In 2020, at the age of 69, I experienced cardiac arrest,. It was estimated my heart had been stopped for at least 21 minutes. EMT's came and got it going again. A week later I was heading home with 1 stent and seemingly no lose of memory, mobility or motor skills. went back to work for 1 year and was forced to retire because of my age. tough to retire after working since i was 12. Got lazy and sat around and ate all the wrong foods in all the wrong quantities. 3 years later diagnosed with melanoma on my upper arm, but surgery got it all. 1 year after that diagnosed with melanoma on the top of my head. A rather complicated surgery and skin graft for that but again, cancer all cut out. So, finally sat back and thought: How can I give up on myself after so many people helped me through all this? Answer: I can't.
7 weeks ago I sat down and calculated a sane plan to lose 66 pounds. 56 weeks of dieting, calorie counting, and exercise that a now 70 year old body could handle. I am happy to report that I have signed in to myfitnesspal for 53 days in a row. At the end of 7 weeks, I have lost 17 lbs. and am slightly ahead of my plan with 49 weeks to go. I have been doing resistance band training, calisthenics and treadmill or sitting elliptical 6 days a week. I have such a loooooong way to go, but know in my heart I can do this.
So, if you are wanting to quit what can be a rather arduous task, I understand. Before you do though, ask yourself: Do I really want to give up on myself?
