"It is also important to ask the pondering question "is it prudent for our environment and so much more to bring back many of the extinct animals from Dinosaurs to Dire Wolves etc" Always this should be part of the discussion along with the future of our planet and living things."

It seems like a simple "NO" to the above question, but humans cannot help themselves. Bob, you are possibly the "most interesting man in the world".

God bless Joanne. I am sure she has had enough already.

    Morning.

Bob, very interesting stuff about fossils and museum programs. I always loved the American Museum of Natural History in NYC where me dad would take me as a kid. IMHO, a lot of research and experimentation is guided by curiosity and pride, or by profit motives and greed, and not at all by prudence and wisdom. Then there's the age old arms race, founded on fear, desire for power and dominance—build a bigger club/spear/sword/gun/cannon/bomb/death-star/etc. Reflects the values of the society that breeds it. Then we find out too late we have a mess on our hands, and sometimes it all collapses in a heap and we have to start over.

My son and I once attended a session for prospective students of Mass Math & Sci Academy at a prestigious local college. At the end I asked if they covered the ethics of technology, especially human medical research. The professor had no idea what I was talking about, nor anyone else in the room….

Whew! Where did that come from on a weight watcher forum; must've been my evil twin.

Cloudy today, maybe showers, heavy rains coming tomorrow and into Friday. Not from Melissa either, so far she'll be out at sea not bothering us.

Got in a late, short hike yesterday as the sun was setting. It was dusk when I got back to my car. The woods and fields have such shades of rust and gold and maroon in late autumn, especially as the sky fades to pink and salmon light — so picturesque.

Haven't stepped on the scale since I got back from the wedding…

    Onward and downward.

    Good morning!

Bob, that is a fascinating discussion, and you sir, are a fascinating individual. Awesome stuff.

Sam, keeping you, Joanne, and DMIL in prayer, as with Charlotte's parents. You have your hands full.

I'm taking Connie to a new hospital this morning for a routine CT scan.

Cold and windy around here. We've gotten some good rain. We have not seen the sun in six days now. We might see it this afternoon, and for sure the next several days will be very nice.

My weight is stuck. My interval running has been going well. I'm taking a rest day today as I'm sore from the chiropractor yesterday, and for taking Connie for her test this morning.

    Have a great day!

    Good morning gentlemen.

It's raining, now, but the day should be mostly dry. I need to get the mower out to pick up all the cedar fronds the recent storm blew down.

    Good Morning

A soggy morning but we should be clear for a couple of days. We enjoyed the movie yesterday. We have nothing planned for the day, but I always have stuff to distract me.

Thanks for the kind words. I am glad the monsoon like rains have abated for a bit. I am thinking of mowing today too as my stitches were removed and wrist looks great now.

As an aside Roy Chapman Andrews who is thought to be the "real life model for Indiana Jones" was definitely a promoter with a large ego for the Museum of Natural History in New York. He convinced millionaires to help fund a trip to the Gobi Desert in Mongolia to search for early man. He staged his expedition from the environs of the Forbidden City area in Beijing. In 1921 this was the first motorized expedition. And yes there were forays with bandits. Camels were used to meet up with the vehicles out in the middle of nowhere with loads of gasoline. Soft hair/"fur" was plucked from the camels to help cradle the delicate fossils and they were returned to the staging area by camel train. Jones found dinosaurs and also dinosaur EGGS in places like the famous "Flaming Cliffs" in the Gobi. Really just totally luck and serendipity that I was to travel to the "Flaming Cliffs" and beyond. Luck indeed. I also stumbled across the venomous viper (the Gobi Pit Viper) which invaded by the hundreds into Roy Chapman Andrews camp site such that after killing buckets of them he moved his camp site. I believe this to be the model for Indiana Jones fear of snakes "why did it have to be snakes?" Just lucky for me. My DW wife took a pict. of the snake near me.

I loved visiting the Museum of Natural History and an older guide fondly remembered Malcolm McKenna the curator of vertebrate paleontology for nearly 40 years. I have met up with him at our annual "dinosaur dinner" and found him to be modest and quite a delight.

    Cheers and get better all!
