    I have a lot of catching up to do. Lol.

    @SummerSkier I love your new goal! You will bring so much sunshine to the world around you. I am so glad you are feeling better. Your new suncatchers are so beautiful.

    @Michieb125 You are an inspiration with your exercises. I am so proud of you. I am struggling to get my strength training in, but you definitely pepped me up for tomorrow's workout.

    @hcoleman232 Thanks for the pep talk. I really appreciate it. Wow, sounds like quite a workout with the acorns. That is awesome the 5k in December. I also enjoyed your Haiku.

    @snowshoe072 Love the books you are reading. Great job hitting all your habits. I love that you are making time for your guitar. Your saying about if you don't make time then you will be rustier than you are now. I have been using that for my ST. It really helps. Even a little bit of time is better than no time. Thank you for posting that. I needed a reminder of it.

    @77tes I LOVE your outfit. Looks like you had a great time. You and your sister have the same wonderful smile. That is so cool. Looks like you two have a lot of fun together. I love the energy of a room full of dancing people having fun. I am enjoying your poems so much. I haven't read some of these in years.

    @Wiseinwellness I love that your husband is making Thanksgiving dinner. That is wonderful. You are doing amazing on your snacking plan.

    2. Was very busy. We were going to pop out and get something, but hubby stepped up and cooked hamburgers while I worked. A real blessing. He made me two so I could have one for supper.
    3. Lunch was baked potato with a tuna package. I made chili for supper even though it was 88 degrees outside. Quick and easy.
    4. Lunch at Cat fish restaurant for lunch. Pack of tuna and banana for supper.

    October 7 - Didn’t get a walk in Monday morning since my sister was heading home,  so I walked in the afternoon with DD#2 and Lucy.  Unfortunately, I left my phone at home, but here’s a picture of the full moon and a poem by Emily Dickinson.

    image.jpg

    "The morns are meeker than they were,
    The nuts are getting brown;
    The berry's cheek is plumper,
    The rose is out of town.
    The maple wears a gayer scarf,
    The field a scarlet gown.
    Lest I should be old-fashioned,
    I'll put a trinket on."

    No joy to the world yesterday. I was actually pretty grouchy all day and did not see any opportunities to complement …. But I knew going in that if I did see anything I would not fake it so all good.

    Enjoying the poetry and the photos! ❤️

    Quick pop by before I pick up my dear lifelong friend at the airport today. We’re taking off for a little road trip to some California Gold Rush Old Towns and she will fly home Saturday evening. We sure don’t have the US history like the east coast but fun all the same.

    Will be eating out (not my favorite) and luckily walking quite a bit!
    Happy I did my 30 minute yoga hip and low back openers yesterday.
    This morning I’ll get my hand weight session before the day gets away from me.
    I’ll be rooting for you and your new habits while I’m away!

    @SummerSkier , ah, sorry! I’ve had days like that.

    @Michieb125 , enjoy the Gold Rush Country! I lived outside of Angels Camp for a while back in the 70s, so we did lots of exploring. There was even an old mine shaft on the property.  But in that area, it’s a rare property that doesn’t have an old mine.  Good for you for getting your strength and yoga done before your travels. 👏

    October 8- Tuesday morning I met with my Curves friends at the park and afterward I chatted with my sister as I walked the neighborhood around the park. It was a lovely cool morning.

    For the first full week of my Walktober challenge, I walked  82,370 steps for 32.77  miles. Yay! 🙌 🚶‍♀️

    A picture from my walk and today’s poem.

    October 9 - Nice morning walk with my daughter and Lucy. Later, while I was doing my lifting and Lucy was digging holes in the backyard, she came over to my improvised bench and started licking my face and ears. Her attack on my ears and earbuds managed to place a call on my phone. 😂 Fortunately, the call did not go through and I was told to check the number and try again.

    Here’s a picture of Lucy playing with her toy basket. It looks like a rope, you say. Well it is/was a rope basket. 😂

    And the poem for today.

    @77tes Your dog making a phone call?! That’s funny.

    Last weekend I aggravated a prior arm injury, so I skipped the arm workouts this week and focused on core, lower body and stretching.

    I’m a little late posting this. Loving all the poetry. Autumn is one of my favourite months of the year.

    image.png

    Another Autumn

    Mother Nature dons her cloak of vibrant amber hues.
    Fluttering leaves heap along the roads and avenues.
    They tempt my feet to shuffle through the crisply rustling mass.
    and stoop to scoop and toss the golden harvest as I pass.
    What joy to cast off adulthood, become a child once more,
    and recreate the pleasure felt so many years before.

