Lost 1.6 lbs. Down to 240.4. Back to where I was before going to hospital.
Today, I am having sausage links for breakfast, perch for lunch, and ground beef for dinner.
I had mayo on my burger patties yesterday, after cooking them in butter and it was just too greasy. 86% fat is too high.. it tasted good, and I lost weight, but I am just going to eat meat, and use butter when I need to. Whatever that comes to, I will be OK with.
Today's menu, is closer to normal for me.. 78% fat.1 -
This is such an interesting read, well done for sticking to it! The weight Loss results are great, and if you feel better too then that's a bonus!0

I know people who have done Carnivore for years. I have decided for various reasons to quit it, and go back to Keto. Glad it was interesting. I felt the same way. I understand what works for me a lot better because I did this.
I lost about 42 lbs. in 83 days. minus the 4 high carb days in the hospital. I got better control of my blood sugars, and am exercising more at 240 than at 280.. and at such a low rate of carbs, I didn't feel any cravings. I had a good experience trying this.
I struggled at the start, and was all over the place at the start, while staying on plan, and to be honest, I see I had the same issue coming back out of the hospital, after having so many carbs.. less cravings, but it never felt like I was back in the groove, and I was searching for a rut to get into, like I did for days 10-60.. just wake up, eat, live life, and see results.
The hardest part of this, unlike a low-fat, low- calorie diet is mental.. on that, you physically want to cheat, but have loads of support, because your diet is " healthy ". People praise you, and cheer you on.. with Carnivore, you have a lot less support, but it is easy to stick to.. but mentally it is harder, because 80% of people don't do it, so HOW do you do it.. the guidelines are eat animal products, and no plant products.. mayo has soy, spices come from plants, and no one really agrees.. just do it your way, so you do, and if you don't lose for a day or 2, you start wondering if fish is too low in fat, will cheese stall your weight loss, and you start tweaking things, and driving yourself crazy. I got to a place where I felt on track then that was disrupted by a hospital stay, which happens every year or so when you are a heart patient, and haven't really gotten back on track, my diet meandering all over the place, despite still being ON Carnivore.. unless you think I needed to eat 2-3 lbs. of meat to be actual Carnivore.. some people do think that. I tended to eat 1-2 lbs. of meat, and higher fat.
So my brother asked me to join him doing Keto. He thinks that if we eat the same meals, he has a higher chance of sticking to it. He is hovering just above 300.. 302-306.. but lately was eating cereal, sandwiches, and a low carb dinner, with meat & veggies.. and his blood sugar was high, despite being on 2000 mg of Metformin.
He has a gouge in his leg from a car door, back in July.. the edge hooked his calf, and tore out a bunch of meat.. and it filled with blood and dried, and formed a deep scab.. called an eschar ( sp? ). It turned black in August, so he saw a wound care specialist, who worked with him, and got the eschar removed in October, which was a painful procedure, and now has to go back, and get it debrided regularly.. remove debris.. dead skin, and scabs, so the fresh skin will heal. It's complicated due to diabetes, and it hurts most of the time. Usually Ibuprofen helps, but the doctor says it will heal faster if his blood sugars are lower, and so he wants my help.. to do it with him. I offered once again to make his meals for him, even cook his eggs for breakfast.. I love cooking, but we tried that before and it failed... both of us sitting there, eating different meals, and he has twice the dishes to clean.
Between that, and not really feeling solid on Carnivore lately, I let myself be talked into switching back to Keto. I lost weight on that diet as well, although I do have to watch for cravings more when I eat 20 grams of carbs. Still, it isn't like I am going back to eating doughnuts or anything.. Carnivore is only 1 type of low carb.. just a stricter version.
So I made a plan for the week.. added veggies, and back on eggs for breakfast.. no sausage, but having tomatoes & green chiles with it for lunch. Dinner are things like chicken & broccoli, perch with green beans, or beef stew chunks with mushrooms & onion.. I can also eat peppers, and celery or cauliflower, BUT these last 2 are substitutes for the broccoli.. they have Vitamin K, which counteracts my Coumadin.. so I have to limit them. It seems as if cauliflower is simply white broccoli, with less flavor. I prefer broccoli, and probably will just eat what I am this week, plus add peppers in when I can afford them.. they are $6.99/lb.. I can buy steak for that, and it tastes better. I like yellow squash too, but it's one vegetable we don't get up here in Michigan for a few months.
I said when I started I would let you know if I cheated or quit, and I have. I may do Carnivore in the future, but probably for 30 days at a time, if I do... maybe if I hit a plateau, but I don't see any hindrance in weight loss, more than a few days, right now, since I am still 75-90 lbs. overweight. I'll lose on Keto as well, if I stick to it.
Have a great day.. be healthy!6 -
