It is a tricky question due to individual and activity level but a rule if thumb is usually between 1500-2000 calories with out exercise. I usually have my clients start at 1800 and after 2-3 weeks reassess , then from there reduce if have too. Work also comes into play, if you do a lot of moving and lifting compared to an office setting. 👍.. hope that helped a bit

If you don't have a lot to lose yet choose the most aggressive weekly weight loss goal of 2 pounds per week, you will get 1200 calories, which is indeed unnecessarily low for those of us who are not very very short AND sedentary.

This may help you chose your weekly weight loss goal:

This is highly variable. Calorie needs aren't universal. Your calorie needs vary depending on your personal stats (height, weight, age, sex) and activity.

Also, many people choose the most aggressive weight loss goal possible regardless of how much they have to lose...and also select a sedentary activity level whether they actually are or not...that's usually going to result in 1200 calories for a female or 1500 for a male. Aggressive weight loss rates are obviously going to require aggressive weight loss calories.
