Snack ideas

does anyone have any low calorie/healthier snack options? I’m a huge snacker but want to avoid the ones I gravitate towards (m&ms, chips, etc) as much as possible, any just as yummy but more health conscious ideas? Thanks!

Pickles (not just cucumber pickles - any low-calorie veggie-type pickle), lowfat string cheese, dry-roasted edamame, crispy chickpeas or lentils (homemade or commercial), hard-boiled eggs, raw veggies with a low-calorie dip, jerky (read the ingredients list, some are more caloric or have unusual ingredients you might not prefer health-wise), Greek yogurt (calorie efficient flavored ones, or I like plain nonfat Greek yogurt mixed with chocolate peanut butter powder and frozen berries), whole fruit, . . . . etc.

IMO, there are two ways to think of snacks in a reduced-calories context: They may be negligible calories so easy to fit in, or they may have somewhat more calories but make some reasonable contribution to overall nutrition for those calories. Of course they should taste good, like anything we eat, but exactly what that means is very individual.

Personally, I also think it's fine to fit some actual treat food in now and then just for pleasure - anything a person can eat in moderation, really. Quite a few people routinely fit in small individually-wrapped good chocolate, for example.

If you think you can within your calorie budget - I'd say have some M&Ms if that's what you want but then ADD something more nutritive to it - I'd focus on something with protein/fiber if you can.

Add some raw fruit to your M&Ms. That's a great snack. You get some of the little sweet treat you need plus something that is more nutritious and will help keep you fuller (fiber).

Another example: you want chips and dip…make the dip out of greek yogurt or blended cottage cheese for more protein in it.

I always buy little things to snack on like blueberries, cherries, mega omega trail mix… or vegetables with healthy dip.

I replace sugar treats with dates. Make cottage cheese/protein ice cream and or popsicles. Walnuts, pumpkin seeds… and lots of prepped fresh veggies with hummus.

My go to snacks are popcorn, cashews, laughing cow cheese with wheat thins, apple slices with laughing cow cheese or peanut butter, deli ham roll up with mustard and a bit of swiss cheese, cottage cheese with some canned pineapple or peaches, or packaged cookies such as ginger snaps or vanilla wafers with a fresh cup of coffee when I am craving comfort food!

I weigh it all for portion sizes and adjust my choices with what I coud use for my macros that day.