    Oh @77tes I am laughing at your dog making a phone call. My cat loves to play on my phone also and I think would purchase things if I did not lock it.

    So 10 days in and I have only managed to provide and spread a little joy 1 time but I am sticking with it and looking for opportunities which I think is a win. I know it would be worse to "fake it" I mean we all know a lot of insincere folks like that so I am going with when it is real, then I take action.

    October 10 - Dancing counts! I didn’t take a morning walk to save my energy for dancing and that was a good plan. Got in plenty of steps. We met in a different room with a hard floor, so I was extra glad that saved my joints.

    A very good week walked every day sometimes twice a day but I think I pulled an abductor muscle in my groin area it’s been troublesome the past couple of weeks. I decided to be my own Dr and have been using ice and otc’s they suggested limiting activity but I am not sure I can do that.

    @snowshoe072 , hurrah for a great week of walking! 🙌 Boo! For that pulled muscle! 🥲 I hope it’s soon better with Dr. Snowshoe’s treatment.

    October 11 - Afternoon walk with Lucy and my daughter. Otherwise, I’m taking it easy. Here’s some pretty azaleas from a neighbor’s yard.

    Autumn on the Beaches

    by Sara Teasdale

    Not more blue at the dawn of the world,

    Not more virgin or more gay,

    Never in all the million years

    Was the sea happier than to-day.

    The sand was not more trackless then,

    Morning more stainless or more cold—

    Only the forest and the fields

    Know that the year is old.

    Returned last night from my fall getaway - what a ball we had reminiscing and sightseeing together. Did plenty of walking and made the best food choices I could while dining out. Today I unpacked and just took it easy. Tomorrow starts my return to weights and yoga!

    Just popping in. You know how they say not to pray for patience because everything will push your buttons. I think I must of wished for more free time because suddenly it seems like everyone needs something. Lol. Well, I am trying to keep my good habits, but I feel like I am on a greased pole and I am slipping with my good habits. Ugh. It should get better in the next couple of weeks, but not sure. It just seems like everything is hitting the fan. Ok, enough complaining. I will check in when I can. Keep up the good work. Love the poems and pictures.

    @hcoleman232 ,  hurrah for full range of motion ! That’s a major accomplishment ! 🤩And good walking, so true about youngsters playing sports or dancing - so cute !🥰

    @Michieb125 , so glad you had a great mini vacation ! Sounds like a total success ! 🥳

    @Learningmoments , remember to breathe and try for activity snacks in wild and busy times. Hugs! 🤗

    October 12 - Rest day, so just an easy, early morning walk.  Sunrise and a few autumnal haiku.

    IMG_4523.jpeg

    Matsuo Basho's Autumn Haiku Poems

    In the autumn night,

     Breaking into

    A pleasant chat.

    I stare at,

    Rarely seen in Edo,

    The moon in the mountain.

    The eyes of hawks

    Would be in the dark,

    The quai crys.

    I pull out the gray hairs,

    And under my pillow,

    There is a cricket.

    It’s great.

    Having an autumn lie-in.

    As the host.

    that was a lovely poem / haiku !

    Yesterday was Thanksgiving and I delegated the entire event to my retired husband and his son and fiancée so I could visit with my sister (she finds it overwhelming to come to gatherings). It was such a great way for me to see everyone I care for and I felt so supported and grateful to my family for making it happen.

    I also made a knock out snack that I think I will continue to make. It is a simple gluten-free almond banana muffin. Very freezable. 125 calories. Perfect and tasty and with great ingredients and moist. Happy to have that in my repertoire.

    Also made a batch of hummus and froze them into smaller containers. I just needed to make that time and now it’s all there, ready to go.

    hmmm… annoying that the haiku got squeezed together. I really can’t get the formatting right. There’s either way too much space or not enough.

    October 13 - Nice morning walk. It was cool and breezy. We’re expecting a storm tomorrow, so my park meet-up may get canceled. But I’ll worry about that tomorrow.  Here’s a picture of Lucy and a poem for Canadian Thanksgiving.

    IMG_1096.jpeg

    Thanksgiving by Malcolm Guite

    Thanksgiving starts with thanks for mere survival,

    Just to have made it through another year
    With everyone still breathing. But we share
    So much beyond the outer roads we travel;
    Our interweavings on a deeper level,
    The modes of life embodied souls can share,
    The unguessed blessings of our being here,
    The warp and weft that no one can unravel.

