Hello!

I am an older woman who wants to make sure that the quality of my life is maintained through healthy living. I am determined to be meaningfully engaged with my grandchildren for as long as possible.

    Hi, Brenda!

You don't say how "older". I'm 69, lost weight with MFP at 59-60, maintaining a healthy weight since. The good news is that weight loss is just as possible for us as we age, and the best tactics are about the same for us as they are for younger folks. There are lots of older people who've succeeded here.

In my experience, the quality of life improvement that can result is more than worth the effort it takes. I haven't had one second of regret in these ten years.

    Wishing you success!

    hi Brenda. Welcome to MFP!

I lost a significant amount of weight, starting at 56.

So many benefits, but, yes, one is being able to get on the ground and play with my three year old granddaughter.

I’m able to do things I never could have imagined as a much larger person.

I can go to the indoor playground and climb through it with her. Slide on the slides outdoors. Climb inside a blanket tent with her. Amaze her (and myself) by bouncing on her toddler sized Hippity Hop. Chase her on my hands and knees.

There’s many benefits to losing weight: health, more energy, getting off the sofa and outdoors to smell autumn, walking the dog to his very favorite coffee shop for a squirrel cookie. Happiness improves. Patience grows. I often find myself laughing at the silliest things.

If you commit to weight loss and pursuing better health, you’ll be amazed at all the new doors that open in your life.

I find myself looking at other people my age, feeling sorry that they don’t have the joy of movement that I now have. A lot of people my age are just….old. I’ve tried to evangelize, but people don’t want to hear it. I get it. That was me, obese and sedentary for decades.

But yes, sharing yourself with your grandkids, instead of hanging back in the sofa, feeling too ashamed and too bulky to participate in their early years is definitely one of the major benefits.

I started as a 22 or 24w. I can’t even remember which anymore. At the time it was devastating. Now, I don’t even care. That’s “Past Me”.

You’ve got an amazing and effective weight loss tool and a whole army of likeminded, been there done that users willing to help and share advice, all in the palm of your hand- if you’re willing to use it

I feel like those folks on Reddit. Ask me - us- anything! No question is too dumb. Bet I’ve already asked them myself. This community steps up when asked, but you gotta start, and you gotta ask.

Wow!! What an inspiration! New to MFP. Excited for the enthusiasm and encouragement. Just joined today. Have list 30 # with Noom, that was free through work. The subscription expired so hoping to continue the improved nutrition and fitness that I've started. No grandkids (yet) but will be out there bouncing and running when the time comes! Maybe I'll go bounce with the neighbor's grandson today!😆
