Lovely to see you, KJ. 🤩
I've had a very quiet day. Just a bit of cooking, and paying the window cleaner online. I made Chinese crispy duck with pancakes. Very yummy. Nice to feel able to use the oven again, now it's cooler.
Watched the second episode of The Body in the Library. They don't seem to have any more Joan Hicksons scheduled after the third episode. Boo!
Cleaner tomorrow. No Bea pick up on Tuesday. Some kind of school thing going on. 😕
I've got another 2 months free from Readly. This is my third free two months. I have always put a date in my diary for cancellation, and it's worked fine. I do like homes magazines, but you can have anything, including newspapers, from anywhere. All for nothing. Today I read Homes and Antiques.
Love to all. Thinking of the sadness in Texas. Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Hey, kids...
Good smells coming from the kitchen, as Corey's putting together a lasagna, and he is really good at lasagna…
Trying to stay even further from the news than usual, but the news out of Texas is as relentless as the rain there, which is still coming down.
KJ - What a bright spot seeing you pop up, though! Enjoy the time with those boys, I know you will. Congrats on the pounds gone and the good things added, and welcome home...
Got all the edge trimming done this morning, then a shower to wash off the grub, and a run down to Walmart alone, so the man could enjoy his Sunday morning...one of us will get the mowing done tomorrow.
Later, my darlings, hope it's been a lovely, peaceful Sunday,

Barbie - I think it's a great idea to get the serviceman out to clean those filters and and you can watch him while he does it. I faced a similar dilemma after DH passed, I knew something had to be done had to be done with the HVAC. The serviceman gave me a little tutorial and said why not just get disposable filters, change them every 6 months or year depending on if I'm burning firewood. No more cleaning the old ones. He can also answer any other questions you might have about the system.
I'm getting to be like a four year old asking a million questions every time I get a serviceman or installer out here, lol. I have to be inquisitive now that I don't have DH's brain to pick anymore.
Kelly - you have a lot going on at your house! It will be nice having DD and family back where you can hug those grands without having to hop on an airplane. Thank you so much for the update! Good job on the weight loss too.
Michele - wow, a cruise! How nice of Jess. Sounds like it's going to work out great with your regular trips to FL.
Tracey - those twins are adorable. Super nice that your daughter and her DH are willing to put up a "granny cottage" for you and Rodger in your older years.
Barbara - you got my attention when you said your friend brought the cutest little Schnoodle puppy to dog group. I'm like Pip - memories of Sophie our Schnoodle came flooding back when I took her to puppy training. She was pretty young but did so well. I still grieve her loss. 🤒 She was our special "kid."
Pip - I love how you have made a special place of honor for your "kids". They (and you and Kirby) deserve it. I saved some of Sophie's hair too. 😪
Debbie - I hope things are calming down at your house now that MIL has passed, and your DH is feeling the tension starting to leave. Wishing you the best.
Reminder - tomorrow is Weekly Check-in day already!

Hello my friends! Wow it's almost evening! I got lost in a good book for much of the day. I did assemble my rowing machine Yay! But I haven't put the batteries in or found the app yet. I stopped to do my self care meditation and exercise bike and to check in with you all!
Dad's trick of the day was leaving his underwear on the kitchen floor. I'm afraid to ask what happened.
Machka I loved the firefly cartoon!
Terri I have to go back and find that poem. I missed it somehow, and everyone likes it!
Lisa if Marie Kondo needs help having a messy house, I know a thing or two!
Lanette Yay for the suitcase carry!
Rebecca Yay for sticking with logging!
Pip more hugs for you!
Barbara Yay for the soreness going away!
Michele Yay for fresh corn! And extra yay for the cruise! You will have a grand time.
Tracey Yay for quitting Coke and chips!
KJ good to see you back!
Barbie you did well with the filters. My Dad used to do all that, and I'm not prepared. We have several burned out light bulbs that I dread changing because of the ladders.
Tina have a great trip!
Debbie more hugs to you!
May you all be happy, healthy, safe and free!

