Hi! I'm new to this app and I haven't worked out in years. I couldn't afford a gym membership, so I got myself a stationary bike. I have to start out easy because I have a bad back, so I got a recumbent bike. I broke a sweat yesterday and burned a little over 200 calories in 30 mins so I'm pretty proud of myself.
I've been overweight/obese for years. After I got married in 2009, I started gaining weight slowly lol. I had a child in 2018 and I'm the same weight as I was after I gave birth. It never went away. I've wanted to lose weight for years, but never did because I would quit and go back to my old habits. This year seems different. My body has been trying to tell me to lose weight and I'm listening now although I am losing focus off and on with wanting junk food. I'm trying super hard because my family has heart problems and I'm terrified of getting something and I'm addicted to sugar so this will be interesting!
SW: 245 lbs.
CW: 245 lbs.
Goal weight #1: 200 lbs.
Goal weight #2: 160 lbs.
I have to be under 165 to be in the regular bmi range which is a lot of weight. Not sure I can accomplish that much in one year, but I will try!10 -
You've got this @mantherzemail !!3

SW: 400 lbs
CW: 259 lbs
End Goal: 150 lbs
I worked my way down to 200 lbs from 400 lbs several years ago. Then my Mom passed away unexpectedly and being a stress eater I regained almost 70 lbs. I made it back down to 195-ish lbs a year ago. I've been slowly regaining throughout last year back up to 269 lbs.
My father just passed away Christmas Eve from complications from COVID and I'm terrified I'll balloon back up to 400 lbs. I really need to find friends that we can encourage each other and support each other.17 -

Awesome, thank you!1 -
My name is Sharon, and I am a wife, mother, teacher, and soon to be grandma.
Age: 51
Height: 5'8"
August 23, 2021 - SW - 420 lbs.
Today, January 3, 2022 - 359.4 lbs.
60 lbs. in less than 5 months. I'll take it.
Reasons for my motivation:
1. It hurt to walk, and got to the point that it hurt when I went to sleep at night. I am a very busy teacher, and I love my jobs, but it was going to be impossible if I didn't do something.
2. I love to travel, and I am planning a trip to Africa in June when school lets out.
3. I just found out that I am going to be a grandma, so I want to be able to keep up with the new addition.
January goals:
1. Stay within my calorie goal.
2. Work up to drinking 64 oz. of water.
3. Walk at least 5,000 steps daily.
4. Use the stationary bike 3-4 times a week.
2020 goals:
1. Get to 250 lbs. by 2023. (I haven't been that low in aver 25 years.)
2. Easily walk 10,000 steps daily.
3. Be fit enough to run a mile without stopping.12 -

Hi Jessian_Rose!
I totally get it. I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of both your parents. I lost my mom in 2012 and I to gained back a lot of weight I had lost. I'm in process of working my way down. It is much slower this time for me but I'm sticking to it. For me, finding support in my journey makes a big difference.8 -

Ty so much, I needed that! I def feel overwhelmed lol. Im going to try meal prepping and see if I hat he lds me over. Also I need bge bad at night. So going to try to eat earlier in the day and not after 5 or 6, in the past that's what helped me lost the most was avoiding food at night because for me, it doesn't stop with one snack lol.6 -

I've had that problem over December, so I'm trying that total abstinence after 7 pm. I go to bed at ten, and I'm working on either riding the stationary bike or occupying my hands with something if I get vaguely snacky.
(If I'm actually, genuinely hungry I'll eat something small, but 2 years in I can tell the difference.)
I was having trouble with the fact that if I went two or three calories over MFP showed red numbers, and that messed with my head. So I set the calorie count to maintenance, and make sure to leave myself at least 500 but no more than 900 extra calories. That gives me a little variance cause some days are just a little higher calorie than others and seems to work better for me to try to "save" rather than have a limit.7 -
Hi everyone.
I'm new here, have tried to lose weight several times but I am a bit of a tortoise when it comes to losing weight and so I get discouraged and stop.
I'm Erika, 37, mum to a teenage son (2 dogs and various other pets) and girlfriend to Dan.
I am a brittle asthmatic and have a prolapsed lumbar disc meaning I can't walk far and am also not able to bend, stretch, twist or lift on medical advise ... so I am relying on diet alone.
Sw Jan 2022 217.6lbs I would like to lose at least 50lbs to try and get some pressure off my back and potentially reduce some of my sciatic pain (it won't go fully as the nerve is crushed and it may not change at all but losing weight def won't make it any worse lol)
I would love to make some friends to help encourage each other along the way xx8 -
Hi Erika, I'm new too! I'm Lynne. Nice to meet you!
@AlexandraFindsHerself1971 I feel the same way! That red really discourages me, even if I went 5-6 over like I did last night. It makes me feel like a failure. I hadn't thought to switch it to maintenance, thank you for the suggestion!
@Jesslan_Rose I am so, so sorry. Huge hugs.
I didn't do so well yesterday. I thought I was full and finished my tracking at 5 over, but the bowl of candy on the table leftover from the holidays got to me. Then hubby had Swedish meatballs and I stole two. I don't know what happened to my will power6 -
@LynneM1980 temptations are everywhere, all the time. Don't be so hard on yourself for a weak moment. You accomplished so much successfully the rest of the day. Today is a new day to start again! My thoughts this time, baby steps, mindset that this is my new reality. You've got this!!!!6