    So I give thanks for our deep coinherence
    Inwoven in the web of God’s own grace,
    Pulling us through the grave and gate of death.
    I thank him for the truth behind appearance,
    I thank him for his light in every face,
    I thank him for you all, with every breath.

  • 77tes
    77tes Posts: 9,619 Member

    the more I read the Thanksgiving poem, the more it reminds me of this group and our coinherence (I had to look that one up). 🥰

    October 14 - I was very brave today and took a walk in the rain, a thing Angelenos do NOT do. The water falling from the sky did not injure me seriously although I did get remarkably wet (it started pouring). That morning walk was pretty short, but I took another in the afternoon during a break of clear weather.

     Pictures of our two walks.  and today’s poem.

    IMG_4532.jpeg IMG_4534.jpeg

    Beyond the Red River by Thomas McGrath

    The birds have flown their summer skies to the south,

    And the flower-money is drying in the banks of bent grass

    Which the bumble bee has abandoned. We wait for a winter lion,

    Body of ice-crystals and sombrero of dead leaves.

    A month ago, from the salt engines of the sea,

    A machinery of early storms rolled toward the holiday houses

    Where summer still dozed in the pool-side chairs, sipping

    An aging whiskey of distances and departures.

    Now the long freight of autumn goes smoking out of the land.

    My possibles are all packed up, but still I do not leave.

    I am happy enough here, where Dakota drifts wild in the universe,

    Where the prairie is starting to shake in the surf of the winter dark.

    ahhh @77tes you got our needed rain i see. lovely poem.

    I have been managing to see beauty and provide complements the past week or so altho I did not keep track. It is hard sometimes to remember to "look" for the improvement or special so I will keep working on it. I do enjoy the way someones face lights up when you take the time to let them know you "noticed".

    Good to see everyone sharing their updates!
    My habits have been so discombobulated this past week! One, it’s been cold and rainy for the first time this season, and two it was my birthday yesterday. A saving grace is I did a hike in our state park on Saturday morning and then rested on Sunday….started Monday at the gym on the treadmill, and ended with 4 weight machines. I really loved my time there, and can see myself going 1-2 times a week in the colder months.
    I reserved a spot for a Les Mills Bodybalance class for tomorrow morning so that will take care of my yoga, Thai Chi and Pilates until Saturday. It helps to journal about actual physical activity to see I AM moving but I really want to get back to more “regular” walking soon.

    Can’t leave without saying I’m loving the photos and poems! And I need to share my charts and emojis before too long. Have a splendid evening all!

    A small very small amount of rain here today not enough to deter our walk more wind then anything.
    Finished my book now on to something else just not sure what yet. Dragged out the guitar twice this week and meditated each day.
    Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

    October 15- Nice walk this morning under clear skies.  I love L.A. after a rain. Clean air!
    After 2 full weeks in October, I’ve walked over 60 miles and 150,000 steps. 🙌

    Leaves by Sara Teasdale

    One by one, like leaves from a tree

    All my faiths have forsaken me;

    But the stars above my head

    Burn in white and delicate red,

    And beneath my feet the earth

    Brings the sturdy grass to birth.

    I who was content to be

    But a silken-singing tree,

    But a rustle of delight

    In the wistful heart of night—

    I have lost the leaves that knew

    Touch of rain and weight of dew.

    Blinded by a leafy crown

    I looked neither up nor down—

    But the little leaves that die

    Have left me room to see the sky;

    Now for the first time I know

    Stars above and earth below.

    October 16 - Nice morning walk , a bit later so not too chilly. A pretty bougainvillea on my walk.

    IMG_4542.jpeg

    Oh my goodness! I was so excited to find this poem which is from a set of books that were on the shelf when I was a kid. 😍

    Come Little Leaves by George Cooper

    “Come, little leaves," said the wind one day,

    "Come o'er the meadows with me and play;

    Put on your dresses of red and gold,

    For summer is gone and the days grow cold.”

    Soon as the leaves heard the wind's loud call,

    Down they came fluttering, one and all;

    Over the brown fields they danced and flew,

    singing the glad little songs they knew

    "Cricket, goodbye, we've been friends so long;

    Little brook, sing us your farewell song;

    Say you are sorry to see us go;

    Ah, you will miss us, right well we know.

    "Dear little lambs in your fleecy fold,

    Mother will keep you from harm and cold;

    fondly we watched you in vale and glade;

    Say, will you dream of our loving shade?"

    Dancing and whirling, the little leaves went;

    Winter had called them, and they were content;

    soon, fast asleep in their earthy beds,

    The snow laid a coverlid over their heads.
