my diet has improved greatly, i know i slip up from time to time so don't judge my diary if you look at it. just trust that i am eating a LOT better.
i also drink a LOT of water, i always have, thats why i don't always log it.
i think my sugar intake has increased a lot...from fruit
can this be a culprit? i am so upset if it is, healthy eating is overrated if it is the fruit

I'm not sure what is in your diet to blame ( I didn't look at your diary, because I don't think its relevant) My dermatologist told me as long as you drink enough water, and don't waaaay overeat the junk, your diet really doesn't make a difference. It might be the heat, it might be a product, or make-up, or soap, you're using on your face? My skin is super oily, so I need to wash my face2-3 times a day. If your skin is like this too you should probably get something that is specifically face wash ( I really like Biore) because all the alcohol in soap with dry out and irritate your skin, which will like cause it to break out more.

    Hope this helps :)

I've been replacing some of my fruit with 'sweet' veggies. I swear carrots are my weakness. So crunchy and no pit or peel... *sigh* just love 'em.

I don't think your diet has much to do with it.

But I have been taking L-lyosine and that seems to be helping me. It is for skin health.

    Good luck. :drinker:

Well, I started having skin problems as I started losing weight. I finally caved and went to a dermatologist a few months back but found that that wasn't helping after I bought the proper mineral make-up from her, an expensive skin care regime, several chemical peels & laser treaments, and even antibiotics. Nothing seemed to make a big difference. So, I decided to just stick with a normal facewash, going to be trying out Proactive soon, and trying to stop being so stressed! Well, my skin seems to have improved greatly after getting off all the meds and I think that is in part due to the fresh sunlight of summer. Now, I still have some problems so I've been doing some research online about your diet and skin problems. I read that milk and skim milk in particular can be bad for the skin because of the amounts of hormones. I have a diet largely weighted on skim milk based yogurts, I'm a complete yogurt addict! So, I'm just beginning an experiment where I'm stepping away from the yogurt for a while as well as too many fatty nuts & peanut butter. I'll let you know how it goes! I also read that if any of your vitamins have too much iodine this can be a contributing factor. Also, make sure you are taking off your make-up before the gym & get some fresh sunlight on your face from time to time!

I've always struggled with break-outs and proactiv works best for me-better than the dermatologist. The research that I've read says that diet doesn't make much of a difference; I will try the lysine like someone suggested. Good luck.
  • I think it's probably hormone imbalance. Your body is going through changes due to weight loss and I'm sure that causes a whole whack of side effects. As everyone has mentioned, sticking to a healthy lifestyle and cleansing regimen will definitely help. Bouncing from one product to another is not recommended nor is over washing your face. I would recommend you find a product you like and stick with it for a while until maybe you reach your goal and give your body a chance to adjust. I'm hoping this will work because it's the plan I'm sticking too.

Proactiv is a GOD SEND! I  that stuff SOOO much. It totally works. My face went apesh*t when I got divorced because I was stressed out and Proactiv totally cleared it up.

I got SOOOO many compliments on how amazing my skin looked from all the make up artists I was working with when I was doing hairshows.

I've also found that products with retinol A works great for my zits as well especially on the cystic deep zits that I get.

I have never heard of a connection between sugar intake and breaking out but it could be a multitude of things! Don't be mad at fruit!

I never break out and I use Nutrogena blackhead scrub everyday in the shower :)
Also try a strong astringent right before bed.

I break out and have sensitive skin - I found the solution here: www.acne.org
It seems like some weird scam site to sell you something, but turns out it isn't - if you watch the video and do that, you just need mild soap and benzoyl peroxide...I've cleared up completely over the year. Before I had painful pimples on my cheeks and forehead :(

I think sugar from fruit is different than refined sugar when it comes to gaining weight/how it affects your body. My sugar is always over from eating fruit but I'm still losing and feeling well.

I like Burt's Bees Peach & Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub. I get breakouts when I get stressed, and this stuff has by far been the best so far for me...including Proactive (which is GREAT stuff but just didn't do the trick last time I used it). Burt's Bees is a bit pricey, but worth it!! Also, if you have access to the ocean, salt water does wonders for your face. Oh, and witch hazel. We used to rub it on our faces at night with cottonballs when I was in Iraq. Every other night or so, because I'm sure it can dry out your face too

different things work for different people

i love that everyone straight away attacked products and make-up, cause usually, in a lot of situations they can be to blame. but i guess i shoulda added that to my original post. i use spectro jel, if i use ANYTHING else, i break out.

i haven't broken out like this in a long time. so it has to be my diet, or my weight loss, though i haven't lost a lot of weight. i assumed sugar can make you break out because i know chocolate can, it isn't just a myth. nutrition directly effects the quality of your skin, though i don't know what part of it makes you break out, so i assumed sugar.

i just hope it clears up. maybe i will try proactiv. that is my only other option, no other skin care stuff works, they are way too harsh, even 'for sensitive skin', spectro jel is way bomb and i was blessed when i found it. if anyone is looking for a great product, you should try it out.

thanks for all the helpful advice though, i will look into some of these products...just in case. maybe match the ingredients up with spectro.

I've worked for three reputable skincare/cosmetic companies and we know that hormones change in your early 20's. I also have first hand experience with this...when I was 22, my skin went crazy and I'd never really had problems before. You have to find what works for you. Products with salicylic acid work great for most people. Also, make sure you wash your face before and after you workout. And foundation is actually good to wear (not when you workout) because it creates a barrier between your skin and the environment. There are some great foundations that actually fight acne too. Good luck and hope it gets better!

    I found this on www.acne.com

"There is recent work from Australia that suggests that high carbohydrate foods may in some people flare their acne. The theory is that chronic consumption of high carbs stimulates the excessive production of insulin so that eventually more and more insulin is needed to assist glucose into cells. This is called insulin resistance. The higher insulin may drive the ovaries to produce more testosterone which in turn encourages acne. This may be what is happening partly in a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome. "

as we all know a fruit is a carbohydrate! Maybe that could be it?

What was your diet like BEFORE you started trying to lose weight? If it was really bad ( a lot of processed, chemically enhanced stuff) this could just be your body releasing left over toxins its stored from the food, seeing as a lot of the crap is fat soluble. (Meaning it sticks around long after the foods gone) Your body might be releasing all those toxins, causing break outs. If you feel that might be the case, keep drinking the water baby! I know you said you drink a lot so keep it up and hopefully they'll clear out sooner as oppose to later:tongue:

    i hope it clears out

i like the carb theory. but im just gonna keep eating healtheir, ill just have to be really really careful with my face and not touch it ever when i work out as well, i can be known to wipe sweat off with my tshirt....it feels good!

my diet before was SO bad, i would wake up, see if there were any leftovers in the fridge, like say, pasta, and eat that with some garlic bread, i may take a nap depending on how my day was scheduled, or i would get ready to go to school, get there and buy some kfc with fries or wendys or a sub with lots of mayo and lots of secret sauce, buy a bag of chips for th ebus ride home, get home and have a snack and it had to be junky, whatever was lying around, cookies, chips, etc, then have some dinner, my boyfriend would get off work, pick me up, then we'd go out for a bite to eat where i would probably order fries or calamari and two pints of beer. if we went to my friends bar he would make me his special cookie desert. then i would get home and i might have a couple of crackers with peanut butter before i got to bed.

it was disgusting. i always had food in my mouth. always.
