I am NOT under my calorie goal !

I really appreciate the MFP tool, and I find it easy to use, mostly convenient and manageable.

What works for me, is that I do not log 'everything' I eat. For example, if I make a dish, I will log the main protein and carbs, but generally I won't go through and add a recipe and include the oils, vegies, spices etc. Sometimes I will ignore the spreads or the diet soda etc. However, mostly, I do ensure there is a decent 'buffer' in my calorie consumption to allow for this (there are those days I get a little too close).

As a lifestyle change, I am okay with how this works for me - and so far, so good. It also allows me a chance to tighten up a little if I am not seeing results.

But oh boy, every time I log, I do hate how it claims that I am "under my calorie goal" on my message board. I fully believe that you should consume your calories for the day in full! I do wish I could turn this comment off. Does anybody feel the same?

I have learned the hard way that I need to log everything accurately because I suck at estimating. :) I was actually eating maintenance when I thought I was eating at a deficit because of estimations and small omissions. I do try to get as close to my goal as possible though, so I'm with you there. :)
  • I agree, estimating is a risk - will monitor and see if I can manage my deficit... Cheers!
  • I hate it when i'm just over my calorie goal. I try and eat to just under it - just to get the comment that I am under the calorie goal!

If you are not recording the oils in a recipe, don't worry you are probably not eating under your calorie goal. Those oils and salad dressings and mayonnaise are diet killers. Egads, i thought I was doing so good eating a salad. Boy, did I have to rethink that one.

You might lose at first, but if you're not tracking every, single thing, you're not going to keep losing. Some things will shock you and you have no idea what you're consuming.

I don't think it should be turned off because there are too many people on MFP that need to read it. Maybe it'll help them get it through their heads that they need to eat in order to lose weight and be healthy :\
  • I agree with you all, will be a learning curvebwhich ever way I go.

    You can turn it off.

Go to your home page, Settings, Automatic News feed settings, and uncheck the Completed Diary button.

I dislike it also, especially when someone is already at a 1200 calorie goal.

You could also do a "quick add" of some extra calories based on what you have left to make up for any under estimates.
  • Great tips, thanks
