Does looking back at your old self motivate you?

I keep having flashbacks of how I used to eat emotionally in front of the TV/Computer and how I relied on smoking/drinking for happiness.... trips to taco del taco every Tuesday and Thursday to binge on their 39 cent tacos... pathetic attempts to hit on girls who were obviously disgusted with my fat body and the smell of alcohol/cigarettes... every time these memories come up I feel disgusted at how pathetic I was and its motivating me to continue on with my running and losing weight - is this healthy? Or should I just try to forget who I was and look to the person I will become?

Anything that motivates you is worth using to your advantage. I HATE old pictures of me, but it's motivation for me to keep moving forward.

Yes, but for me it is reversed. I was always thin and now I am 50+ pounds overweight. That reality and the road I have ahead of me to change it is very overwhelming! Looking back at pics of me from the very recent past helps me to know that it is possible to be that person again!!!

Use what ever drives you forward.

I just posted some new photos of myself here today - one showing myself at my heaviest and one from a week ago which made me realise just how far I have come.

I don't like how I used to look and feel but am loving how I look and feel now. I still have more to lose so I keep reminding myself of where I have come from and how I will feel when I reach my goals.

I think that is a great motivator. Remembering who you DON'T want to be will lead to thinking about who you DO want to be  I am in a place of both actually. I used to be much lighter when I first got married, BUT I had to lose weight to look that way. My first goal right now is to get back to that weight but then I want to lose another 50 after that. Our past is a great motivator, as long as it is used that way and not as a way to depress us.
