The latest episode of Food Glue, my son Tom's podcast, has quite a long mention of me around midway. (I listen to it on Spotify for free, but I'm sure it's on Apple as well)
I hope one day he will invite me on as a guest.

For most of my life I've enjoyed holiday events and customs and happily participated in all the preparation and fuss. One day I decided that I'd had enough and stopped. Jake likes to have a festive meal for holidays but now with his commitment to low sodium we have simple meals instead. For Thanksgiving we'll have baked chicken thighs with mashed potatoes and gravy and frozen corn. He'll have a piece of the apple strudel pie he bought last week and froze in pieces.

Barbie, much like you, in the past I participated in some holidays quite happily. But I find that I have no specific memories of my kids' first Christmas with me, or others that I know within reason I was part of, but can't remember. In my previous life before Corey, being military and then a military wife for 27 years, I didn't get home much. When I did, I avoided Christmas. Someone always had a breakdown (usually an in-law) and everything went pear-shaped after that.
I do remember other things that meant so much, like seeing my daughter for the first time after her Army basic training and bursting into tears. Like trying to teach Johnny to drive and realizing very quickly that Corey needed to teach him, not me. I am not patient enough to be a teacher. And, by the way, he's 28 now and still doesn't have a driver's license, nor does he want one. I may have ruined him.
I did ask Corey to stop and buy a bone-in turkey breast on the way home. I want to make some bread tomorrow... because the turkey breast is purely to have leftovers and make sandwiches. Homemade fresh bread, lots of mayonnaise and turkey. Sounds yummy to me!
The neighbors in the little house below us have apparently abandoned the property and their dogs - their front door has stood wide open for almost a week and their dogs' gate is wide open, with no people in sight. The dogs aren't vicious or anything, which is good... I informed the city police of the abandonment, but no idea if they will or can do anything about it. Just very weird.
Ah, well...
Time to actually get something done.
Love y'all,

Lisa do you have an animal humane society or rescue organization near you? I would be worried about the dogs not having food or water. That’s sad it’s like animal cruelty at the worst! A week is a long time to go without food or water.

I feel so lucky that my younger son is taking the strain for Christmas, with me pre-preparing a few things to take over. I will do the pudding next weekend. It has to be gluten free, but I've got all the ingredients, including gluten free suet.
I'm at the stage in my life when nothing is more important than my peace and calm. Any excitement or hassle has to be rationed out carefully. If I do one thing one day, then I need a day to regain my balance. If I do too many things, then my writing gets squeezed out, and that is not good for my mental health. My writing is my priority.
Exercise, writing, rest, and good food are the planks that hold my house together. Commitments, obligations, too much socialising, trying to fit too much in, causes the nails to fall out. I have had to learn to say No a lot.
Wishing you all health and strength and enjoyment as you take on the responsibilities of the season. I know some of you love it!
Love from across the pond, where the season hasn't really started yet. Heather UK xxxxxxxx
I am this way already. When did this phase start for you? I have had a month of a lot of being around people and I'm exhausted. I don't want to talk to anyone for any reason. My voice got quite scratchy, because I'm not used to talking so much. I'm done. I'm hiding away for the next 2 weeks.
After a trip, I need weeks to recover. After going out, I need a day off before I go out again. I suspect it's because I don't really care for being around people that much.
I fear my desire to be a hermit is only going to increase as I age, which can be detrimental. However, I truly hate trying to be someone I am not or don't want to be. Years ago, I forced myself to do activities with people, such as hiking, but I really didn't enjoy it then and I enjoy it even less now. I'd just rather be alone.

Ha ha ha....some days, it definitely does. We don't have "winter" and I don't mind leaving the house. I just don't want to meet people. I guess my "problem" is the people.

“ ! I am still drinking coca cola in the mornings! Doing better this evening than I was this morning.
Best,
Rosemarie from Georgia”
Could it be the Coke in the morning making you feel bad?
Watched Elton John’s farewell concert at Dodger Stadium last night. You could tell he was feeling his age, and he didn’t sing the high notes but manage to sound good all the same. DH enjoyed it as well!

Tina - I've always been the same, but I used to feel guilty about it. Now I don't. I used to try to fit in and please people. Now I am pleased with the people I choose to be around. I have decided I am an 'ambivert' , someone who can do the social thing for a little while and enjoy it, but then needs a decent recovery time. You may be a true introvert, and there's nothing wrong with that. Or you may be depressed because you are not giving yourself enough alone time.
Knowing our limits is most of the battle.

Welcome and join in when you can! This is a fast moving thread and sometimes I just skim. But it is a great place to share and receive tips that work for us. Everyone is different so pick what works for you!

I was delighted, when I turned up at the school, to see my son , who told us that he has, as of yesterday, managed to secure a rental for the 6 months their house will be in its renovation stage. Phew!!!!! It's right on the sea front, opposite Hove Plinth. A 3 bed apartment, not in the greatest condition, especially a tired kitchen and bathroom, but a superb position. Such a load off my mind. Starts on January 1st.
The girls may be cycling to school with a parent, but they will have to see how it goes. Max can still catch his school bus.
So happy!
We can bring Bea back to ours on Tuesdays, or stay in the park, or amble slowly down to the seafront. Will be fabulous for the spring and summer!!!

Its a dark, blustery morning on the island.....I have the side table lamp on, so I can do my daily crosswords and type yo you all.🤗💖
Tomorrow buying a chocolate pie and can of whipping cream to bring to my new friends house for Thanksgiving. She asked if we like apple pie. I do but husband doesn't. I volunteered to bring the chocolate pie, which turns out to be her husbands favorite. She asked if we play games, or card games. I stated husband did play pinochle, and whist. She asked if we played bridge, nope. I an so awful counting and math in general, I am hesitant. Heck, when we ho shopping and in the last aisle I add up my cart, I count with my fingers like a child! I know right? So it should be interesting!

Mary - the town we live in has neither, and if they did, wouldn't have a place to put them. The ones in the nearest towns won't come out--they have more than they can handle where they are. The dogs have been gone now since Saturday night, so hopefully they've moved on to somewhere to find food and water. We don't have the time or the heart space for strays - there is no week that goes by where a dog isn't dumped near our home, and we can't save them all.dustflame415 wrote: »Loving this.. DustFlame - Welcome! We have more than a few who are over 70, so you're in good company. Just keep coming back, and let us know what you want us to call you and about where you are. It helps us keep everyone straight!
Machka - your poor nose! It looks quite painful. Hope the next surgery is both successful and a less painful recovery.
Gratitudes:
21 song. So many, just impossible to pick one. Nessun dorma is right up there, though.
22 story. I am most grateful that the story of my life sent me here, and that the ending has not yet been written.
Later, y'all,
Much love,
