I have been a runner for a long time. I ran all through high school and college, and have had a lot of success along the way. However, I never ran a road race in my life up until I ran a half marathon 2 weeks ago with my fiance. Her and I trained for 13 weeks for the marathon, and the plan was for me to run with her to motivate her and push her. Her goal was to break 2 hours for the 13.1 miles, which is 9 minutes per mile. A few weeks before the race we ran 13.1 miles by ourselves as our long run for the week. We did that in 2 hours and 2 minutes. So needless to say, she was extremely happy and I knew that she was easily going to reach her goal of breaking 2 hours. During the race she didn't wear a watch so she wouldn't know her time, but at the 1st mile there was a clock and we passed the first mile somewhere around 7:45. I was a little upset with myself because I didn't want to go out to fast and have her dead in the last few miles. But, over the next 6 miles she kept that pace. I asked her over and over again how she felt and if the pace was fine, and she kept saying she was good. As the race came to a close I knew she was going to run a really good time, and she ended up finishing in 1 hour and 43 minutes!!! I was, and still am, so proud of her for putting in the work and then making it happen on race day. So whereas I was there to motivate her, she was the one motivating me. Now, we have planned to do a full marathon and I'm looking forward to it. She is my motivation and I hope that I can make her proud the same way she did for me.