😀 Margaret, so many thanks to you for suggesting the You Tube videos. The first thing I learned was that I have a natural inclination to brush off advice but I got past that and went right to the TV where I found a bunch of videos for my system. I watched three of them and by the end was ready to go back to the direction book and re read in light of what I'd seen. Then I followed the directions I'd seen on the videos including taking a photo before I took anything off so I'd be sure to put it back right side up and before long, the work was done. The hardest part was locking Annie in the back yard because she barks at the vacuum.
😀 Lanette, the furnace and heat pump were inspected and cleaned in December and the same will happen next December. I remember from the installation in 2011, that the filters have to be cleaned whenever the warning light comes on or even more frequently if you want. There is no option for replaceable filters. This turned out to be really easy.
😀 Annie, when the light burned out in the unusual overhead light in the kitchen, I hired a handyman to replace it. I was so grateful that I paid him more than he asked.
😀 I turned the thermostat down on the cooler so I'd know if the system worked and am enjoying a few minutes of cooler air right now along with the satisfaction of having done a scary job.

Terri: I love that poem. Years ago you posted your poem Spring Morning. Every line resonated with me, especially the reference to the crystals in the windows casting rainbows in the room. I have that poem on the wall over my desk. Thank you!
Barbie: Bravo for tackling the furnace filter.
Lanette: Thanks for the cat video. Can't let Mars watch that or he'll get ideas.
Tina: Have a great trip. Glad you'll be able to grab Voltaren while there.
Beth: Belated Happy Birthday.
Pip: Love the Yogi memorial and framed photos. Are Lucy and Chispas going to LV with you?
Michele: I'm thrilled to hear you will get to go on a cruise. Hey, if you ever want to travel without Vince, give me a holler.
KJ: You are amazing. Thanks for the updates to your ever-busy life. Dang, I can't believe your grands are growing up so fast.
It was a nice 4th. I worked at Red Rocks where Blues Traveller is the perennial show. The drummer and tour photographer remembered meeting me there last year. I have a special place in my heart for that date because it was 2 years ago at that event that I met N. The Golden Goobers will be heading out on our 10th date at the end of this month. Never, ever, did I think something as wonderful as a fun new relationship could come after dealing with the loneliness and grief of losing DH and DB. Keep looking up, friends. Miracles happen. Stay well. We can do this.

I hope everyone is well. I am trying to catch up with you all!
Okie: Good news that you are safe!
Barbie: Values are important in decluttering that is for sure. One podcast says, "If everything is important, nothing is important". Values are also a struggle for me in budgeting! Saving is best of course!
Rebecca: Perhaps several cards to your DIL and Athena would soften her up. I had trouble with my in-laws and would have loved a card from my mother in law! I see now going through the cards she sent my husband that she generally ended the card/note hoping I was well. But I never saw these cards and notes!…Until now!…a little too late!
Are you much older than her own parents? My husband was older so his parents were older and it was not easy. One little story is I tried to get them Christmas gifts and in my family we take the XMAS gift, say thank you and if it is not right for us, we re-home it or donate it. They were trying to get me to return things and telling me this wasn't right and so forth. I never tried to give them a XMAS gift again! They really didn't seem to understand I had a full time job.
Also they lived in Florida, so I really wanted to be at the beach. I only had 10 vacation days a year! I was 32! They and my husband really wanted to visit. Does your DIL work? How many vacation days a year does she have?
Tina: I understand Savannah Banana tickets are hard to find!
Doing well here! Went to fireworks last night! They were fun!
Best,
Rosemarie from GA

