessed in that I work from home, but I had such a fun week planned! I was meant to join friends for a picnic in the park this afternoon, go into work at the Museum cafe a couple of days, have lunch with friends and go out on a few long walks too!
Anyhow, after sulking for a bit, and checking my journal, I have called everyone who needs to be called and swapped my practice walks for some new indoor walks to do while I'm isolating.
It's ironic because hubby and I both had Covid tests last Wednesday morning because we were due to go away to a wedding in Yorkshire the following day, and that was one of the conditions placed upon all guests. We were relieved to have negative results and thoroughly enjoyed the wedding.
Anyway, that's the end of my rant. I will be reporting my steps in a separate message.4 -

Happy Sunday all!
Hugs for you @sunny9847 and best wishes for a speedy recovery for your husband.
It's been a fairly chilled weekend here - we've done some shopping and today I bought some new medium/size 12 t-shirts, as my large/size 14 t-shirts are getting too big. They fit (a couple are going back as they aren't as fitted as I would like) so I'm pleased with that.
My sister opted against the mini lemon drizzle cake and we ate a big brownie we had in the freezer - that fed 6 and we had it between 3 of us, as you had to heat the whole thing. I went over my calorie goal, but still comfortable for the week. This journey will never be sustainable if I can't go over my calorie goal occasionally though.
Today - despite being 'injured' (though a chiro session/sports massage on Friday helped) I accomplished my next sports goal and broke the 35 minute 5K barrier with a time of 34:07. Very pleased with that! I think I could've pushed on and gone sub-34 if I'd clock watched more, but I don't enjoy my running as much if I'm watching the time or distance. On the whole then a good weekend.
Looking forward to tomorrow to continue the trend. I'm off work, excited about the sports injury therapist session (I really hope I can get what I want out of it) and then I shall be meeting my mother and sister for more shopping and lunch out. And weigh in of course.2 -
My steps for the last week:

05/07 - 6920
06/07 - 2839
07/07 - 7552

10/07 - 3313
Dismal figures, I know, but it will be so much better next week!3 -
We hit almost 20 pounds lost as a team, and that put us in 1st place! Well done! True, other teams had a rough week and will need some encouragement, so don't hesitate to go visiting and give them some love. We did well, though - just how I like to see it. No gigantic unsustainable losses, no falls into the abyss. Steady losses, no terrible gains. You are the best.
I went today for my annual soft-serve ice cream cone at our local summertime snack bar. Wood's is the best place for poutine and other things I don't eat, but their ice cream is from a local place (Coaticook), and it is SO good. After working for a few hours on the gardens surrounding my son's house, I walked on over and had my indulgence. It was wonderful. The gardens are looking a lot better too! The house used to belong to my mother-in-law who passed away 2 years ago. She was very proud of her gardens and paid for help once she could not take care of them herself. I'm sad to say that they have been neglected since she left us, so today I really got in there and made things look better. Luckily, it is all well-planned perennials, so mostly the job was clearing out debris, deadheading, and pulling up unwanted maples and oaks that have decided they belong everywhere. I am glad my son is living there, taking care of the house and having a lovely place of his own, but he has no interest in the gardens at all. I figure I earned that ice cream, right?
Here are the reminders for today and tomorrow - thanks!
