Most likely water retention. You are not going to gain 2 lbs of fat over night. I jumped up 3 lbs from Sunday to Monday but lost it again. Make sure you drink a lot of water and flush your system.

Agreed, probably water weigh. DO NOT stop drinking water though, it'll help you for sure in the long run.

Don't worry about it... it'll even out over the next few days... keep going (and keep drinking heaps of water!)

Water actually helps bloating, flushes out your system.
You fluctuate throughout the day, you fluctuate day to day. Don't stress too much

Most likely water weight. I have seen spikes like that when my water intake has been low for a couple days. Can be a lot of other triggers too, like poor sleep, too much sleep, salt, where and how you stand on the scale. Weight can shift according to my diet doctor as much as 7lbs during the day. :ohwell:

After a hard workout where I'm sore the next day, I can be up a few pounds until the water retention subsides

unless you've eaten 7000calories over your MAINTENANCE, you have not gained 2lbs.

:) fluctuation, you will get more precise weights if you weigh in once a week instead.

The following advice can be followed or ignored at your leisure...

First of all, don't be a scale Nazi. Pick one day a week to weigh yourself. Weigh yourself at around the same time of day. My weigh ins are first thing Monday morning, right after I wake up and use the restroom. My wife weighs herself on Friday mornings.

You should be drinking water pretty regularly, especially if you are on a daily exercise routine. Don't fret if you get a week of no losses. Weight is a horrible way to measure your health. Take your measurements every few weeks or so. Find a body fat calculator and plug in your measurements. Keep track of this when you take your measurements.

Some people will argue that the best method is water tank (or calipers if you don't have that). It may not be as exact, but using the same height/neck/waist/hips bodyfat calculator will be consistent. You will be able to track about how much fat you lose. I have lost ten pounds, but my lean body mass has gone up four, that means I have actually lost 14 pounds of fat this month. Yay! This is the calculator I use. I was first subject to it during my Marine Corps service:

    http://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy

Supposedly it is pretty accurate (within 1-3%) for the majority of the population and the price is right. I see no need to buy calipers at this point in my routine.

You should find another method of rating your progress (preferably one a heroin junkie will not be able to do better than you). For me, it is my run time for a 2.1 mile loop that I have been walking and jogging for years. I also have a 4.35 mile loop I run. My best times so far are 17 and 40 minutes.

Pay attention to your calorie intake versus what you burn. Don't be afraid to splurge one day a week, as long as you break even or are under overall with your weekly calories.

I hope that helps. I have had 5 weigh-ins so far. Four of them were 2-3 pound losses and one was a 0.2 pound gain. It just happens sometimes. The lesson to take is not to let it dishearten you. Giving up because you gain weight is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