Thank you all for the birthday wishes!
Barbie … congratulations on accomplishing a task that you didn't think you could do!
KJ … glad to hear your daughter and her family will soon be with you! Good work on losing weight!
Lanette … we did not get a split king mattress. The box springs are considered split, but the mattress is not. And, interestingly, my husband is sleeping like a baby on the new mattress without any back pain. He still has back issues … in fact he'll be seeing his neurosurgeon this week as his back has deteriorated … but no back pain while in the new bed. All this time we've been working around what he thought his back needed and he had no idea what he actually needed!
Today was warmer (90 degrees), but still lower humidity. After church I decided to clean the pool .. two hours of skimming and vacuuming and then my son decided to take his dog on a swimming lesson. Oh, the hair! Our lab is 4-1/2 years old and not yet been in the pool (long story). We all ended up getting in the pool and calmly showing Cecil how to "paddle" and find the safe spot (the cement stairs) in the pool. He was having none of it except for sitting on the top stair. I'm thinking we should get him a doggie life vest.
Dinner was fresh Walleye that a friend had caught this past weekend. Pan fried … not the healthiest method of cooking, but I did a shallow fry since I was out of cooking oil, and used olive oil instead. Very tasty.
Just remembered we have to drop my husband's truck off at the service garage, so off I go here. The truck has 215,000 miles one it and we need to get it repaired to trade it in. Keeping my fingers crossed that it won't be too expensive.

Thank you!! Yes, it has been a long one and will take time to find his new normal.
We are planning on going over and start clearing out more of the stuff from her house. Things he wasn't quite ready to get rid of while she was still alive. It will be good for the kids to have a bit more room. She was there over 60yrs so there is a LOT of stuff. We don't have to do any of it at any certain time- just want to get started. At least get the kitchen finished and some in the living room
I really want to open the drapes/blinds/windows- air it out. She always kept it closed up. Musty and dark in there. Linen closet has been partially done- need to donate a bunch of sheets and towels- don't need 20 sets of sheets and at least 20-30 towels. One full dresser looks to be full of table clothes/placemats, mostly Christmas. We will tackle her room after that I think. He has but things that he wasn't ready to get rid of in there when we were cleaning out his old room that the kids are using and the down stairs area that they are using for their desks/computers/tv, etc-their hang out space. They don't use the living room at all right now, because of all the stuff there.
I would love to see fireflies in person. We don't have them out here. Not sure if they have them in Alabama but I don't think I ever saw any if they do(I was only there 6 months, the rest of the time I have lived in CA)

Allie – so very sorry about Tom’s cousin. I know you’ll be there for Tom when it happens
Worked some on the puzzle. Whenever I do, I need to put a timer on.
About the cruise – I’m pretty excited since I’ve never been ona cruise. Wish Vince would be more excited. I mentioned to him about going in May since we’ll need to go check on the bathroom and all I got was a “do you think we’re going to go down. How will we pay for the bathroom” I just told him, “we’ll find a way. To me, your being able to breathe is more important”.
So many times I’ve mentioned to Vince that he needs to write down what all he does so that if I need it, I have the information. For some reason, he hasn’t. Maybe it’s that he doesn’t want to accept the fact that things happen.
Tina – have a real great trip. We need pictures...hint
barbie – congrats on getting the filter cleaned. You rock
Beth – hope the truck isn’t expensive.

Yes, though I do send birthday cards, boxes of treats, and she thanks me, it goes no further. She has always been kind of shy.
Her Mom and I are friends on FB and chat periodically about our kids. We are about the same age. She is divorced.

Lisa,
MmmMmm, lasagna! Funny story. Many years ago with each layer husband had taught me to pat down each layer with a spatula. So I was doing that, each layer, then cheese, (no ricotta because husband hates it), then sauce, and when I got done to the top I was so proud. Baked it and sliced him up a piece. I had squished out all the sauce so it was noodles upon noodles! Lol!

I love fire flies! I don't think I have seen any in Middle GA recently.
It is wonderful that you are helping your DH with his Mom's house. I think it would be emotional and somewhat overwhelming otherwise. Also great there is no time pressure.
My mother just gave up independent living and had been living in an over 55 community for 10 years. She had more stuff there then i realized. He was taking her back to the apartment multiple week ends to sort her things. I didn't mean to put that on him. I didn't realize there was so much. But he is about 60 years old and still works and is patiently working with my mother while she decides which tea cups to keep and struggles to let the rest go. And he is offering to store things for her. Me I am decluttering. This house will either be sold or be "funeral ready".
The other thing I remembered about my in-laws is I wanted to eat near the water or over a canal. They felt I was extravagant. I really wasn't. Pizza or sandwiches would have been fine! I just wanted the ambiance of the water! They wanted a local deli they enjoyed and Cracker Barrel.
LOL! See, I am not up for this. I would like another relationship…with 1 person..a man…but it won't be that. There will be children and maybe even living parents! Horror!
Best,
Rosemarie from GA

