Rachmaninof's 2nd Piano Concerto particularly the first movement.
    Something more mainstream....
Bill Withers - Aint no Sunshine when shes gone tears me down. Becks Lost Cause too.

    Gilbert O'Sullivan's ALONE AGAIN NATURALLY

In a little while from now,
If I'm not feeling any less sour
I promised myself to treat myself
    And visit a nearby tower,
    And climbing to the top,
    Will throw myself off
In an effort to make it clear to who
Ever what it's like when your shattered
Left standing in the lurch, at a church
    Where people 're saying,
"My God that's tough, she stood him up!
    No point in us remaining.
    May as well go home."
As I did on my own,
    Alone again, naturally

    To think that only yesterday,
I was cheerful, bright and gay,
Looking forward to, but who wouldn't do,
The role I was about to play
But as if to knock me down,
    Reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch,
    Cut me into little pieces
    Leaving me to doubt,
All about God and His mercy
For if He really does exist
    Why did He desert me
    In my hour of need?
    I truly am indeed,
    Alone again, naturally

    It seems to me that
    There are more hearts
    Broken in the world
    That can't be mended
    Left unattended
What do we do? What do we do?

    (instrumental break)

Now looking back over the years,
And what ever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to have cried the tears
    And at sixty-five years old,
My mother, God rest her soul,
Couldn't understand, why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart
    So badly broken
    Despite encouragement from me
    No words were ever spoken
    And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
    Alone again, naturally
    Alone again, naturally

the theme song to mash, ever hear those lyrics?

The title of that song is Suicide is Painless

And in context of the movie, was played when the dentist, Dr. Painless, wanted to commit suicide, and they had a last suppoer for him.

That song just makes me laugh because of the brilliance and satire.

    Band of Gold -Freda Payne
    I'm sorry-John Denver

I'm sure there are others but those are the ones that come to mind first.

Speaks of loss, endlessness, and sweet release.

I have a problem picking just one sad song, clearly from my long list above. So, in the spirit of not following the rules, I'll add another: Someone Like You by Adele.

    Sad songs make me happy.

I love this song, but have thought it must be so sad if it happens to apply to someone.

Songs that tug at my heart:

John Mayer - Dreaming with a Broken Heart (my sis cheated on her husband last year and he was devastated! Make me sad to think a great man like him had to feels those things in the song)

Michael Buble - Home (makes me think of all our Soldiers overseas)
  • The Fray "To Save a Life" Ugh, gets me every time! So relate to it.

and Tim Mcgraw "Angry all the time"

"Alone Again (Naturally)" by Gilbert O'Sullivan. A guy is left at the altar, he considers suicide, then his father dies and his mother dies. Brutal. It really grabs me every time I hear it.

I'm going add the chorus of:

You and Me Against the World.-Helen Reddy

And when one of us is gone,
And one of us is left to carry on,
Then remembering will have to do,
Our memories alone will get us through
Think about the days of me and you,
Of you and me against the world.

Although in many ways the song is hopeful & affirmative of strength .

Also, someone mentioned Teddy Bear. I bawl every time i hear that one too.
