@AnnPT77 You are right. I am working hard to reverse it. This is just additional evidence of how important it is to do so.

The toughest part for me of over 60 is all the strange little stuff our bodies throw at us. Is it the beginning of something which will be really bad or is it just a little annoyance? And how long it takes for things to recover really sucks. Even being "healthy" pretty much every day can be a new surprise. sigh.

Sorry to whine. Just catching up here with folks.

I went swimming today. I was told not to swim last year, and missed it so much. I’m mainly using my arms, and I came out as soon as it started to hurt, but I feel so much better for it. I will go 2 or 3 times a week.
Thank you everyone for welcoming me. I think I need all the help I can get!
Thanks for the article. I’ve only had 8% protein today. That’s clearly something to watch

@sandramarshall200 good for you getting a swim in!

I too really have to focus on including protein with every meal/most snacks otherwise my day end total is not where I want it to be.

Thanks Ann for the summary, no way would I get through that article, but the info is certainly important for us to consider. Reinforces & enhances our collective body of knowledge.

I am off on another vacation tomorrow, cruising to Hawaii from Vancouver BC, what a treat not to have to fly somewhere first! It's a repositioning cruise (coming off the Alaska run) . Then we will stay in Maui for a few extra days before flying home. 🌞

Changed my calorie goal to maintenance and am taking a bathroom scale with me + will log daily with guestimates. Plan to walk a lot. Just wish I wasn't starting out 7 lbs heavier than my last vacation, prior holiday gain never did fully come off, will really need to buckle down on my return mid-October. 😫

    That's the plan! 🙂

@OhioDido welcome in! I have the same goals as you - I want to not only be here for my family, so I MUST lose weight and get more active, but I also want to be healthy enough to ENJOY being here for my family. I want to dance at my grandson's wedding (he's only 10 right now) - I want to see the birth of a great-grandbaby. I was not going to be able to do any of that on the road I was on. Feel free to add me as a friend - accountability buddies are great!

@BCLadybug888 I'm so jealous of the trip you're going on! I hope you have a great time! And I'm not sure if I should say Kudos to you for bringing your scale or say that you shouldn't worry about it you're on vacation. HOWEVER, if it were me, I not only be bringing my bathroom scale, I'd be bringing my food scale, resistance bands to take the place of my dumbbells, and downloaded workout routines I could do from my phone! LOL - so who am I to talk... KUDOS on bringing your scale!! You're rocking it! 🙌

@BCLadybug888 We love vacationing in Hawaii but have never done a cruise! I'm so interested in your experience. Do they have lots of activities to do while you're on your way to the islands?

@Pdc654 - we are on a large ship, largest class of Royal Caribbean fleet, and there is SO much to do we are running out of time and making some hard choices lol.
This afternoon at 5pm went to a Thomas Kincaid art exhibit at gallery, then we listened to classical guitarist at the bar, watched the sunset then we ate, now we're at a family game show and then off to a night club for the sounds of the Caribbean with a 6 piece band.
Last evening the 8 piece orchestra did a jazz set at the night club, then we went to the music hall and played pool until the Aerosmith tribute band did a concert and then hit a few slot machines in the casino! I am enjoying all the musical offerings!
There are fitness classes, dance lessons, a large gym, craft classes, trivia games, puzzles, scavenger hunts, wine tastings, Bingo, art auctions, a Sportsplex with volleyball, basketball, pickle ball, roller skating & bumper cars. Special simulators to try surfing & skydiving. There is a special floating conservatory. There are multiple pools and hot tubs. All sorts of talks and demos and outdoor movies. Disco parties Karaoke. It's insane how much there is to do 😆!

Tomorrow we booked a Spa package for after brunch. Before brunch going to a lecture on black holes & volcanoes. Loving it!

Hi everyone. I’ve been a member for a while but haven’t posted. I’ll soon be 65 and need to lose a little over 100 lbs. I’d like to do low carb because I hear it’s helpful with some medical issues but I always fail at it, it’s hard for me to give up carbs. I also have problems with caving in to my cravings. I get so frustrated with myself!!

Welcome!!! Are you looking for advice? Or just venting your frustration with yourself? Either works, but will generate two different responses from people 🙂

I find that the more carbs I eat, the more carbs I crave. If that's a problem that you also have, maybe play around with how many carbs you eat till you find your "sweet spot" i.e. you're eating enough to feel satisfied, but not so many that you crave them all the time.

At the end of the day, weight-loss is about calories in calories out (CICO). If you burn more than your eat, you'll lose weight. If you eat more than you burn, you'll gain. Pretty simple. In fact, it's not complicated at all. We're playing the long game here so you have time to experiment with different ways of eating to find what works best for you and is sustainable over the long haul. Just always keep in mind: CICO.

Guess a little of both. I think emotional stress has a lot to do with it as well. I know I definitely need to move more. I’m not near as active as I should be.