Barbie - good job cleaning the filters. 😉
I have a friend who says YouTube has prevented him from committing "wrench rage" when he's working on his car. 😁
Annie - so excited for you that your rowing machine has arrived. 😉
Allie - have fun! Sorry your mini I-pad took off. Sad to hear about Tom's uncle. Sure makes us realize we are getting older when people we love pass away.
Beth - so very very happy the new mattress is comfortable for both of you.😍 Hope the truck repair bill isn't too steep. We always loved freshwater fish, Walleye sounds great. My DH's favorites were Northern Pike and just about any fish from the Great Lakes and Canada. He did not like ocean fish.
Rosemarie - your in-laws were something else - that would be very hard to cope with again. We need to see if Rori's N has any brothers that just like to stop by for a day or two, go out to eat or to a show or just sit and talk on the porch all afternoon with some lemonade. Then hit the road for a few months with nice phone calls in between until the next visit. 😁 I'd be up for it too.
This gal, Dolly Day from Ashford AL, keeps coming up in my Facebook feed and I get a kick out of her videos. She's a gal in her mid 50's looking for a man and she finds them on dating apps. She tells a lot of stories about the guys she finds on these apps and her adventures - she's a digital creator so is probably borrowing stories from friends too or just plain making them up. 😁 But still, I love her accent and wonder if Rosemarie, Carol, Kay and Mo, our gals who live in the south, have similar accents. I had a good friend who was from Dallas that sounded just like her.
Some of the conversations are a little risque when she talks about the pictures some of the guys send to her. Yes, yuck. What I really like are the comments from viewers who tell their own stories.😆

you are going to get itchy shucking corn in your bathing suit!!! Shucked a TON as a kid. We grew an acre every summer.
We would have the cousins/aunts/uncles/church ladies all come out- sit in a circle in the garage with a huge pile of corn in the middle. After shucking it went into the house- blanched then cut off the cob and into freezer bags(Seal a Meal bags). We grew enough for all the families. We used a sheet of plywood on the kitchen table as the cutting board and about 4 or 5 of us cutting it-filling large Tupperware bowls up with it. Everyone had their job- shucking, cutting, bagging. Mom did the blanching and icing down the corn.
Leaving it on the cob took up too much room- we had two large commercial size freezers(mom still does) but that was for all of our meat(we raised all of our own meats-beef,pork,chickens, rabbits, plus goats and sheep but we sold them, didn't eat them) plus all the other veggies. Mom did can most of the veggies though.Debbie

Barbie Proud of you for figuring out the furnace…I like the comment about taking pictures to make sure you put it back together correctly.
As I took down blinds I did mark brackets right and left in the kitchen Unfortunately The blinds will not fit on the new windows. I am still deciding what I will do. I still can use the drapes in the den because the new windows did not affect how they go on.