Good morning everyone! I'm just finding this board but have been utilizing MFP for about 6 months. I have battled my weight all my life. About 12 years ago, I lost 150 and got down to right under 200. It slowly came back on especially after the death of my mother. I started again in June at 330 and am down to 290 now. It has definitely been slower this time. I'm not able to be very mobile with bad knees and hip. Will be seeing about getting the hip fixed this year.
I have an awesome husband who is supportive and had his own battles with weight. And we recently added a new rescue dog to our household. My whys for losing are for my health, enjoying my grandkids and to be able to travel and have fun with my husband6 -
You do got this! Small steps is the winning way 😊💪
I weighed in today to see where I'm at and was please so see I've lost over two pounds already, I know the first week is a lot of water weight so I usually lose 8 or more but the numbers going down is still very motivating and exciting!
Last night I ended up eating dinner at 4 pm. My bf comes home from work at midnight and this is the time we usually watch TV and eat together nso I knew it would be a struggle. He always brings home food. I told him to grab me a small chili from Wendy's because it's the healthiest option there lol. I was actually feeling really hungry and went to bed at 7 pm to get rid of a headache so at midnight when I woke up and still felt yucky I knew I needed a few bites. Bless his manorexic soup he brought me a hot apple cider as well, my weakness!
I had a lot of calories left for the day so I took kna few sips of cider and a few bites, under half of the small chili and was please to log only 105 calories for half a small chili? Guess what, my headache went away and we watched the office lol. I was still under my calories for the day but since I had Asian food and Wendy's chili I knew or at least had a feeling I was going to weigh heavy so I pounded 2 bottles of water to flush out the salt at least.
9 nighttime tinkles later I wake up at 6 am hop on the scale and dropped over a pound since the prev day! Woohoo! I'm proud that I only ate a few bites and put the rest in the frig for a snack later. That's huge for me! I usually never stop eating til something is gone🙄
Small victories, small steps, lots of water.
Still battling headaches this is day number 4. Not sure if it's sugar withdrawal or what but I can't wait for my body to get used to it lol
Happy Tuesday!

I am so sorry for your loss. Hopefully awareness helps you stay on top of it during your grieving.6 -
Thank you! We do have this, together!!! We are going to rock it!!
Went and threw out all the candy, and took it to the curb. I've never been so sad to throw candy away before.5 -

I joined this group about a year ago, I have 12 names bookmarked now, so it must be a year . I think I have only posted once or twice, I lurk in the background and read everyone else's posts. In that time I have been as high as 249 and as low as 240.3 and overall just felt stuck in the 240's. With the new year, I am feeling determined to make the changes I need to to finally break that darn 240 mark and get into a new "decade". This morning I was 241 and those 230's are so close I can taste it, but my TOM is knocking on the door, so we'll see how this week and my weight plays out.
I have been pretty good so far this week, I meal planned and have been sticking to what I had planned and not straying from that, granted, it is only Tuesday. I definitely do better when I plan meals ahead of time, especially where supper is concerned. So my goal is to try to stay consistent with meal planning for the month of January. Figuring if I say I want to do this for just January it won't seem so overwhelming to me. I know that if I can do it for all of January, continuing into February will be relatively easy, I hope.
I also started riding my indoor bike again right after Christmas and want to stay consistent with that as well as start to incorporate some weight training at some point, we have some hand weights and dumb bells I can use. I am hoping to be more active in this thread and post more, I feel it will help keep me focused on my goals.4 -
A few days late to the party, but I've been tracking. I've decided to give myself a range for my goal this month- 4 to 7 pounds. Would LOVE to break 200 this month, but I think I will more realistically break it in mid February. I will have lost roughly 41 pounds in 6 months, and I am hoping to lose another 41 pounds in the next 9-10.
