I wouldn't use MFP to log individual exercises, there are probably better apps out there to track those. But if you can't find what you need in the nearly 100 exercises (look under 'browse all'), you can also create your own (button at the bottom) .

If you're logging to simply track your exercise (and get a calorie estimate), you can find strength training under 'cardiovascular' exercise and log the entire duration of your strength training session, including rest between sets.

I have to admit, I only came here because I thought the title was “Library of Excuses” to Select”

Hang around these parts a while, and that would have been a terrifically refreshing thread to browse!

If you’re serious about weight loss, an investment in a fitness tracker is an investment in yourself.

My Apple Watch literally put me in the fast track to weight loss. It made the whole process a lot clearer, and, if you will, digestible.

It provided me exercise burns I felt confident with, and helped me correlate what I’d burnt versus what I’d logged as eaten. It posted the data direct to MFP, which made it easy for even a nutritional idiot like me to study and understand.

Apple Watches aren’t cheap, sadly. Neither is Garmin. However fitbits have an inexpensive entry point, although higher end models are available. These three are the easiest to sync with the app, from what I’ve read here.

You may be able to pick up used ones, or borrow one from a friend who made too many (dare I say) visits to the Library of Excuses and isn’t using theirs.

and btw, strength training typically isn’t a large burn.

I set my Apple Watch in “Functional Fitness” when I work with my trainer, and I’m having a good (extra tough) day when it goes over 200 in an hour. It’s slow, calculated movement, with rest periods, and time taken to load/unload equipment.

However, strength training has been amazing nonetheless for me, and will be for you, too. Stick with that one!

I usually log 100kcal for a barbell session. It might be a bit on the low side, or maybe it isn't. Weight training doesn't burn a ton of calories, also because you don't work out the whole time. And isolated exercises burn not a lot to start with because you're only moving a few muscles. But strength training is excellent for health. I log my weight sessions with strengthlevel.com.
