I have been using the Calorie Counter app on the iPhone for almost a year now and it has helped me lose 50 lbs since Spring. I have a new goal to put on some muscle.

I am not sure how much I should expect to gain in three months. I thought 20 lbs sounded good, but maybe that is optimistic? But Since I am not very knowledgeable about lifting weights and putting on muscle I want to build a little local network to share tips and keep each other motivated. I work out at the Free Methodist Church in Rushville, it is free, you just have to sign up. I have also been lifting at home. If you want, add me, I could use some advice about how much protein I need to be eating. The protein info on the app isn't very good, I might have to start tracking it manually every day till I get a feel for a good amount.

So if you don't live too far away, and want to workout or chat about fitness related stuff, please add me.

    Here's an interesting response: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080723065454AAHzde4

"...go for lifting heavy weights for low reps. If you've not exercised then I'd suggest a run in period that will get your body toned and ready as well as get your nutrition on track and time set aside in your life.

You can gain 5-6lb of lean muscle a month, though sometimes newcomers gain faster at first."
  • Hi there and well done for loosing that much.....im finding that zumba really helps with toning and building muscle if you not done anything before and you can do it at home.
feel free to add me although i do live in newmarket so not close lol

Thanks Aegelis, that at least tells me that my goal isn't too outrageous. Since I am not a "skinny guy" I don't know if I should follow that sort of workout, but it is good to know I am not setting the bar too high.

Sent you an add Suzan, thanks. I do need some local support but I welcome all the help I can get. :)

Your post is inspirational, I know I should gain muscle and it gave me the incentive to look up the information.
