It's amazing what you can grow on a small allotment. Mine is only 70m2 and is literally the smallest on the entire site, but I still manage to feed us both with plenty to spare. I do buy a few veggies, especially in mid winter, but I haven't bought any fruit for 3 whole years.
Some of my fellow plot holders have plots 3 times larger than mine (and sometimes pay for 2 or 3 plots rather than just one plot) and they're very generous about giving away their surplus. I prefer to trade with things I've grown myself rather than just accept their largesse, but some folk grow just about every fruit and veg known to man, and they aren't interested in barter - they're just happy to offload their surplus to grateful recipients.
The main limiting factor is water - the site has no water supply of any kind so all we have is what we can collect in water butts or tote to the site in wheelbarrows. And given that Norfolk has a semi-arid climate and has less annual rainfall than Jerusalem the lack of water can have a real impact on yield.
Did a wrap for breakfast this morning, since I wasn't going to the office (hospital in AM, off afternoon, hiding from my MA'sπ). I had some leftover chunky salsa that I threw in my egg whites - very good albeit MESSY!
I've moved from grapefruit to apples for my fruit of choice for breakfast - got a good price at Sam's last weekend. Also found on vine tomatoes for $1.60 at Sams. Now I have to figure out how to use all of them before they go bad.
Looks like we're not liking breakfast any longer around here!
I'm finishing off my HEB brand coffee, hopefully Monday. Haven't been impressed with their 'Texas' flavors - too artificial. Picked up some Columbian from Kroger to try for next week.
I'm going to also see about getting some coffee from Aldi's - they have a decent selection.
I'm off to round at the hospital soon (and this weekend π‘). But, I ate breakfast in my office beforehand. My oatmeal and apple is much better than whatever the hospital made for breakfast - and sat out on a hot plate for a couple of hours!
I've been stocking up on nabob during the super kraft product coupon sales for my "budget" driver, though I do like kicking horse when someone sends me a package or five as gifts π Starbucks off Amazon for decaf because most others a bit watery. Would love to do Lavazza but my budget doesn't!πππ Will be trying some Costco beans and the mess of grinding them.... "soon"πππ
On some of the kraft points/coupon sales the nabob was like half price or lessβ¦so hard for me to not stock up!π€·ββοΈ Multiple varieties (Sumatra, Columbian, Summit, bold, Gastown, breakfast and I'm sure others...)
I had to read this twice and do some googling! Your Nabob is NOT an Indian mogul after all. Itβs Canadian coffee which is unknown and not sold in the US as far as I know.
OH NO! I figured that since Kraft has bought them out they would be universal! Do you guys do Kicking Horse? (they've also been bought out). Lavazza IS consistent I admit.
Yup - Kicking Horse and of course Lavazza are sold here. But definitely no Nabobs. π’
well⦠you've got the better stuff anyway! Nabob does not win over the other two on taste⦠only on price performance ratio ;-)
Yup, seen Kicking Horse, but too expensive for me. I've seen Lavazza as well, never tried it.
The Kroger Columbian is not bad, I'd get it again. I don't shop at Kroger a lot, but they do have a few things I can't seem to get from HEB.
If Lavazza within budget and you like the types on offer, then might be worth trying. They are the epitome of factory production. But at a very good base level. Imho and all that π just make sure you check the bold medium light etc levels and you're getting what you wsnt--they tend towards medium roasts in general
4 oz cherries, pitted and rough chopped, over 1/2 cup Greek yogurt with 1 tbsp of SF vanilla pudding mix blended in. Nice carb boost before my workout.
Hey you're supposed to be careful there ms q-tip π±π€π
My coffee filter broke this morning, going to be more like a cowboy coffee type of day! (Cowboys used to put their grinds in the cup, pour water over it and let them settle, then drink it. I think Turkish coffee is supposed to be that way to, from what I heard.)
I made 'anabolic' French toast this morning - day off from workout so had a lot of time before I had to leave for work (even slept in until 6am!) Egg whites with Splenda and cinnamon mixed in. Then soaked two slices of Natures Own Keto bread (35 calories a slice with 6gm protein). Paired it with two eggs and an apple. It was nice to enjoy breakfast outside watching the dogs play as I read and ate.