Hello Ladies, and Happy Belated Independence Day.
Lanette, I never did get an accent. My daughter has one, but my husband, I, and son do not. DH, many have said, has a New England accent because he went to boarding school in Connecticut, but he was from NE. I have a Californian accent. Many parents at the hospital ask me where I am from. I was born and raised in Southern California. I lived in Chicago for 15 years after spending 24 years in California.
Happy Belated Birthday, Beth!
I hated leaving Rose alone for the 4th. When I got home, I could tell by the remnants of fireworks that they had done them in front of my house instead of down the street at the dead end. My poor dog hid in the back of the pantry. This is something she never did before. Tomorrow, I will get up early and sweep all of the remnants of the fireworks before garbage pickup.
As for work, my little guy tricked me again. He held my finger and bit me again. His mom called and asked at 3:45 am what he was doing. I told her that we have a routine. I let him watch "Bluey", then it's bath time, book time, and then lights out with soft lullaby music, and he's out like a light. Bedtime is no later than 9 pm. She told me that her 2-year-old was still up wanting her to read a book to her. I told her to bathe her daughter, read a book, play soft music, lower the lights, and put her to bed between 8 and 9 pm. Begin the bedtime routine at 7:00 pm. I think some people could benefit from parenting classes. I would have taken "How to parent a teenage daughter". The nurses that I taught are having babies and seeking support as well. I had a support group because my co-workers were parenting at the same time I was. I still found myself in tears, with the hormones. It was better with Julia, cause she was a good baby and was quite ritualistic.
Pip, I love that they took Yogi's paw prints, and his pictures are priceless. I told my friend Linette that we should go on a road trip to Arkansas, and let Rose go swimming in the lake and enjoy the state parks. I want to do it for her 10th birthday, which is coming up in August. We will see if I can make it happen. I took her to the dog store to pick out two toys, and it is always the same: a new Muffy and a red ball. The squeaker has been removed from the ball thanks to her. I tear up looking at Yogi and knowing that he is gone. I was always struck by how handsome and intelligent he was. You are great with training. I am terrible at it. If Rose gets out, she runs all over the neighborhood. Some things I taught Rose stuck, but she does not come when called outside the confines of the house and backyard. I took classes with my first dog and Rose. The German lady said I was "useless". DH was better at it with Rusty, but not with Rose. Rose is smart and knows that she can get away with murder with me.
Sorry that I am so loquacious. My dad always said that I talk too much:). Have a great night, everyone.
Xo,
Mo in Mississippi

Carol, yep they are all very independent, the Navy helped them in that area. I think my son does what his wife wishes to do most weekends. And though he seemed excited to have come down to my sisters bday, it was wifes call on if they went or not. Or maybe Athena had a party to go to, or Eli was sick, I was never told the reason.

Kelly - I’m excited for you that you’ll have your family closer, but a few months with 5 people moving in will be a lot.
I’m sure you’ll handle it all very well though.Lisa - Yes you’re right. I actually lost weight when I quit smoking because I was so fearful of gaining. I just need to get consistent again. I know I can do it.
Rodger lives for tv. He prefers to be in the bedroom watching tv more than enjoying his family. His father was the same though.
Barbie - currently I can’t cancel our cable and we are getting a 40% discount. Our friend that worked for the company was part of a massive layoff and she gets a lifetime discount as long as it’s never cancelled. She is living in an RV so she placed her discount on our service. When she decides to use that herself again we’ll have to make a decision.
I change the furnace filters here, I never thought of vacuuming them.
Carol - the treats sure make the scale climb faster than ending them and having the scale go back. I don’t understand why it all can be in proportion.
Rebecca - I text. Keep up with you ladies, scroll FB and read a lot of Threads on my phone, I guess it’s really no different than watching tv all evening.
Speaking of energy - I have been struggling terribly the last few years and started HRT 8 or 9 weeks ago. I tell you I am feeling alive for the first time in years in the last couple of weeks. I am sleeping better, I actually want to get up and putter in the evenings. I feel so much better. Now to get rid of the brain fog, the doctor said that can take longer. We have a follow up in 8 weeks.
I love watching all of the Grands grow up, it’s sad it happens so fast though.
Fireflies - my childhood home was an old farmhouse with no insulation so very hot in the summer. My bedroom window was the double sash kind that you put a screen in to hold it up in the summer. Because of the heat I would move my bed to right beside the window. It overlooked a field and I would fall asleep to the fireflies all night long. I haven’t seen any in years and I miss them.
I made lasagna for supper tonight too.
It is late - I’m usually in bed by this time but I’ll got caught up in a show on Disney called Paradise.

