My plans for the day got shifted, so I didn’t start on any homework till almost 6pm when I went to my local Starbucks. I sat at the table for several minutes, trying to breathe through a panic attack, before I went to order my drink. When a barista asked how my day was, I said not that great because I had a lot on my mind. She was kind and caring, something I rarely see now in public. I ordered my tea from another barista, and before I could pay, the first barista comped my drink. She said if giving me a free drink could make my day a bit better, she’d gladly do that. My stress levels are through the roof, and I was in a lot of pain today, physically and emotionally. But that one kind gesture about made me cry. It reminds me that people do see you, they do care even when you might be struggling and feel alone.4 -
