What's the saddest song you know?

The question is simple... what's the ONE song that always tugs at your heart?

For me - Alison Krauss - Jacob's Dream (true story about 2 boys who wandered off into the woods, only to die).

The song that always tugs at my heart is, "On Eagles' Wings". I love, love, love the song, but it's played at many funerals. Although it has an uplifting meaning, it still makes me teary eyed!
  • The Boy Who Blocked his Own Shot - Brand New

    OR

    Adam's Song - Blink 182

... I really like depressing music.

Tugs at my heartstrings, or just glurgerrific?

Because "Teddy Bear" by Red Sovine is pretty depressing. But it doesn't tug at my heartstrings.

  • If I die young-The Band Perry.
My friend's 17 year old daughter died this past July and every time I even think about the song I tear up.

Just about all of Karen Carpenter's songs, mainly "Goodbye To Love" though.

I remember when my oldest son was in 9th grade and he was into Blink 182. I got all freaked out when I heard him listening to Adam's Song! (I was a little overprotective at that time.....thought it would invade his mind and give him ideas)!

Right now it is "Lover, You Should Have Come Over" by Jeff Buckley. Tomorrow it might be different though. Jeff Buckley rips my heart out.

    I agree with you!
  • Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt
Keep Your Head Up - Ben Howard
Birdy's cover of Skinny Love (I love the original but it can't make me cry like Birdy does)
Fix You - Coldplay (more for sentimental reasons)
    A lot of Nirvana!
  • One that I listened to today is Landslide, I like the Smashing Pumpkins version and the Stevie Nicks version.
One that makes me cry is Perfect by Pink as I have a son with learning difficulties and I sing it to him, because he's perfect to me ;-)
