Today, I went to the vitamin shoppe, and this lady was telling me about protein shakes & about how they can help you lose weight. So I bought Gold Standard 100% Whey, I didnt mix it with milk, instead I used water. It has a total of 2g Carbohydrates in it & so I said what they heck why not try it! Has anyone else had any success with this product or any other protein shakes?

Protein shakes are great for upping your protein intake and keeping you satiated, but they aren't any sort of magic drink - you have to be sure to fit the calories into your daily allotment. They are convenient though - I like blending them with almond milk and fresh fruit/veggies for smoothie, or mixing it into oatmeal - tastes better than just downed with water, in my opinion.0

I love Gold Standard 100% Whey!
I only use it after weights. I don't use it as a meal replacement. I agree that protein satiates you for hours but I'd rather eat a can of tuna or 6 boiled egg whites for that.0 -
Thanks everyone!

Quoted for absolute truth!
also use gold standard. only as a supp after workouts.
I rate the strawberry flavour if you only use water with it, or chocolate if you use skim milk. either way, it doesnt take up too much of your calories.
Mostly though, i try and get all my protein from whole foods. which for me is not hard, lol. love eating meat.0 -
From my experience with protein shakes. They are best for replacing 1 meal, say lunch for example and good for an after workout snack, to help aid all the good work you have done at the gym or in your workout.
I must say though, make sure you are getting all your proper nutrients from actual food though. As, as a women, you could find yourself lacking in iron, which can cause dizziness, fatigue and other problems. So, I would recommend, if you aren't getting enough essential nutrients out of your food, that you should look at a multi-vitamin.
And to anyone with thyroid problems, I would most definitely recommend an iron supplement with added vitamin C. As, I personally was using Protein Shakes to replace 2 meals a day and I have an under-active thyroid and I became rather anemic. And I also suffer from vertigo, with my thyroid issues. So when my iron starting lacking, I got unbearable vertigo. And so I learnt, the lack of iron was the cause.0 -
protein shakes are no good, the majority of protein ur body takes in is digested. the thing ur body really needs to build muscle are carbs. when working and getting fatigued ur body will first use up the carbs in ur system, next the fat, and lastly the protein. if it does get to the protein it actually draws it from ur muscles which in turn will actually make u weaker. also the best way to get protein is from real food. the best thing to do for a post workout drink is chocolate milk. it help replenish 9 essential nutrients such as protein and carbs, it also helps replace fluids and electrolytes. its also 90% water so u will be getting plenty of fluid. i work out hard 5 days a week doing heavy lifting, I've never used protein shakes or any other type of supplements, i just have a good diet, and it works well0