Interesting experience with coffee grounds when traveling through Poland many many years ago. Coffee was served with grounds at the bottom of the cup. The rule was to sip the coffee through your teeth filtering the grounds. The remaining grounds in the cup were mixed with sugar and eaten with a spoon. Coffee and dessert!
I was careful! It was leg/glute day, but all my exercises are done on machines, so core protective, and my little 1/4" wound was clean and covered.
And not straining at all.... Just like potentially my post surgery healing hernia was not straining at all while I was hiking up and down hillsππ
For the second surgery I went on level ground πππππ€£
It does sound like Turkish coffee.
I don't know if that's the Polish idea of a tiramisu.... But my imagination is failing to connect with it! π€£π€£π€£
Definitely not tiramisu! I had the Polish coffee experience back when it was a communist country. Coffee was very expensive and not to be wasted. So the leftover coffee grounds were liberally mixed with sugar -maybe topped with whipped cream. My cousins could not believe Americans always tossed perfectly good grounds into the trash. Iβm sure a lot has changed in Poland since then.
Went on a 2.5hr birding walk with my youngest who is home right now. Had a coffee with milk before, big bottle of water during. Now I am crushing 4oz cherries, 1oz blackberries, 2oz raspberries and 2.5oz strawberries, and a protein drink before hitting the gym for upper body day!
Holy Batwoman energy lady! Glad to see you enjoying yourself thoroughly! Did you spot any interesting birdies?
So many! Green heron, blue heron, teal wing duck, mallards, indigo bunting, cardinal, bluebird, barn swallow, tufted titmouse, red-tailed hawk, turkey vulture, broad winged hawk, nighthawk, geese (of course), downy woodpecker, golden wren. We also heard others that my daughter (wildlife conservation major and bird freak) identified via call.
Also, squirrels, a chipmunk, a skink (not positive the type), several different spiders, black carpenter ants, a butterfly and three differently patterned dragonflies! Also, mosquitos, gnats, three horses and a bunch of black cows, including a bull, lol.
Partridge in a pear tree?π€π§
Hey Google what's a skink?π€
Eeeeeeek!!!!!!π
Hey, I love the little lizards! I see them all the time at home - so many times I've walked out the front door to find one sunning itself on the porch or plantar. I run into them out walking a lot as well.
Almost stepped on one during my hiking vacay in April - he was asleep on the middle of the trail.
Yeah, I spotted this one because he ran across my foot, lol
Tried a new protein shake flavor from Premier Protein. Usually their stuff is pretty good. But the strawberry milkshake one I got is horrible - it HAS not flavor. There's just a bare hint of strawberry aftertaste.
I'm going to use it up, since I paid for it. I've been putting a drink powder packet into it to make it palatable. Guess I'll have to stick to chocolate and caramel from Premier if I get them again!
That sucks! Smoothie with either fresh or frozen fruit?
Some friends have me a jar of blackberry freezer jam of unknown sugar content π
Went on freezer hunt!πππ
Found a bag of wild blueberries that had been sitting there. Two shrivelled apples in the fridge. A couple of bags of frozen fresh cranberries that had been used for first aid ice packs!!!πππππ€―
Shoved it all in a pot---2500g--and splurged on 60 whole grams of extra sugar!!!π²
Immersion blender and the only pack of pectin I had π
Hey: it is actually tart but tasting really good. Has set but not to absolute solid in the fridge. But not really running of your toast either. More along let's say thick apple sauce consistency. So more than good enough!π
Now had I added some protein powder πΈπΈπΈπΈπ§
Travel day today. So coffee, gym (with energy drink), then a breakfast wrap: 1 egg and 2 whites with garlic chili sauce, toasted inside a low carb wrap with white cheddar cheese. Now more coffee at the airport.
Wher you going??? π€ Somewhere good?π
Portland!
Maine or Oregon? Enjoyed both at various times.
Vancouver? BC? Canada?
