Finally made the commitment (hopefully)

Hello,
I was introduced to the myfitnesspal by an fellow design friend and at first I was really into it, but as time went by I was on and off with watching my calories. A couple of nights ago I was going through some of the success stories and felt more and more disgusted with myself. I decided to take pictures to see what I really looked like...cause mirrors like to lie to me. When I put all the pictures together, I cried. I have always been overweight even in my childhood, but to see myself and what I look like today, 205 lbs and unhappy, I just couldn't take it. I'm halfway through of my senior year of college and my goal is to look BETTER than I do for graduation which is in 6-7 months....I'm trying to be serious with this but its difficult. If anybody has tips or suggestions or stories like mine they would like to share, I would love to hear it! Its hard being apart of a heavy family and none of mine really care enough to motivate me nonetheless motivate themselves. Hopefully I find support here! Would love to hear from anybody!

Welcome back, chica! Good for you for coming back, you're on your way already! I have a few tips:
1) Get really involved here. Join groups, post on forums. Make a ton of friends so you have a big support network. (feel free to friend me!)
2) Spend more time with the in-person friends you have that make being healthy a priority.
3) Set a reasonable, concrete goal (say, 6 months * 4 weeks * 1 lb/week = lose 24 lbs by graduation).

Hey - you can do it! You have made the first step which is the hardest. Have a bit more confidence in yourself though. Take the hopefully out of the topic title and take control. You HAVE made the commitment, you ARE going to do this! And the support here on this site is fanastic. Plenty of people of all ages, sizes and with different goals all making their lives better - what could be more motivating.0

My suggestion(from my experience) is to focus on switching to a better lifestyle. Eat clean. Exercise as often as you can. Do whatever you think you can do for the rest of your life. The weight loss will happen. Positively Rely on the mirror more than you rely on the weighing scale.
I know that these might seem like random statements to you...but believe me, it will make you happier than you will ever imagine Add me if you feel like you could use some randomness like this post!!0 -
"Made the commitment (hopefully)" ? That's not really a commitment, is it? But I understand. I've been losing the same few pounds over and over again for the past 8-10 years and really wasn't sure if I could do more. But I have and I'm keeping on going!
Don't worry about anyone else motivating you - it's all about you! You're the one who makes those daily decisions of what food to buy, prepare, eat and what exercise to do (or not).
Just start by doing a week of logging all your food accurately. And maybe trying to fit in a short walk everyday (or something). And see how that goes. Then do it for a another week. Up your water and fruit and veg. Do a little more walking (or whatever). Then the next week... slowly you'll see the progress.

PS - DO NOT beat yourself up - now or ever! It really doesn't help your motivation, will power, state of mind etc. Stop those thoughts dead and focus on the good stuff about yourself.0 -

DEFINITELY find some weight-loss friends! That has been the hardest part for me, and what has made me fall off the wagon quite a few times. My will power is close to NONE, so if i'm around people who want to eat, drink and do whatever, I tend to join in. Friend people on here (feel free to add me!), talk to them regularly, be active in the forums, maybe find a face-to-face friend to do this with, etc.

First, take the word "hopefully" out of your statement...you're giving yourself an out. Tell yourself you HAVE made the commitment. You can do this!0