Hi!
Not sure what happened other than life. I have been unable to "sit" still for very long lately. That means I have gotten several projects taken care of. House dusted and vacuumed. A couple of bins gone through and stuff put in appropriate places. Cars shows with DH. Got the front flower beds weeded and edged yesterday in the morning. It looks so pretty. I was only going to do 15 mins. Did driveway bed the day before. Shaped up a couple of bushes that have to be shaped mid summer, then they will bloom in spring. We actually had a LONG WEEKEND! We closed shop at 2 on Thursday. And after lots of convincing we were not only closed on Friday, but also SATURDAY! WIN!!! DH was very lost with so many days off. I only wish I had taken more time to get some work done, but it is still waiting for me. I enjoyed time with family and friends.
I woke up at 130 this morning. Struggled to go back to sleep even after Tory cuddling with me and purring away. Finally got up at 230 and caught up with everyone's adventures. Fireflies are abundant again this year in Ohio. I remember chasing them as a child. Now I watch the cats do it! Fireworks- My shepherd was terrified, Pyrenees didn't care. Tory was unaffected, but Cali stayed hidden behind the head board until they stopped.
Hugs to those grieving.
Grateful to have you all in my life! You continue to inspire, challenge, and encourage us every day.
Welcome to the new ladies!
Should try to get some work done. SIL is on vacation through Wednesday so busy work week I am sure. I have massage tonight. Grandson is coming over Tuesday after work to change the oil in my Flex. His family is taking it to SC to see my sister the end of the month. Wednesday I get my hair colored. Thursday, my sister is coming to stay with me for the night!!!! I am excited. It will be the first time she has been to our home since we got married in 2009. She has never stayed here. So it should be busy, yet fun.
Lots of Love,
Kylia in Ohio enjoying the hot temps as long as there is a breeze.

A little kitten loving. Yes, it was after fireworks so late. ;)

Tracey - So glad the HRT is helping! I was not optimistic in the slightest about the estrogen cream helping my pain if standing for more than a few minutes, and it really has been amazing. Complete PITA to accomplish on a three-times-a-week schedule, and worth every minute. Our bodies genuinely miss the hormones we were born with, apparently. And we don't realize how much energy we've lost until we get it back. Interestingly enough, not a single UTI since I started using the estradiol cream, either. Don't know whether that's causation or correlation, but am pleased!
Mo - I don't think you're too talkative at all. 😂 And if you slide up through Arkansas with Rose and Linette, I want a visit! There are lakes pretty much everywhere… The picture is from Devil's Den State Park, which is just 20 miles from us. Just five miles up the road from us is a place called Natural Dam that we really enjoy.
Egg will not be fond of Rose, but she will eventually come back home. 🐈⬛😾🐱 Cranky little kitty, you know. She was still checking every couch and chair last night for stranger danger, just in case Patrick was still there two nights later!
Barbie - The sense of satisfaction when we accomplish something we weren't sure we could is just awesome, isn't it? With other comments and yours, I tried thinking about what I do that Corey couldn't, as well as the other way around.
I know he would be lost with my bill paying chores… I've tried to make sure he knows how to find it all, but home and car insurance came up last week, and I realized I hadn't put them on the list, because they're once or twice a year. I'm going to get the bill-paying list caught up and make sure to add the insurances on this week. In all honesty, there is nothing Corey does for us that I CAN'T do, but there are a few things he does that I don't want to do! Like working, for instance… 🤣
Fireflies - We've had tons this year, after them being totally missing the last couple of years. I think it has to do with the humidity, honestly. If it doesn't stay wet enough, they can't reproduce or something. That's a guess, by the way, I have no idea. But this year is the wettest spring in a long, long time, and we have a bumper crop of fireflies. Love sitting out in the sunroom at dusk and just watching them dance - now that's MY kind of fireworks!
I didn't take this one - it was taken by Evan Leith on Unsplash - a 10-minute exposure at Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge in New Hampshire. Just lovely.
It makes me feel peaceful, and I'm still trying to find things that make me feel peaceful. The blaming of people and processes has begun in my home state of Texas, maybe because anger is easier than grief, and it just breaks my heart. More lives ruined, in the end, because of a tragedy they absolutely would have prevented if they possibly could.
I'm going to go slap some cathartic mud on a wall in my spare bedroom, I think. Corey's taking a day off, but he'll be outside working today, and I'm just going to stay inside. Still sweaty work, but satisfying, nonetheless.
Later, y'all,
Love,
